Chapter 2: Chapter Two

The dishonorable man carries her through the park and people gasped looking at her appearance. Before he reached the car, someone ran up to him and asked fretfully if Melanie was alright. "Oh, my gosh! Are you okay? I saw him chasing you earlier. I have 911 typed in on my phone, do I need to call ma'am?" an Asian lady in her 30's asked the beaten girl, completely ignoring the man holding her.

Before she could answer, Robert, flashed his jaw-dropping smile, "No ma'am you don't. I was chasing after her because she called me and said she was gonna kill herself. What she didn't know was I was here at the park too. She cut herself and she saw I was coming. I chased after her and she fell down a hill, that's all. Thanks for the concern, but I should really get her to the hospital before she does any more damage. Bye." He said walking away, ignoring the concerned and displeased woman's calls.

Melanie was forced back into the car, putting up much of a fight as she could, but of course she lost.

Why me? She thought to herself over and over again. What did I do to deserve this? Maybe I was a miscalculation in God's plans.

Soon as they got to his house Robert dragged her inside. He pushed her to the floor and went to lock the door. When she got up and turned around her face felt a familiar stinging sensation and her face again met the wooden floor. Tears streamed down her face and she began to cry. Bending down to her level, he forcefully grabs her chin so she could look at him, "Now, will you try to run from me again?" Robert asked her.

"No." Melanie whispers while lightly shaking her aching head.

He stands up and grabs her hair in addition to throwing a punch at her face, "Huh baby? I didn't hear you good enough." He spoke with a gruff voice.

"No!" She squeals a little bit louder as the pain of being held up by her hair is becoming overwhelming.

Robert snickers as the sound of pain leaves Melanie's mouth along with spitting in her face.

"What was that baby?" He asked as he slapped her to the floor. She was sobbing so loud she didn't gather what he said. So, Robert hit her again so hard Melanie almost thought her nose broke, "HUH?!"

"NO! I'LL NEVER LIE AND RUN AWAY FROM YOU AGAIN. I'M SORRY!" Melanie screamed loud as she could, silently praying to God for him to stop.

Once he finished, he took her to his room, dropped her on the hard, cold floor, locked the door and left. Soon enough she gathered the strength to go to the bathroom, fix her appearance and heavily cake on her makeup in hopes of hiding any new bruises. An hour later, the battered young girl gets up and crawls to her book bag and takes out her diary. Tears descend as she opens it and begins to jot down her sorrow:

Love? What is this thing they call love? I do not understand it. They say love hurts…but I didn't know it would hurt this bad. I don't think he even loves me anymore. Or did he love me in the first place? Can't he already see I go through enough as it is? I don't need this on top of it. It's already enough to be mistreated at home, I don't need to feel even more stupid, rejected and useless than I already feel.

Can't he see me here crying and broken? Don't you see as you're standing above me yelling, you're hurting me?

Sometimes I know it's my fault. Sometimes I can't just listen. I had to lie, didn't I?

I know I should leave, I know I should just leave him alone.

But I need him. I want him. God help me because I love him….

The day had aged, it's now 6:00 pm and Melanie fell asleep 2 hours ago. She tried to open the door and beg Robert to let her out, but he said it was part of her "punishment". With nothing else to do but soak in her sorrow, which she wasn't going to do, she decided to get some sleep. Robert had to let her leave sometime so she can go home. And when she does go home, she had to deal with her drunken mother, and she'd need to save her energy to deal with her. The bedroom door opens to reveal Robert. He comes to the side of the bed and stares at Melanie for a while and thinks:

Look at her…pathetic. I try very hard not to hurt her, but she makes it impossible sometimes. When will she realize everything will be fine once she starts listening to me? What's it going to take for her to break?

Remembering Melanie should go home; he shook his thoughts away and woke her up. When she wakes up and sees his face, she slowly started to go pale while scooting away from him. Robert notices the fear rising inside of her and reassures his girlfriend he's not going to hurt her. She nods and he caresses her face in a dangerously calm manner, "I think you should probably go home, baby…" Robert says to her in a caring tone of voice. Melanie nods and slowly gets off the bed and gathers her stuff. As she walks to the bedroom door her arm is grabbed and she quickly turns around to meets Robert's face. He slowly walks up to her and she takes a step back for every step he takes toward her.

Soon enough, he has her pinned to his green wall. Melanie immediately thinks for the worst, but instead, it's the complete opposite, "I'm sorry," Robert says as he touches her cheek, "I love you... I didn't mean to hurt you. I just got angry… I won't do it again, alright baby? I lost control a little bit, that's all. You still love me, don't you?" He asks while tightening his grip on her arm.

Melanie is used to hearing him tell her he's sorry, knowing he's being manipulative when he says it. She told herself that she would stop believing him, but she falls for it every time. Sometimes she convinces herself it's her fault and he means that he loves her. The young girl has gotten into the mindset of believing everything is her fault. Every time he says sorry she accepts it and continues to be with him because she feels like things would be better if she was better. Truthfully, she knows that's not true. That's why she's starting to doubt his words.

Melanie nods her head and slowly moves from him. Before she walks out the room door, she turns around and says goodbye to him. As Melanie walks back home, she wonders if her boyfriend really meant what he had said to her. She's sure he's going to hit her again, but she just wanted to believe he'd meant it for once. Although, we can see you don't always get what you want in life.

A sigh leaves Melanie's mouth as she walks into her house. It's really a shame to dread coming to your own home, the place you're supposed to feel love and peace. When she walks into the living room a look of grimace is on her face. There she stands looking at her mother's horrible boyfriend.

About three years ago, her mom started dating again because she was getting lonely. Four months into searching for someone, she met Bob. He's kind of small, muscular, big nose, brown eyes, and he has wrinkles on his forehead. Although he might have looked decent, Melanie didn't like him from the start. But of course, her mom thought she was living in the past, meaning she thought Melanie wanted her to be hung up on her father forever.

It wasn't that at all truthfully. Melanie knew something was wrong with him. She wanted her mom to be happy obviously, but she also wants her to be happy with someone who will help her get on the right track. They may fight sometimes, but Melanie knows her mother would die for her without a second thought. Bob doesn't help her mother at all when it came to her drinking problem. He actually made her problem worse in Melanie's opinion.

When they see the young girl standing in the living room, Bob rolled his eyes and takes another sip of that "horrid stuff" as Melanie calls it, and her mom Linda stumbles over and hugs her tight, "Hey baaaabbyyy! How was my princess's day?" Linda slurred while her dark, purple hair, fell in Melanie's face. She scrunched her face up at her mother's terrible breath; it smelled horrible. "It was the usual… I was on my way home around 12 or so but, um, Robby picked me up and took me over to his house for a bit." Melanie flashed a fake smile at the end. Linda smiled at her daughter.

Linda squinted her eyes and touched her daughter's cheek lightly, "Baby what happened to your face? Did someone hurt you? Oh my gosh!" Linda asks her daughter.

A lump forms in Melanie's throat, "Um, I got into a fight with a girl... She, um, spat in my face and we really got into it." Melanie said nervously. Linda slowly nodded her head.

Bob on the other hand didn't believe it.

"That's what really happened? You get into a lot of fights. Is that honestly why you were sent home early? Or were you talking back to the teacher again?" Bob snickered.

Melanie scoffed loudly, "No I wasn't. I was up all night taking care of my bloody drunk mother and I got up late. Then the girl started calling me names and pushing me. So know what you're talking about before you say it. You just might make yourself sound like a fool." Melanie finished at the end with a huff, although she was slightly lying at the end. Bob gave her a death glare and quickly stands up from the couch and comes over to reach her, but before he could get anywhere near her Linda put her hands on his chest and held him back.

"Watch that mouth of yours little girl…or I just might have to shut it for you." Melanie rolled her eyes at Bob's meaningless threat.

Linda had enough and then spoke up, "Bob, YOU need to calm down before I kill you," then she turned to her daughter, "and YOU need to watch your mouth before you get him more pissed than he already is. All you do is get people aggravated." She said sternly as she could.

"Well, this wouldn't be happening if he wasn't here and you didn't let him talk to me like this in the first place." Melanie spat out without thinking. Within seconds she felt a fire burning slap across her cheek. Her mom has never hit her. She slowly turned her head around and faced her mother who had sorrowful eyes and a huge smirk on Bob's face, "Baby girl… I-I, I'm so sorry… Please-" But before she could finish Melanie ran upstairs and slammed her door shut.
