Chapter 4: Chapter 4 - Believe in Me
Sitting there in his furnished office, Juni Cartel rummaged through the memories of his life like he was about to die.he was the only son of a once happy Christian home, a home which became broken the moment his dad left to follow his dreams of becoming a musician and never looked back or came back until the day he died. Juni remembered how sober he was that day and didn't shed a single tear which in contrast to him, his mother has cried a bucketful, she even got sick for days with no one to care of her, her 10year old son took on the responsibility of being the man of the house until he got married to the love of his life and registered his aging mother in an old nursing home.
His thoughts were cut off rudely by the thrill of a call which blasted from his phone which he tried to take on time but failed to until the sound disrupted his brain the second time, he picked immediately he saw "Hope's old peoples home". "hello, mr cartel ..hello?" a voice asked through the phone. "hello?" he replied almost immediately "Juni , its your mom" the person who he now knew to be his childhood friend whom even carmen had gotten jealous of how close she was to the family said solemnly.
"What's wrong? Is she okay?" Juni asked sitting upright thinking something bad and needed urgent attention happened ."No, no" she quickly replied to calm him down before adding "its her birthday ,you know.. she's refusing food and medications claiming she won't take them without you" ,he sighed in relief and sat back in his chair but replied irritated "so what? make her take it, isn't that your job? That's what I pay for ,isn't it? "
" Don't be ridiculous , Juni ,its her birthday, Its only normal only for you to be here ,you know?" Vee reprimanded him. .he sighed again and rubbed his forehead "sorry Vee ,I have just had a really bad day, I will be there soon". Its fine, I understand ,just curb your quick temper sometimes so it doesn't ruin things for you ,oh and bring Carmen too" she replied and cautioned him
"I get it already , Vee" he chuckled and then added referring to her last request "Do you really want carmen's trouble?" they both chuckled over the phone and the phone call was over.
He texted a quick message about the plans to his wife whom he was sure she would agree to immediately because she didn't like him being alone in the same place with Vee , and sure enough, there he was proven right when he received a message from here which read "Okay babe, pick up at 5pm,How was your day? great I assume(with a smiling emoji)"
He sighed ,he hadn't told her about the promotion yet ,after all, she had been his biggest supporter but also the person he neglected most for work which is what right now, he will have to do all over again.
"Hey boss,Clara sent over some files,do you want to.go over them first?" Mark popped in through the door ,"nah , nevermind,we already know what it's about,just go over it and give me the specifics,make the necessary calls and give me good feedbacks,okay Beyonce?"
"Ofcourse,you got it ,boss "Mark replied with a wide grin on his face and continued "and boss?'…Juni raised one of his eyebrows questionly waiting for Mark to continue "You can do this!" ,he felt his lips stretch into the most sincere smile ever as he sat up in his chair "What's my next Important schedule?"he asked
"Meeting with the top writers by 2pm and -" Mark tied to continue but was cut off by his boss, "Nope,take the last one out"he raised a finger indicating he didn't want questions as he continued "Input Mom's birthday dinner by 5pm,notify me by 4pm though even if I'm still in a meeting, alright Beyonce?"
"Sure,Mr Cartel"Mark replied and headed back to his position closing the door silently behind him.
Juni checked the time on his watch which read "1:34pm" yup he better start getting ready for the meeting,he stated to himself as took out some documents to choose from.
The meeting took him exactly just an hour to get the top writers to renew their contract as he was the best smooth talker which made him the best deal pitcher.He was back in his office by 2:14pm and he instructed Mark to bring him the specific details of his competition.
Not even the name,nor the person's personality or age shocked him as much as the duration of which was given.How the hell would he sign Angela Mandela author of "Purple Rose" which was the best selling romance novel in UK and is still one of the best in just 2weeks?."wow" he breathed out while Mark just stood there without talking as he already knew what caused the look of suprise on his boss's face. But the only thing that seemed to have suprised Mark was how long his Boss kept looking over the file,it was not that he doesn't do that but this was taking longer which spelled it out to the ever loyal secretary that this was not just any deal that Juni Cartel can talk himself into.
Finally,after lots of pauses and notes down here and there,contacts to call to finally get a hold of the author,Mark scheduled a 9am meeting for Juni with Angela at the Palms Hotel.
Juni left the office in a sober mood and drove more slowly than he would have liked to his house,he wasn't really ready to face her yet.
"Hey baby"Carmen said as she got into the car and gave him a quick kiss on the lips while adding "Derek is gonna have a sleepover at his friend's house,I already took him there so when we we are back from your mom's ,we could have some time for us"winking at him
He didn't really respond much to her as he gave her a smile with a little really of "Great and hopefully babe, hopefully" after what you hear what I want to say,you probably wouldn't think this anymore,The 31year old man thought to himself as he drove out of the driveway .
