Chapter 1: Chapter 1 (Short prologue)
Nevaya's POV
I'll never forget the night I heard banging and screaming coming from the first floor. I remember getting out of bed and running down the stairs to find my mother laying on the kitchen floor. My father was standing over her yelling and screaming saying things so fast and mixed as if he was drunk, which he was. He had hit her till she was black and blue and covered in cuts from the broken glass surrounding her on the ground.
I was frozen at the bottom of the stairs, but I screamed at my dad and begged him to stop. After the realization of me being there, my father turned to me. I watched as he walked towards me, but I was still frozen and couldn't move an inch. He grabbed my neck and lifted me off the ground. He dug his nails into my throat causing me to bleed all while I was struggling to breathe. I started kicking and screaming, but it got really hard and my body just shut down.
I suddenly saw a glimpse of blue and red lights outside before he dropped me to the ground. I saw the door open before my eyes shut. After a few weeks I started to wake up and heard someone say "happy ninth birthday Nev." But when I opened my eyes, I was in an empty hospital room. The only people to call me Nev were people who'd known me since I was really little and most of those people had died or didn't contact us anymore.
