Chapter 4: The Blue Flash
Previously, Gyo and Ren faced the principal to ask about the school's basketball club but it turned out that the basketball club had been disbanded last year, making Gyo and Ren disappointed but the principal gave the opportunity to revive the club by gathering 5 people and 1 coach.
"Besides me and Ren, we still need 3 more people." - Gyo looked at Ren then tapped his shoulder- "Okay, let's get Ren, we gather the members and we form our own basketball team."
'' Let's do it !! '' said Ren excitedly.
The two of them then distributed flyers with the aim that new members would join but only 1 person joined.
"My name is Raito Shinkawa, please help." A member who recently joined introduced himself.
"I'm Ren Agaki and this is Gyo Takaki and greet you," said Ren. "So how long have you been playing basketball, Raito?"
Raito took a deep breath and then answered softly, "It's been about a month since I started playing basketball."
"I see, well, Raito, congrats on joining our team," said Ren
They continue to search for their members but it seems that no one else has registered because both the 1st and 2nd and 3rd graders feel what they are doing is just a silly thing. They know that there is no more reason to form it, after all, many former basketball club members have moved schools looking for basketball teams in other schools and others have decided to stop playing basketball.
"It seems like no one has registered anymore," said Raito.
"We must not give up, we must keep trying," said Gyo encouragingly.
"I hate to say this but it seems like I have no other choice but to invite that person," said Ren.
''That person? You mean Shin? Why should he? '' Asked Gyo in surprise.
"Because as we can see that he is talented in basketball, we would be stronger if he were around," replied Ren.
"Okay, let's try to persuade him," said Gyo.
They went to class to persuade Shin. Arriving at the class, you can see Shin lying down with his legs stretched out over the table and his face covered with books.
'' Hey you! There is an important thing I want to talk about, "-Ren glared at Shin who was not paying attention and then roughly, Ren pounded the table in front of him-" "Shin Ataru, I'm talking to you."
"Never mind Ren, don't be emotional like this," said Gyo soothingly.
"What do you need with me?" Asked Shin, who was surprised.
"Look, we formed a basketball team and we want you to join us," said Raito.
`` Joining lousy people like you? I'm not in the mood. '' Shin walked out of the classroom, pointing his thumbs down.
"Hey you bastard," Ren was provoked.
"Don't be emotional, Ren," persuaded Gyo.
"Please join us, our team can be strong if you are around," said Raito persuadingly.
`` Alright, but on the condition that you guys have to beat me. '' Shin turned his face away with an disparaging smile.
'' Well I will fight you, '' said Ren.
'' Not only you but you three are also allowed and the rules are quite simple, that is, if you can win the ball before I put it in the ring then you win but if you can't win the ball then I will win.
"Do you understand my explanation?" explained Shin.
"Okay, I accept your challenge," said Gyo excitedly.
The match started, Gyo opened his glasses so he could use his golden eyes.
"I'll finish it quickly!" -Shin then dribbled the ball and twisted beautifully then passed Raito who was guarding the front with ease- "" Hmm, it's still a beginner and really weak !! "said Shin .
Shin then runs dribbling the ball towards Ren, a fierce ball struggle occurs but Shin is faster than Ren so he can get through.
Now there is one on one left between Gyo and Shin, when Shin drible a ball Gyo followed in any direction he drible the ball.
`` Looks like you've trained enough in using those eyes, but as long as you can't control them completely I won't lose, '' said Shin.
"Thanks for the compliment, but I won't lose and will make you join us," Gyo replied.
Furthermore Shin unexpectedly got past Gyo and was about to shoot a little longer but a beam of light passed through Shin and the ball in his hand was gone.
`` No way, what really happened? '' Said Shin in surprise.
"What was that light?" Said Ren in surprise.
`` The b-ball is gone !! Looks like the blue light that took the ball in my hand earlier, no doubt it must be that person but what is he doing in a place like this ?? '' muttered Shin.
"Hehehe looks like I managed to get the ball and you ended up losing." Raito stood holding the ball with both legs emitting a blue light.
It turned out that the one who stole the ball was Raito who, according to Shin, was the weakest of them.
`` Y-you're that Blue Flash, what are you doing in this place? '' Said Shin in surprise.
`` Blue Flash? What does that mean Raito? '' Said Gyo, surprised too.
"Looks like I've heard that nickname, isn't Blue Flash a person with lightning speed who plays in an inter-junior high basketball tournament that leads his friends to win almost all matches but ultimately lose in the finals.
"But after that he disappeared without a trace from the world of basketball," said Ren at length.
`` Wow, well, it looks like I'm quite famous but it's just an old nickname, there's nothing special about that nickname after all, I've thrown that nickname away for a long time, '' said Raito.
"What are you saying? How can someone as great as you turn into a loser?" asked Shin in surprise.
"I am is I am and how people judge about me is their business," replied Raito.
