Chapter 16: First Class

They didn't talk much after that since Ailen needed to attend his first classes. Nicolas told Ailen that he'd come if Ailen summoned him; Ailen nodded at the information and noted that mentally. There's no negative aura radiating around Nicolas. He's not sure if Nicolas would keep up his façade.

A façade so Ailen would let his guard down and let Nicolas stab him in the back.

Ailen sighed, tired of overthinking. But he couldn't help it. He's terrified of his safety, worrying that the Duke family would strike—or worse, The Emperor. The Emperor must've thought of a plan this week since he thought Ailen wouldn't practice how to use his power. They'll use the entire month to think of ways on how to eradicate Ailen from the face of earth.

Ailen needed to hurry.

His first class was etiquette.

It's bearable, but not enjoyable.

He learned how to sit properly, how to use silverware, how to hold a cup of tea, basic courtesies, et cetera. Ailen then reminded himself to exercise because he forgot the current body he's living in was a sickly boy who just woke up after three years of coma.

Then he moved on to his next lessons; history, painting, mathematics, music, and fencing. Okay, he's not ready for fencing at all. The trainer was ruthless despite his gentle looks. Ailen couldn't feel his brain and muscles after those seemingly endless hours of classes.

He'll have to go through all that for another three weeks.

"Please prepare a bath for His Highness," Irma immediately told the maids who are cleaning in Ailen's chambers when Ailen walked in wearily.

Meredith cooed as she took off Ailen's blazer, letting the poor tired boy plop on his bed with his creased white shirt and shorts.

"It's hell," Ailen mumbled.

Meredith giggled. "Oh, Your Highness, you'll do fine,"

"I wouldn't get the chance to practice the bond if I kept getting tired by the end of the day," Ailen whined, sitting up straight with his shoulders hunched. There's one maid who crouched down in front of him to take off his shoes and replaced them with slippers.

"You have day-offs, Your Highness. Saturdays and Sundays,"

"I only have three Saturdays and four Sundays to figure out how to use the bond. Technically I only have seven days," Ailen countered with a dry tone.

"You'll be fine!" Meredith chuckled softly.

Ailen sighed, nodding his head. "Right, what's my schedule for tomorrow?"

"Tomorrow? just your classes,"

"Hm. Can I change the time? I want early classes,"

"Of course. May I ask why?" Meredith asked curiously.

Ailen shrugged, giving a small smile. "I wanted to explore the city a little. It'll be brief, I promise,"

It's not entirely a lie. Though, he intended to find this mysterious El.
