Chapter 8: C8. Card Obtained

The distorting view and ear-boggling sound of the warps finally came to a halt as my vision eventually stabilized and the surroundings became steady once more.

"My Lord, Are you alright?" Ryen, one of my bodyguards for the day asked,

"Yeah," I muttered, blinking a couple of times, and slowly walked off the warp platform, my eyes constantly darted around in curiosity. The giant warp machine towered behind me as the guards stationed at the entrance quickly stepped aside to let us through.

Due to the expensive toll fee required to take the warp, anyone who had the money to uses it would typically be someone of high status, therefore, it was natural for a lowly guard to be extremely respectful to anyone exiting from the warps.

Ahead of me, the town was just as I remembered. The medieval-style houses and the large crowds of pedestrians busily going about their day through the town.

Although the first time I had arrived here I was basically the same as a homeless beggar, a single year can really change a person.

"My Lord, where are we heading?" Ryen asked, eagerly looking around while Serin simply stayed silent, his poker face cautiously scanned the surrounding for any approaching danger.

"There," I pointed at the familiar cylinder building in the middle of the town, swerving my way through the densely packed crowd.

"The guild?" He frowned as he quickly followed me through the busy street.

Because the Grand Duke family is situated at the Capital City of Suin, the majority of people who frequent the town of Reuston wouldn't know the appearance of the Young Duke nor the appearance of the prestigious uniform worn by the Grand Duke's personal guards, hence not a single person gave me a second glance as I nudged my way through.

Flinging open the door of the guild, I turned around and glanced at the two guards by my side.

"Wait here," I ordered before walking in, the festive atmosphere welcoming me with open arms.

The guards nodded as they stood still at the entrance.

The inside of the guild was as crowded as the last time I was here. The laughing and chatters of party members filled the air with the occasional clinking of cups at the connected tavern to the side.

"I came to collect my guild ID." I walked over to the receptionist and explained.

"Name please?" The receptionist quickly glanced at me and instantly looked away, recognizing the air of nobility I was exuding.

"Sen."

The receptionist nodded and quickly scanned through her folder before a small frown appeared on her face.

"May I ask how long ago did you apply for the ID?"

I raised my head in thought before replying.

"Around a year ago I'd say."

"A year ago," She repeated, putting away the folder and skimming through the draw before pulling out another.

"Ah, found it." She exclaimed after searching through the giant folder for a few minutes.

"Is this the one?" She held out a card, sliding it across the desk.

On it were the details I had provided a year ago, although the age column seemed to have automatically updated to my current age.

"If you wish to update your level or any other information on the ID, you'll need to place it into one of these devices." She quickly took out a moderate-sized grey stone-like textured device with a small indent in the shape of a card etched in the middle.

"Ok," I nodded, following the instructions

[Processing ID]

A small screen appeared on the stone

[Please update card]

A large projection of my guild ID was displayed on the smooth surface of the stone

"Just tap which row you wish to change and fill in the correct detail."

"What if I fake my level?" I frowned at the low-security measures provided for the authenticity of the guild IDs.

"If you wish to fake your ID, that'll simply be detrimental to your own safety and health. These bronze ID cards are handed to any members below level 50. Any level above that gets cross-examined by the guild master himself and given a silver or gold card depending on your level. Once your level is imputed in the card, you can only further increase the level and accept missions within a 4 level range of the level detailed on your card. Therefore, any injury resulting from missions will be solely the adventurer's fault." The receptionist explained with a professional tone.

"Understood," I nodded, pocketing the card, and headed back out.

"Let's go." I made my way past my guards towards the warp building once more.

"Did you apply to be an adventurer?" Ryen asked tilting his head, clearly confused about my actions.

I simply nodded, hoping it would stop any further questioning.

"Why? I don't see any point in My Lord becoming an adventurer. They give extremely low pay and the bad far outweighs the good in your case." Ryen blurted with a frown. "If you want to gain fighting experience then being a knight would give more honor and benefits than a lowly adventurer. With My Lord's status, becoming a knight would be an extremely easy task to accomplish. They also get better training compared to any adventurer facilities out there."

I could feel a headache coming from Ryen's non-stop disapproval of my actions. Finally not able to take it in anymore, I rubbed my forehead and turned around with an annoyed and frustrated expression on my face.

"Can you just stop nagging for one second? Are you the master here or am I?" I growled, staring daggers at Ryen's shocked face.

"I-I" Ryen stuttered, flustered about my sudden outburst. "I apologize for my unsightly behavior," He bowed, his legs trembling a bit.

"Good," I muttered, turning back around and looked around, spotting the old 'Elin's Weaponry' sign dangling in front of a small storefront.

A small smirk rose from my face as the memories of the confrontation I had with the store owner surfaced in my memory.

"Why don't we go take a look," I muttered, changing my destination and weaving through the crowd towards the store.

"My Lord, the Grand Duke requested for you to head back to the mansion after you've attended your business." Serin suddenly spoke out, his face still as emotionless as ever.

I glanced back at him with a disapproving look.

"It's the master's words, not my own." He stated nonchalantly.

Estimating the time via the placing of the sun, I stared back at Serin, sparking a small staring contest. But as expected, the stiff robot-like guard won easily, forcing me to begrudgingly head back towards the giant warp platform located to the west of the adventurer district.

A knock of the door echoed into the giant study room of the Grand Duke's estate.

"Master, It is I, Xavier." A voice called out from the entrance.

"Come in," the Grand Duke's voice replied as the door opened up, revealing the figure of a middle-aged man wearing a butler's uniform.

"Master, the letters have been sent successfully." Xavier bowed and reported.

"How many of them approve of the plan?" The Grand Duke's hand halted on the documents piled on his desk as he looked up.

"5 of them instantly agreed, and 3 of them needed a little more time to think," Xavier replied.

"Good." The Grand Duke smiled, leaning back on his seat and looking back down at the papers littered in front of him. "The banquet is in a week. Have the country's best tailor to customize an outfit worthy enough for my son." He ordered, sitting back up straight.

"Understood." the butler bowed, heading out the room, quietly closing the door behind him.
