Chapter 40: Cultivate Your Skills
Eren got curious. "What negative vibes?"
Sienna wanted to kick his ass at the moment. "Wouldn't I have told if I actually knew? I'll have to check! Idiot!!!"
"Why do you have to shout? I don't know how it feels like. I was just curious."
Sienna turned to Schwann. "I feel danger coming. Can I just take a look?"
"Do it. But... donot try to see anything else. Remember the condition."
"Yeah! I'll remember." Sienna said quickly. She then tried to focus on what was happening around them. Tania was standing near Aster. She couldn't make out what was happening. She was pretty confused. She couldn't understand why Sienna was acting weird. Aster could feel the weird look on Tania's face.
"Sienna's a praesen." Aster explained.
"What?! That's a rare gift. Then why is she here? Wasn't she trained properly by your monarch?"
Aster was surprised by Tania's reaction.
"M-monarch? G-gift? Well... Being a praesen is considered as a curse on Earth."
"But why? Isn't that a gift that only some recieve?"
"The authorities say that it is dangerous for someone to have that gift. They also kills every praesen they find. Sienna was hiding her skills from everyone including me and Eren until, we came into hiding and Eren and Sienna had to find where we were. Afterwards, Schwann asked her to use it only when she was asked to do so."
"Ohh! But there in my world, praesens are valued as jewels. They are given much more importance than a normal human being. My father was one too. He was very powerful. Being a praesen helped him a lot too. Being a royal descendent he was able to become the king. But people loved him for being a good person. But some years ago... That monster came in unexpectedly. His powers were too strong for even praesens to recognize his arrival. He.. He killed-"
"Trespassers!" Sienna interrupted Tania. "Two men have entered the mist. They are walking towards the cave."
"Did the authorities send them?" Hogman asked. Everyone was jerked up a bit.
"I checked for that possibility. But, the authorities have no idea about our location yet. But, these people who have come are here for us. It is clear from their speech. Seems like they are here for you Hogman!"
Hogman was surprised to hear this.
"Me?! Why would someone look for me? Unless their ultimate motive is to find Aster? I have no family."
"Don't you have friends?" Aster asked out of the blue.
"Friends... yeah but... I don't think they'll come looking for me. They do not involve in these things anymore."
"Hmmm...Let's go and check." Schwann said. Then he turned to Eren, Sienna, Aster and Tania who were trying to follow them. "You four, stay here! We'll fix the things out there."
"But..." Eren began but he was silenced by Amelia's cold glares.
Hogman, Schwann and Amelia left the cave without a word. Eren was fustrated. He was sitting in that cave for months now. Though he and Sienna were taking training from Schwann too, they already knew all the things that Aster was taught. They were the most powerful mages in the school afterall.
Aster was given extraordinary powers by that stone but he had to start with the alphabets of magic. The only thing that was giving Sienna and Eren hope was that Aster was a fast learner. And the thing that confused them was that Aster could use spells that was never even taught to him. He used it out of intuition. Eren thought of all this while keeping his eyes fixed on the cave wall.
Sienna gazed at the burning fire and thought about her parents. Everyone was immersed in their own thoughts. A calm yet tense silence enveloped the people in the cave. It was Tania that broke the silence.
"Aster...which level are you in?"
Aster was startled by the sudden question. "Huh?! Yeah! First level."
"Oh! Isn't Schwann teaching you well?"
"What did you mean?"
"Did he teach you how to cultivate your skills?"
"Not reached that stage yet. That's what he told when I asked him a week ago."
"Hmmm.... Well... I guess you can be taught to cultivate. It's only with culvation that you can reach different levels of magic."
Eren was a bit bored with their monotonous chatter. "Sienna, why don't you check what's happening outside?"
"If Schwann comes to know that I'm spying on then he'll kick me out of here. Remember that!" Sienna told seriously.
"Oh, c'mon! How will he find out unless we tell him? Aster is never gonna say. Neither am I. I'm sure Tania's on our side too. Aren't you?"
"Yeah... I'm on your side." Tania couldn't help herself from laughing at the irony. On her planet praesens are valued and respected. But here... they are executed. Tania let out a chuckle.
"Sienna, please check it. Ever since we have known this, I have felt like knowing more about Schwann and Amelia. Please... just this once." Aster whined like a baby.
"Speaking about that! Why did you pull her hair earlier?" Sienna asked.
"Ah! That... whenever she goes weeping like that after we fight, that is the best method to console her."
"She is one of the strongest mages our school has ever seen and she fights with you for itty bitty things? Woah! Never expected that!" Eren chuckled.
"Hey! Don't laugh at my sister. She is the best sister in the world."
"Cut the crap! Do you want me to check on them?" Sienna asked.
"Yeah!" The cave echoed their consent.
"Ok..."
Sienna closed her eyes and tried to concentrate on the things happening outside the cave.
