Chapter 2: HER MATE: JOHN HARLINGTON AND THE REJECTION.

She could feel her heart racing, and her mind going crazy. Tingles shot all through her body, and she could feel it beginning to become warm. Her breathe started to hitch, as her mind went into a daze. 'MATE!' Something spoke into her mind, making her come out of her daze, and blink a couple of times. As Lauren stood in front of her, waving her hands in front of her face with a worried expression. She finally looked back at her, more confused than anything now. "Um.... Lauren, I’m going home for the rest of the day... I don't... feel that well." she exclaimed, bolting out the door before Lauren could say anything else to her.

Bolting through the front doors of the school, she went straight for her car, tossing her bag inside and sitting in the driver seat. She stared straight ahead, breathing in and out slowly, trying to catch her breath. After finally calming down after a few minutes, she crank her car and just sat there in thought. Why? Why would the moon goddess make him her mate knowing he is probably just going to reject her? None of this makes sense to her. Was her life meant to be this rough? Was she meant to go through this pain she was fixing to go through? She had so many unanswered questions that she did not know who to go to on getting those answers. It is all so stressing to her to the point that she wants to just sit there and cry, and then just go to sleep, and pretend like this never happened.

She saw the front door of the school open, as John bolted out, looking around frantically. 'No doubt, looking for me so he can go ahead and reject me.' She thought to herself. 'You know that is no true! You just cant except it!' Once again, something spoke in her head. Immediately, it made her panic, especially when john looked right at her, and started jogging her way. She began to panic even more. She jolted her car into reverse, and drove off before he could reach her though. She sped down the road, once again, trying to calm herself down. She felt the warm tears trickle down her face. She wiped ferociously at them to get them to go away, but it didn't work. They still spilled over at a fast pace, causing her to drive faster to get home quicker.

Throwing her car in park, and shutting it off, she ran into the house, and straight for her room. "Darling, are you home?" It's still early, is everything okay?" Her mom shouted after her. She didn't respond, closing her door, jumping onto her bed. Burying her face into a pillow and letting out a small scream, that no one in the house could hear. She turned her face to look at the wall that had pictures of her and her family and a few of her and Lauren. She stared at the pictures, in hopes that they would help calm her down, but it didn't. She knows that normally, when you find your mate, you automatically go to them, since it is hard to resist. However, knowing he will reject her, she did not want that embarrassment in front of the school. Right now its not something that she could handle. Everyone would pick on her more than they already do, and she was not ready for that at all. Knowing the rejection is going to happen, she could already feel the pain she did not want to feel. There was a deep sharp pain that was in her heart, and she was sure that was were it was coming from. Nothing else would make her heart like this, so that had to be the reason. She had thought about asking her mother, but she didn't want to drag her into it. Finally giving up on her thoughts, she closed her eyes in hopes to get rid of the pain.

She heard a faint knocking on the door, and then her mothers quiet voice. "Baby girl, it's time for dinner, please come down." She stated. Then faint footsteps were heard, as it got quiet again. She rubbed her sleepy eye's, staring up at the roof. She had not meant to fall asleep, but now the pain was back, and it's only worse this time around. She sighed, forcing herself to sit up, trying to wake up more. One thing is for sure, she needed to find a way to hide the pain from her parents, so they would not bombard her with a bunch of questions. Pretending to be happy sounded like a good plan. She stood, and made her way down to the kitchen, where her parents were waiting. She sat down at the table, putting some food on her plate. Dinner was quiet, as they all ate and enjoyed the peace going through the house until her mother spoke up. "Do you mind telling me why you left school early?" her mother asked, catching her father’s attention. She sat there quietly, pushing around her food, thinking of an answer to give. "I was not really feeling that well." she told them, staring dead into their eyes, hoping they believed her. Technically, it was not a full lie anyways. Her mother sat there, frowning at her, like she didn’t want to believe her.

"Are you sure that was it?" She asked curiously. Liliana looked up and forced a smile. "Yes, I am sure. I will stay in school tomorrow." She stated, slightly excited. Even though it was fake. Her mother just nodded, and they continued eating without another word. On the inside though, Liliana was having a break down. What would happen tomorrow? How bad would she be hurt and embarrassed? Maybe she could just try and avoid him, so she would not have to worry about that conversation. All the thoughts playing through her head made her appetite carve, so instead of eating, she threw her plate away, heading for her room. She took a quick shower and slid into her pajamas, sliding up under the sheets of the bed. She let out a deep breath, and laid her head back on the pillow, once again, staring at the ceiling. She waited for sleep to consume her, but when it didn't, she let out a frustrated growl. Unbelievable, not only did she need to be prepared for tomorrow, but she might end up lacking sleep. That will only make things worse for her. Frustrating, that's what this is. Something she just wanted to ignore.

Finally, after what seemed like forever, she dozed off to sleep. Thankfully, it was not late in the night when she did fall asleep. The buzz of her alarm started sounding, as she let out a loud groan. She reached her arm out, slamming it down on her alarm. To say she was not ready for today, was an understatement. She was dreading today, and what was to come of it. She sat up, staring around in her room. She could pretend to be sick, but her mother would not fall for it, and she knew it. She guessed avoiding him would be her only option. Dragging herself out of bed, she walked over to her large closet, pulling out a t-shirt to go with her shorts. Today, she decided to wear her other pair of black shorts, and a strapless pink shirt, showing off just a tad bit of her belly. You would think people would think that she is hot, but since she isn't "easy", people think otherwise. She brushed her hair out, put a little make up on, and headed downstairs.

Her mom was in the kitchen cooking when she walked in. Her not being in the mood for a conversation, she grabbed an apple, and headed out the door for school. The only person she felt like talking to, was Lauren, and she was hoping to find her early on, so she can go straight to class. The whole way to school, she found herself trying to keep from panicking. Taking deep breaths in and out, she attempted to keep her breathing regulated. The closer the school came into view, the more nervous she got. Hopefully, her plan will work, and she will have nothing to worry about, 'Your plan will not work. You cannot resist and you know it.' That voice again. Where was it coming from? Surely, she is not talking to herself. Nodding her head, she shook it off and focused on driving. She was not sure on the reason, but that voice, wherever it was coming from, comforted her in a way. It made her feel like she was safe in a way. It is odd really, that it pops up randomly, but with the school in view now, she did not have time to worry about it.

She parked her car near the back of the lot, that way if she needed to make a run for it, she was close to the exit. She grabbed her bag and headed straight for her locker, in hopes Lauren would already be there, or be right behind her. She put her stuff in her bag and shut her locker. 'Looks like she is running late.' She thought to herself. She frowned and went ahead to class. 'She will probably just meet me there.' She thought to herself. Dodging everyone in the hallway, she went into class and sat down. It is not normal for Lauren to meet up with her, but maybe she had something to do. She sat and waited, hoping she would be there soon. She smiled when she spotted her walking into the room but dropped her smile when she seen someone walking with her. She frowned. Is that Steve Owling? Johns best friend? Why is she walking with him? She was really confused now. Lauren looked up at her, still trying to keep her smile, even though you could tell its fake.

Lauren walked up to her, Steve following right behind her. "Hey." she spoke nervously.

Lauren still tried to keep her smile the best she could. "Hey, so I found my mate." She spoke enthusiastically.

She tried to smile the best she could. "I see...I am happy for you." She spoke truthfully.

"But... for him not to reject me, I.... I can't hang out with you anymore." She spoke quietly, trailing off, her smile going with it.

She stared at Lauren in disbelief and forced back the tears that threatened to spill. Her only friend, and she just lost her. Instead of speaking, she just nodded her head in understanding, watching as they both walked away to where he sits. What would she do now? She is completely alone and has no one to talk to.

The class period went by quickly, and the bell rang. She sat and waited for everyone to leave, and then gathered her things and walked out the door. Was their friendship not strong enough for her to defend it? Had she done something wrong? She couldn't understand why she turned on her so easily. Was she really that bad to be around? Not paying attention to her surroundings, she was yanked into a classroom, and shoved roughly against the wall, as the door locked, John stood in front of her both arms pinned to the wall on each side of her.

"Mate!" He spoke roughly, as she kept quiet. "We... are going to have to keep this a secret! My reputation cannot be ruined!" He had so much venom in his words, that it hurt. She slipped out of his arms, facing the other way. She felt herself sinking into the darkness, numbing her pain. She shook her head.

"Why don’t you just go ahead and reject me? not like it will hurt!" she spoke coldly.

It stayed silent for a minute before he spoke. "Well, okay then. I, John Harlington of the Southern Pack, reject you, Liliana Loonas of the Southern Pack, as my mate!" He said sternly, grinning like he was proud of himself. she gave a fake grin.

"I, Liliana Loonas, except the rejection from John Harlington." Unlocking the door, she stepped out. Lauren and Steve were standing there, staring at her, wide eyed. She rolled her eyes, walking toward the exit of the school, choosing not to stay for the day.
