"It's been a pretty harsh winter" said the pale girl, with straight, long and dark hair that almost reached her knees, somewhat asking for a small talk.

I slightly nodded, not even being able to pay attention to what others were saying.

I buried my head, in my arms, almost falling into a deep slumber, until not only I, but, the entire class was interrupted by high-pitched voice of Ms. Choi

"Okay....class, I have an important announcement to make." She said.

I looked up at her, with my dreary eyes, trying my best to understand what she meant to say.

"I shall be assigning all of you an important project, for which the participation of each an every student in this class is manditory." She continued.

As soon as she finished her sentence, a loud sigh was heard from a huge number students in the class.

Naturally, there were hardly any students that had any will to go to school, especially during this season. On top of that, a project?! It was a huge no!

But, of course, the students didn't stand a chance to go against the 'mighty' teachers of our school, and had no other choice but to keep their mouth shut, and do what the teacher had asked them to do.

"All of you, will be assigned a project based on famous historical novels written during the Joseon period." She said while eyeing me, as if, she would kill me if i declined.

I gave a weak smile, assuring her that none of it would happen this time.

After a while of giving details, related to the assignemt, she left the class, without a word of goodbye

"Oh kill me already! I seriously can't believe these teachers!" Said Yu-na, who was rocking her chair back and forth.

"Is this the punishment of skipping classes for just two days?" Ye-rim asked with an annoyed look, which was later replaced with a sigh.

I didn't know how to reply to them, so I fake smiled and went out of the class, not bothering to wait for their reply.

The faster the better, hence, I decided to complete this project right away, not trying to sound like a nerd though. I rushed down to library, since it was recess.

I had to find a good novel, in that huge library. I had to borrow it, before anyone else did.

I ran down the stairs, like an olympic sprinter, and slowed down, almost losing my balance and falling, right in front of the entrance of the library.

It was embarassing as a matter of fact, but what annoyed me the most was that, there were already students crowding up, near the historical section, from my class.

I clenched my fists, and raced towards the crowd which looked like the crowd of a black friday sale. I had been known as the 'Kim Bok-joo' of my class since junior middle school, so I ended up being the cause of a huge fall of a few girls, when I tried to push and move through the crowd of students.

The librarian on seeing that, got up from her old wooden chair, pushed back her glasses and pointed out a finger at me, sternly indicating me to get out.

Could this day get worse?

I shook my head in dismay, and walked out of the library, hanging my head low.

A series of anger and sadness blew through me as she could've just asked those students to settle down. Instead, she kicked me out.

I didn't wanna go inside my loud class filled with annoying rats, hence I went to the only calm place present in our school, in other words, the only place i liked at school.

It was a beautiful, well-maintained ground, seldom surrounded by any students, and was the home of many colourful flowers and plants.

For a particular reason, not known by me, it looked even more beautiful during winter. When rest of the city looked dull and had a depressing aura, this was the only place, which felt like a cool heaven, as if i was on top of a beautiful, snowy mountain.

I sat down on the ground, and closed my eyes, almost falling asleep, once again.

I wanted to lie down on this ground forever.

As I was drowsing into a deep slumber, I felt a gentle tap on my shoulder.

I slowly opened my eyes and rubbed them to see a female figure, according to my assumptions, standing in front of me.

Her face was covered with a Jangot, and she was wearing a traditional Hanbok, holding a fat book, almost as thick as the size of my palm.

The only portion of her face that was uncovered, was of her mouth.

She slowly revealed the entire book, by pointing it towards me, as if she was indicating me to take it.

"Why are you giving me this?" I asked in confusion.

I expected a reply, but instead recieved an eerie silence.

I tried to ignore her, and the loud wind that was gushing by me, somehow, right after she had arrived....thinking she would leave, but no...

She continued her action, and left me with no other choice but to take it.

"But...what will I do with this...?" I asked, starting to get a little creeped out by her.

She gave a slight smirk, turned around and left....slowly disappearing at a distance.

I sat down, not understanding one bit of what just happened. On a day like this, I could least expect a weird and unknown lady, handing out such a heavy and fat book...to me.

I looked down at the book, lying in my hands, and examined it thoroughly.

It was dark, and rough around the edges. It was quite dusty, old-fashioned and out of taste for today's generation. It had a beautiful border in gold, and had the words inscripted....

'재스민 속'

Which meant 'Jasmine', in english...

I cleared the dust, and opened the book, turning to the first page, and started reading it.

And, to my surprise, it was something which i was exactly looking for. A novel written exactly during the beginning of Joseon dynasty, But....how did that lady know that I needed this...?

Something seemed quite off, but I shook my thoughts away, and continued to read it.

As I kept on reading it, I didn't keep an eye on the changing environment around me. It had suddenly gotten extremely windy, almost like a storm, and, within a matter of seconds, this strong wind had almost became a Tornado, engulfing everything that came in it's way.

I didn't even know how to react, and the only thing that came in my mind was to run.

I got up, holding the heavy book, left open, in my hands, and turned around to run....when suddenly, the pages started flying high up in the sky, near the tornado.

The pages had uncontrollibly started falling out and flying, leaving me in an extreme dilemma.

I tried to run, but tripped on a branch, and faceplanted on the ground.

Tears were rolling down my eyes, as the tornado was nearing and I knew I would have to suffer a horrible death.

As it kept nearing me, I closed my eyes shut, knowing that these were the last few seconds of my life.

I continued to keep my eyes shut, and waited for minutes and minutes, just to realise I was still alive.

I looked up, and had to rub my eyes twice and pinch myself, as I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

The tornado was enormous indeed but had ancient ancient Idu characters floating up across the sky, next to it.

I've seen all this in movies, but have no idea of what was happening.

I was trembling with fear as the characters came closer and closer to me, and suddenly with a loud noise, came racing towards me.

My jaw dropped, as there was nothing I could do, to aid this situation.

As the characters were coming even closer, my head started spinning and I fell down on the hard ground, with the book falling out of my hands.

This is what I last saw, as everything blacked out after that...

CREATORS' THOUGHTS
Ava_gurl1812 Ava_gurl1812

Hello everyone, this is coming from the author of 'Jasmine'. I never actually knew that I would be out here, on Web Novel, writing and publishing books. I prefer writing not as a passion but as a hobby, that can keep me engaged for a while. I'm no proffesional writer, infact, I had just taken up writing, around an year ago. Thanks to Web Novel, who are eager to lend a helping hand. I'm underrated right now, but would highly appriciate your support.
