Chapter 3: Ch. 3: The Emperor’s Illness

"So the doctor has come, have they been properly taken care of?" The Empress asked the servant who held a tray of tea. "Yes empress, the doctor was taken to the doctor courtyard." The servant answers. "Good, the Emperor will hopefully be cured; and if not, that doctor will be killed." She says as General Obi enters the throne room. "General, you're still here. I'm glad you made it back with the doctor. How's my husband?" She asks. "Not doing so well, tomorrow the doctor will be taken to his bedside. I sure do hope that one more day doesn't hurt." He says.

"It's just as well, there were a few rumors going around that our doctor is a female. She also didn't seem like she wanted to be here either." She points out. Seems rumors travel fast; never underestimate rumor chain mails. He'd bet his life that this was all Marie's fault, that stupid maid they met at the entrance she never could keep her mouth shut."I do admit she looked rather upset about being here, but I assure you she will do her job." He says.

"Let's hope for your sake she does, since it was you who mentioned her in the first place. Speaking of how did you here about this mysterious doctor that not a single soul knew of?" The Empress asks him. He was at a loss for words as her piercing gaze bored deep into his skin, there was no way he'd admit that he heard it from that crazy coot from the Han Family. "You won't say? Doesn't matter, just make sure that doctor does her job." She says.

The sound of the door behind him opening drew their attention, "there's no need to force me, I'll cure the Emperor." Kila enters the throne room and crosses her arms defiantly. "Oh, is this the doctor you spoke of? She's quite rude and lacking in manners. Also she looks pretty young, are you saying I should put the Emperor's life in this girl's hands?" The Empress stands and walks towards Kila. Her gaze were pratically throwing daggers in her direction, but there was no way she'd tremble. "What's your name, girl?" The Empress asks lifting her chin.

Kila steps back and shoots her own glares, "Empress or not there is no need to respect you. I lack manners because I don't live in the empire. I will cure him and then I will leave." She says. The Empress stares at her for a while, it was to the point that Kila felt that she will probably be punished for it. But her thoughts were immediately dashed away once the Empress burst into laughter, "you girl are quite brave, I'll let you live. For now. Perhaps once you cure the Emperor I'll be sure to send you off with a few treasures, Hm? What do you say to that?" The Empress asks.

Kila wanted nothing to do with payment for being a doctor, but she highly doubt she should turn the Empress down, "fine, I'll accept your payment." She says. "Come this way, the General and I will show you to the Emperor's room." The Empress says turning away from her and then heading to the door positioned to the east of the throne. Kila follows closely behind them, there was no way she could seriously not cure a person, it just wasn't in her nature. Besides after this, she could leave it all behind again.

Her heart begins to pound as a memory flashes in her mind....

"She's that new female doctor right? Haha I hear she's no where near good at medicine. Also she lacks any mana. What a joke."

The shadows of a memory that was buried deep inside her mind, if only she hadn't stepped foot into the Yan Empire then she wouldn't be thinking about any of these things. "We're here, please enter." The Empress pushes open the door and reveals the Royal Room that obviously belonged to the Emperor. Once Kila stepped in she could pratically feel the death in the air, it was suffocating, she draws closer to the bed the Emperor lied in to get a closer look. One look at him and Kila drew in a breath to keep from gasping at his worn out face.

His face was sullen and sunken, and he was extremely pale, from this angle he looked dead and as though he was not breathing. But drawing closer she could see his chest rise and fall, but not without restraint. It seems that the illness this Emperor got was not going to be as easy as she hoped, "I see." She mutters to herself. "I need a quill and parcel." She says without looking at them. The Empress nods at the General who then gave orders to the servant standing outside the room. After getting the parcel and quill she begins to write the symptoms down.

Laboured breathing, Kila checks his wrist. And his heart rate was low, definitely not a good sign. Not to mention that he was malnourished, and showed signs that he could also have Meningitis*[Check glossery for what this is.] but just looking at him was not enough to diagnose this illness. Kila could ask him if he was having any migranes, "have he had any spasms, or signs of vomiting perhaps?" She asks. The Empress looks at her in surprise, "yes, but how...?"

"I just wanted to make an assumption, that's all. On top of this illness the Emperor is also suffering from a rare disease that is still being medically proven." Kila says. "Are you saying the Emperor has two illnesses? How do you know, we have brought many doctors here to see him, how are you so sure right now?" The General asks. It was a good question indeed, but it was not one she would like to get into explaining right now.

"Doesn't matter, I'll need two sets of medication to cure him, in all reality he's been suffering from the first illness for quite a while, But thanks to the Emperor's strong mana he's still alive. I can cure it easily, the second illness, that is a bit more difficult, because it's not natural." She says. The Empress frowns, "not natural? What do you mean?" She asks. Kila turns to her with a serious look on her face, "it means someone here has been cursing the Emperor."
