Chapter 1: The Alpha
Zero's POV
I was endlessly trotting around the forest, taking in the birds and the different types of the large beautiful trees. I was looking for Mint, my alpha, to discuss matters that weren't very important to the rest of the pack. The wolves I saw while I was passing by were chatting among themselves, while the pups were playing in the vibrant red, orange, and yellow autumn leaves. I still didn't see my alpha. Usually I would see her with Reed, the auburn coloured wolf that was her mate. The wolves who weren't chatting were preparing a larger den for the alphas and soon their pups. I finally saw a tuft of light green fur peeking out from behind a willow tree. I turned the corner, and I saw Mint with her head tilted towards the blue sky with her eyes closed.
"Hey Mint." I said, while sitting down. She opened her slate grey eyes. She turned to face me.
"Why hello there Zero." Mint smiled. Her canine teeth stuck out in her slight grin.
I cleared my throat. "The wildlands. There is very little prey these days." I sighed.
She sighed also. "Right. What was the daily survey of moose and caribou?"
"Well..." I said while trying to remember. "12 moose and 14 caribou."
Mint nodded. "Alright. The numbers keep getting lower and lower. We might have to move with the last herds."
"I understand. I can go talk to Eden about surveying the wildlands again tonight." I assured her.
We finished the conversation, and went our separate ways. I went to find my best friend Eden, at our wooden den. Eden is a petite cinnamon coloured wolf that has malachite coloured eyes. We've been friends since we were very young.
I opened the dark wooden door to our den. I saw the small wolf laying on his bed. He looked up into my dark blue eyes. "Heyo Zero. What's up?"
"Will you come with me to survey the moose and caribou tonight?"
He nodded. "Of course."
