Chapter 3: Hunting in the Forest

Aji actually wanted to hunt animals in the forest using arrows, but in this time, bows and arrows are important weapons for troops and have a high price. It took a long time to make it and materials that are difficult to obtain. So because Aji is not rich enough to have arrows that can be used for hunting.

Even though Aji has a Keris (traditional java weapon) on the back of his waist, he is confused about how to use it.

Fortunately, in his previous life, Aji had learned how to make traps and other hunting skills.

As long as he cleverly disguised the trap, animals with sensitive senses will also be tricked into stepping on the trap and becoming trapped. Animals are still animals, they often pay attention and inspect the surrounding area, watching out for predators that will ambush them. But they often ignore the dangers that lie beneath their own feet. As long as the traps are set correctly, most of the animals will be tricked. Despite the condition itself, the animals must walk where the traps are set.

Aji surveyed the surrounding area and he found that he was now at the edge of the forest around Mount Muria. There is a stream of small streams in the forest. Aji who has seen many videos about the Animal World knows so many animals, especially herbivores who lived in java, love to go to the river to drink water in the morning. some wild animals also like to ambush herbivorous animals that are drinking by the river.

There are no lions in Java, only Macan Kumbang which can be classified as meat-eating wild animals. But black tigers only come out at night to hunt, and do not come out in the morning. So on the river bank in the morning is not dangerous.

Aji walked back and forth along the river several times to observe the footprints and animal feces around the river. Aji finally found three suitable places, where animals often drink in the area.

In these three places, the terrain on the riverbank was quite flat and there were no trees around. This is understandable because herbivorous animals will choose this place for their drinking comfort and also their safety when running away from predators. Even when the wild beasts would ambush them, the beasts would be found first and they could run away.

After finding the right location, Aji wanted to immediately set the trap. But unfortunately Aji doesn't have a shovel to dig the ground. Therefore, he could only find a tree in the forest, and with the Keris he was carrying, Aji painstakingly cut down a tree branch and made a simple wooden stick that had been sharpened. Then with the wood he painstakingly began digging the trap.

How difficult is it to dig with a simple sharpened wooden stick? The answer is very difficult. But fortunately, the land on the riverbank was moist and had a soft structure. Otherwise, this wooden stick would be useless for digging the soil around the river.

After digging the hole it is time to close the hole. Make the trap holes as natural as possible to suit the surrounding environment. Otherwise, the prey cannot be fooled. Aji rushed to find many tree branches in the forest and put them over the hole. And then, carefully cover the hole with the grass and leaves that just got from the forest.

After Aji made a trap for a long time, Aji finally finished making the first trap. Aji tries to observe it and there is no problem or deficiency in the trap. Then Aji continued to set another trap in the same way in the other two places.

Then, when it was getting dark, Aji left the forest. It is very dangerous to be in the forest at night, because there are black tigers(macan Kumbang) that often roam the forest. If Aji stays in the forest at night, it could be him and Abu (the horse), it could be the black tiger dinner.

So Aji decided to go to the nearest village and tie him to the village gate in the village and Aji fell asleep beside his horse. The climate at the beginning of the dry season was still very cold and he did not bring a blanket himself. In order to stay warm, Aji moved to the only guard post in the village and fell asleep there.

The next morning, Aji was awakened by the sun shining on his face. In fact, the people guarding the village had already found him, but no one dared to wake him up. Because, it can be seen from Aji's clothes that show his identity as a person from the Knight caste. You all must know about caste differences in Hinduism. Because Aji's clothes showed his knight identity, so no one bothered him at all. If it was a power city area that might become a problem. But in a small village like this, with guards just ordinary civilians no one dared to provoke him.

After waking up, Aji stretched his body, then took his horse to the river, washed his face and filled his drinking water supplies. Then Aji went to the forest, dug up some grass roots and ate it for breakfast. This was forced by Aji to fill his energy. After all, the fact is that today's bodies are accustomed to drinking raw water. If she had used her body in modern times she might have gotten stomach sick and diarrhea. In this era, diarrheal disease is difficult to cure and can cause death.

Around 9:00 a.m., Aji felt full and his energy was filled. He went looking for nets to the local people to borrow. Although the villagers reluctantly provided the net, they were afraid that Aji would create trouble. When ready he goes to the forest, go towards the trap that was laid yesterday afternoon.

The first trap, there was no result, it was clear that no animal had stepped on the trap. Then Aji headed to the second trap, Aji was surprised to see the trap he had set had been broken, but to his dismay there were no animals in the hole. It seemed, a beast stepped on the trap by accident, but escaped before falling into the trap.

"Anjay, why are you so unlucky today!". Aji goes to the third trap hoping that the trap will work.

When Aji reached the third trap he saw that the leaf cover had been broken which indicated that the trap had been triggered. As he approached the trap, Aji could hear the screeching of a beast in his trap.

"What animal do you think?" Aji carefully carried his spear and pointed the spear towards the front. Aji was finally able to see what animal was caught in his trap. It is an adult male deer.

After visual observation, Aji found that this strong adult male deer was about 1.3 meters tall and about 1.6 meters long and weighed about 70 kg.

Deer like this in Aji's previous life could only be seen in zoos, happily feeding carrots. But now it's different he has to kill this beast to survive.
