Chapter 3: 03

Two years.

We've been traveling the world for two years wiping out small groups of dog men. It's gotten harder tho. They are in large groups now.

Apparently the drug got out before we were born. They didn't know the side effects until us. The scientist that made it ran off with the formula and sold it to anyone with the cash. These Dog Men are everywhere.

Today we are going after the largest compound yet. 300 Dog Men against 4 trained wariors... I'm not sure it's a fair fight... for them. The thing that still haunts us is the kids. Who would turn children into this? It seems so... wrong.... they killed them when they took the drug. It's not our fault... but it is something I have to live with. One thing is for certain. I'm never having kids. I can't pass this on to them. I won't create another monster.

"Mission details!" Father yells as he enters the conference room.

"Big day boys! You've taken care of the smaller groups so now it's time for a challenge!" He smiles as he hands out the folders on out next target.

"You can drive to this one... just across the border in Mexico... at least 300 strong. Walled compound. Guarded... but you are the Dog Boys! Most powerful team out there!" He says. We cheer knowing its true we are powerful... I just can't wait until this is over. Once we end the Dog Men everyone will be safe.

"We can head out tomorrow." I say standing. "A full on assault may not be our best option this time... we should try to infiltrate under a flag of peace."

"No." Father says standing up and walking towards me. "You know the rules. No contact. No prisoners. No survivors."

"Its a safer option!" I argue.

"No Titan! The rules are there for a reason! You do not communicate with the Dog Men! They are crazy and irrational! Take them out! That's an order!" He yells at me.

"Yes commander." I growl at him. He looks away with a sigh.

"I'm sorry Titan." He places a hand on the back of my neck and looks me in the eye. "I'm just looking out for you son... it's for the best... I'm trying to protect you all... they are unpredictable and insane. You can't trust them. If you go in unarmed they will kill you... I couldn't take that boy... you need to be safe."

"Yes father." I hug him... the closest family I have. My brothers and my father.

"Let's go boys... we leave at sun up." At that we prepare for tomorrow. Our biggest mission yet.

"Come on Titan loosen up! This is the big one! We can prove ourselves! The missions have been so easy so far." Anhur says bouncing up and down in the back seat of the truck.

"Nothing is easy about what we do." Odin grumbles from the front.

"Geeze man! It's not like I like killing people! But if we all tortured ourselves like you do we'd have committed suicide after the first misson." Anhur argues.

"Maybe we should have... I'm starting to think we are the bad guys here." Odin whispers.

"Listen to me Odin." I say and he turns back to look at me. "We are protecting our country... the human race! They chose this. They are dangerous human weapons. We are doing what's right! You are not leaving us! You are our brother! When this is all over we can sit back and beat ourselves for what we've done but for now we are on mission. If we fail people die."

"What ever Titan." He mumbles.

"Don't what ever me! This is life and death! Our lives! If you're heads not in it you could get us killed!" I yell at him.

"We're murderers! Killers! Monsters! That's all we are Titan and you know it! They say they saved us but I'd rather be dead!" Odin screams.

"SHUT UP!" I order.

Something funny. We don't know our birthdays but around the time I turned 20 I could give them orders and they can't disobey them. It comes in handy when Anhur starts acting the fool but I don't usually use it on Odin. The others can do it too but it doesn't seem to affect me. When they do it they can sway the others but can't really force them to do anything.

"Harsh man." Aries says.

"You want me to shut you up too Aries!" I yell.

"Nope... let's just get on with the mission." He answers never taking his eyes off the road.

The rest of the drive was silent. I'm sure the command wore off but Odin still isn't talking. He won't even look at me.

"We're here." Odin finally speaks.

"Well then let's get this over with." I say exiting the vehicle.

"You guys need to cheer up. I can't handle this negativity." Anhur jumps out after me.

"Same as always. Take out the patrols. Circle the compound. We climb the walls. Change as soon as you're over. Kill as many as you can before they start to change. It's our best chance." I tell them. They all nod and we break up.

Hunting down the patrols was a chore. I can smell dog men everywhere. Once we cleared the surrounding woods we begin to climb. I change and rip through a few men before the alarm was raised. Hopefully my men did the same. Soon Dog Men pour out of every house. The streets are full of motion as they try to assess the threat.

We end up in the middle of the camp destroying everyone in our paths. Part of our training was to change forms in a matter of seconds. It took years to master but is handy in a fight. I jump over an attacking wolf change and plunge my knife into his skull. Before his body hits the ground I'm a wolf again biting the throat of another wolf.

"Mine!" I hear someone yell.

When I look over the fighting has slowed as Odin stands in front of a girl blocking her from Aries.

"Back of Aries I won't let you hurt her!" Odin growls. I change and walk up to him.

"Calm down Odin. Stay on mission." I tell him. Keeping an eye out over my shoulder.

"And what exactly is your mission pup?" An older man storms up to us.

Aries and Anhur change and stand next to me guns drawn. We are surrounded by snarling Dog Men.

"Pup? Seriously? Our mission Dog Man is to eliminate the threat that you and idiots like you pose to people!" I snap at him.

"Don't call me a dog, boy! I am Alpha around here! And we are not idiots. We've been preparing for this... we just figured the hunters were humans not some of our own." The man responds.

"We're not like you! We didn't choose this! Don't you realize that you are killing yourselves! Your wives! Your children! All for what? Power!? Why would you choose to be like this!?" I yell to him.

"Choose? It's who we are pup no one chooses who they are." He looks confused. Bull! he took the drug. This is his fault. "How long have you been with them?" He asks. He looks... concerned?

"Cut the crap! I'm done talking! Odin get on mission! NOW!" I order him. He growls and starts shaking resisting me.

"No! You'll kill her!" He keeps his body between us and the girl.

"NOW!" I order again. This time he steps towards me. I look around. No way we can finish this with Odin having a mental breakdown. "RETREAT NOW!" I order and we pull back shooting any wolves in our way. Aries and I have to literally drag Odin out of there.

"What's wrong with you man!?" Aries yells as we throw Odin in the truck.

"You could have gotten us killed!" I add.

"I don't know... that girl... she's amazing! I couldn't let you hurt her!" He explains.

"No she is a target. Along with the rest of those Dog Men! We failed because of you!" I yell. He whimpers.

"I need her... I love her." Odin whines.

"Git a grip you just met her! You don't even know her name!" Aries tells him.

"Odin's got a girlfriend!" Anhur taunts.

"Shut it Anhur!" I yell then turn to Odin. "They must have used some kind of hypnotic gas on you... its the only explanation. Once we get you home the effects should wear off." I try to comfort him.

"I'm not sure I want to... her scent gets me higher than any whiskey Anhur ever stole from father... I want her more than I've ever wanted anything in my life!" Odin looks dazed as he talks about her. Man this boy needs to come down.

"It will be better once we're home. I promise. You'll be fine in a few days brother." I tell him but his dazed look persists and I can tell he's not listening to me. What ever they hit him with must be strong.

●○●○●

"What went wrong?" Father asks as I step out of the truck.

"They hit Odin with some Bio weapon. Dude lost it in the middle of the fight. We pulled him out but he needs to detox." I tell him.

"Take him to the infirmary." Father tells Aries. He and Anhur drag Odin inside.

"You need to finish the mission Titan." Father tells me.

"Odin is in no condition to fight. What ever they hit him with was strong. The guy is loopy." I tell him.

"Over a girl he met there?" Father asks.

"Yea... how did you..." he cuts me off.

"Doesn't matter.. you, Aries, and Anhur will go back tomorrow." He says.

"But Odin!" I argue.

"I'll take care of him but you must complete the mission... you know all that stops them from terminating this project is your 100% success rate... if you don't keep that none of you are safe." Father looks away from me. I know his meaning. If we fail they kill us. We are just as dangerous as the ones we kill if not more so due to our training.

"You'll make sure he is ok?" I ask.

"Of course Titan... I told you from the beginning I'm here to look out for you boys." He smiles and it is comforting. Father has always taken care of us why would he stop now?

"Thank you father." I say and go inside.

"We go back tomorrow." I tell Aries and Anhur as I enter our room.

"But Odin? He can't..." Anhur starts.

"Father will look out for him. We have to finish the mission. We took out most of their trained men this time. The three of us can finish this while he recovers." I flop onto my cot. "Rest up Dog Boys!" They don't argue we all just go to sleep.

"Up and at um boys!" Father wakes us a couple hours later. "You need to get on the road before they recover from the last assault."

"Yes father." We respond and dress for war.

●○●○

"Take out the guards and storm in... watch out for anything that could be what they hit Odin with. I don't want to lose you guys too." I order as we watch the dog man compound.

"Will do." Aries replies. And Anhur nods.

"This time it's for Odin! They hurt him and they will pay in blood!" I tell them.

"Heck yea!" Anhur cheers.

"Let's go!" Aries agrees.

Father's POV

"Yea the boys just left." I tell my superior over the phone.

"And the fourth?" He asks.

"We knew this could happen using werewolves to fight werewolves... he's gonna be useless now that he's met his mate. My boys will kill her and her pack but he will be broken... I think it's best to cut our losses with him." I explain.

"Do it!... you better clean this up or we'll have to cut our losses with your entire program." I gulp. Please Titan finish this.

"Understood sir. It will be taken care of." I answer.

"Good." The click tells me the discussion is over.

Why did you have to meet your mate boy? I don't want to do this but... well I guess it was inevitable. I go to the infirmary where Odin is sedated.

"I'm sorry son... you were a good kid." I put my gun under his chin and pull the trigger. Such a waste.

Titan POV

They are gone.

We decimated the camp. No survivors. They didn't expect us back so soon. The patrols we killed before entering were the last of their trained men. The rest we picked off easily. I didn't even change. Didn't need to. They were broken and defeated before we pulled back up.

"Good job boys!" Father greets us once again.

"How's Odin?" Is the first thing I say.

"I'm sorry Titan." Father responds looking down.

"What happened!? You said you'd take care of him!" I yell.

"I tried but what ever they gave him messed with his mind... he killed himself Titan." Father says.

"I want to see him." I say.

"I don't think that's"

"NOW!" I cut him off.

"He's in the morgue... they cleaned him up but... you boys really don't want to see him like that." Father says as the three of us push past him to find our brother. I stop dead when I see his body.

"Odin." Anhur gasps.

"No!" I yell punching a metal cabinet leaving a massive dent.

"Why would he do that?" Anhur asks tears in his eyes.

"He said he didn't want to live." Aries mentions.

"No. It was the drugs. They killed him. He died because of the Dog Men." I growl
