Chapter 2: The Snake and the Sunflower

I walked downstairs and opened the front door to see one big cage on wheels. I called for the girls and we all pulled it inside the house. I had to move constantly, as the person inside was rather hostile towards me, and protecting the other one in the cage with him. He had a rather expensive looking suit of various shades of green with a golden trim and a white shirt beneath it, almost giving off the air of a nobleman.

We all laughed about the fact that he stuck his tongue out at me, although he had tried to bite me on multiple occasions, I kept him from moving too much, since the girl with him was in very frail condition.

Once we got them into the basement, I went to turn on a heat lamp above them since it was freezing in the basement. While the others kept an eye on them, I pushed away the bookshelves covering the small hole that lead to the secret room. I made sure to bring the sheets and pillows with me.

When I was younger, I would hide here and play with the girls, while I skipped out on studying. Now though, I would be putting it to good use and helping the out non-humans by sheltering them here as a sort of safe place. Apparently, this used to be a bigger basement, but a wall was built causing half of it to go unused and unseen by everyone but me and the girls.

When we finished dusting and sweeping the room, we went back to the cage. I opened the door and offered my hand to them, but the man slapped it away and glared at me as though he hated my very soul. I sighed and walked over to the wall where the small hole that lead to the other half of the basement was. Going in, I put out other things such as a lamp, some candles, and a few other things they may want or need to use. I sat down and proceeded to watch the man as he jumped out of the cage and gently landed on his feet with the frail girl still in his arms.

"Dally was it? My friend Lyla is a doctor, she can help her if you ever decide you need to get her some help or treatment." I said as I pointed to Lyla, who just waved shyly at them.

"Tch... It doesn't matter what you call her, she's still forced to be here so she's not your friend, just a captive, a slave even." He said in an angry tone.

I laughed lightly to myself, It seemed that now from here on out, I had a lot of work to do if I wanted to prove that I wasn't like the majority of humans he had met.

He must have heard my laugh as he was glaring at me now. "Ah, I'm sorry, although I hate to use the term, I "bought" you and your friend there since I had overheard that you were set to be sold to someone who I unfortunately had the privilege of meeting. Supposedly, he does horrible things to all of his servants." I explained as I tried to help him understand. He raised an eyebrow.

"If you don't trust me, that's fine, you can leave at any time you like, though I have a few rules... One, Don't let your friend be seen by my father. Two, don't kill anyone here and finally three, if you want to leave, she needs to be able to move around on her own or you can't go anywhere because we won't let you." I folded my arms as I leapt down off of the bed I was sitting on, my demeanor then suddenly changing back to it's usual self.

"Anyway, my name's Zara and it's nice to meet you two. I hope we can eventually at least get along. See, I plan on ending the whole cycle of humanoid trading by making it so that no one can get one. Basically, a secret rescue operation! Fun right?" I said as I smiled at them. The girl laughed a little bit and my grin only widened, now knowing she was able to let her guard down around me.

When Dally's face turned extremely surprised by her actions, he looked over at me with a look of confusion on his face. He smiled at her, and then looked to me again.

"Why are you helping us?" He asked in suspicion. I was somewhat surprised that he was even willing to talk to me so soon. Leon had taken at the very least four to five hours before he said the first word to me without me starting a conversation. I smiled at him happily.

"Well, I guess it's because just knowing that I would be able to help, even if it's only a little bit is honestly all I need to be happy." I said as I smiled and went back upstairs to retire for the night. "Try to get some rest, both of you. You'll be needing it for tomorrow especially her since she'll be needing some extra rest to heal up." As I walked Away, I tossed a small key to the boy inside of the secret room.

"And that opens the door of the fridge and the greenhouse. Your friend will probably be wanting to go there when she gets better."
