Chapter 11: 11
Toby took in a sharp breath his eyes darting open. His eyes glanced over to his savior. Decay, stood his mask utterly featureless and his hands hidden within his shirt. There was a clear tenseness to the man as he hissed, "Did you manage to see the creature's eyes sir? What did this?"
"N-No. . .Just some bright flash and- and-" Something inside Toby twisted in discomfort at the idea of lying to a hero. But he powers through, "I-I heard another mans voice scream something at the creature. It was like the shadows came to life!
CHA CHECK PASSED.
Decay nodded as his mask surveyed the area around him. The shadows danced and growing deeper and darker until Decay lifted a single hand. The shadows quickly still and return to normal as Decay hisses, "Shit- It was Shadow-Walkers. Sounds like they're trying to bait out Specials."
Toby just nodded as Decay tapped the door. It turns to dust and allows him to reach inside and pick up the blood-soaked teacher and grunt, "Can you walk?" He gives a nod as he begins patting his chest.
"T-The super. He touched me with that golden glow and… It made me feel so much better," He says ignoring the notification of a successful check. He couldn't stop lying. That side quest weighed too heavy on him. His family was too precious to him. Without warning the shadows to scream and lunge forward. Decay tosses Toby forward, who rolls with it and gets as much distance as he can.
Decay reaches down to his hip pulling out a dagger and raising an open palm. His words burnt at Toby's ears as he hissed, "Decay!" The Shadow's momentum is stopped mid-air causing it to fall to the ground. Its body turning into some sort of dark liquid as Decay threw his dagger. The weapon stabs the goo, eliciting a screech from it as black ichor pour from the wound as it blended back into the shadows within seconds!
Fear welled up in Toby as he began to run. The other shadow begins swirling across the ground and quickly pursuing him. His teeth grit as he picks up the pace running fast as his strange body could muster yet the Shadow was to fast as spikes shot up from the darkness. Impaling his leg and causing him to slam into the ground with a heavy thud.
WARNING. LOW HP! -10 HP! 60/180!
Decay, closed the distance in a second pulling another dagger from a small pouch hidden beneath his cape. He raises his hand aiming it at the shadows and growling, "Decay!" The creature's ichor begins to burn a bright red along the edges of it. As if some unseen flame was consuming it and turning it to ashes and dust.
It recoils and tries to retreat into the shadows but the glow follows it. The second Shadow blurring up from the ground and wrapping around his wrist. Decay cries out in pain as the Shadow drove spikes into his arm and yanked it downwards with enough force for a sicking crack to fill the air.
Toby quickly gets back up and keeps running blood pouring from his leg as Decay dropped his dagger and held a palm over the shadow and screamed, "Decay!" The Shadow recoils and screeches. Its body burning to some unseen force and letting Decay tap the button on his hip. The button glows red as he quickly darts into the light leaving the dagger alone on the ground as he pulled out his last one.
His eyes turned to Toby who had already reached a street light. His eyes flicker upwards spotting a shadow crawling up the back of the post and reaching the top. The gooey entity cutting apart the metal pole with ease before descending upon Toby as he screamed, "From above!" He darts back into the shadows only for the second one to spring its trap.
The moment he stepped out of the light the second one darted up. Going straight through the soles of Decay's shoes and stabbing into his legs. The burning embers around the edges of its flesh are now gone as it screeches out in rage. Blood drips down Decay's hand as the creature wraps around his leg.
He opens his palm and takes in a deep breath before screaming, "DECAY!" This time, the decay does not limit itself to the shadow. Like a physical force it slams into his own legs stripping it of flesh and down to the bone, right below the knee. The Shadows were caught off guard, as it tried weaving itself upwards through the flesh yet the sheer blast began to decay and burn away at the Shadow. It screeched as it was turned into ash and dust.
Decay falls down with a cry of pain. His hand clutched his thigh, the cut already cauterized. Meanwhile, Toby glances up wincing as he rips off the remains of his shirt and throws it in the air. The goo slams into it and begins to flail about as Decay screamed, "Run!"
Toby didn't need to be told twice as he took off. Decay gritted his teeth as he raised his palm once more. His gloves burnt and decayed, and the palms beneath grew a bright red as he grits his teeth and declares, "Unrelenting Decay!"
The last of the Shadow creature screamed out in pain and fear. Thrashing and tearing at the clothes it was entangled and stuck to as Toby stopped running. His eyes turning to the screeching entity as pity and fear- Before his skull screamed in pleasure as all his wounds lifted.

He collapsed to the ground clutching his skull as his body squirmed in pleasure. His mouth opened in a groan as he tensed and grit his teeth soon after praying for an end to this god-forsaken day!
