One day later
I awoke to a painful ache in my side and leg and when I opened my eyes I saw an IV sticking into my arm. Panic started to surge since I was terrified of needles. A lady with gentle eyes and a nice smile came up to me and said.
"Glad to see you awake dear. You had all of us in suspense. It took a lot to bring you around but we had faith." I stared at her with a blank expression. What?
"Oh dear. I forgot to tell you my name. I'm so sorry, I'm just really used to everyone knowing who I am. My name is doctor May Stevens. But you can call me May."
I nodded my head, unsure of what to do with this information. I noticed that I was in a light blue hospital gown. Then I noticed that I wasn't wearing anything underneath it. Self consciously I ran a hand down my right leg and took a deep breathe, trying to calm my nerves. As I breathed in I caught a whiff of that wonderful winter pine smell.
Not a second later a woman burst into the room. The door hit the wall and I winced at the bang. The door creaked shut the hinges bouncing up and down, it was a miracle that it didn't break. I looked a May and she merely rolled her eyes like she was watching a child throw a temper tantrum. It was a very ballsy move considering the anger and pure power radiating off of her. Definitely of Alpha blood.
"Why the fuck was I not told that she was up!" She yelled pointing at me. I tried to make myself even smaller than usual, if that was even possible with my 5'3 frame.
"Riv-" the doctor tried in vain to intercede.
"No! I don't want to hear it! I go to bed for thirteen hours, one more than what you wanted! I eat a big meal and shower. And the first thing I hear on the mind link is 'oh Debrah did you know that the patient in the hospital wing is awake? Oh shit! Doctor Stevens said I wasn't supposed to tell anyone that.' Like what the fuck!"
"River" she said louder.
"I stood in the same goddamn spot for...I don't know how many days but that's besides the point. And you didn't think to tell me!?"
"River hon, I'm going to need you to leave or calm down, you're scaring the patient." Only then did the woman named River look in my direction. Her face softened immediately and she backed up a few feet, something like guilt in her eyes.
River muttered something under her breath that made May narrow her eyes in a dangerous slant. After realizing that I was not the cause of the woman's anger I looked at her more carefully.
She had dark brown hair that ended right below her shoulders and a sharp jawline. The only makeup she wore was mascara to highlight her already super long lashes that she hid under a black ball cap. She was wearing a silver chain and black sports bra, sweatpants and biker gloves. My eyes roamed up to her stomach and chest. I saw perfect (by my definition) breast and abs. Fricking abs! How the heck did she have abs? I did a quick double check to make sure I want crazy, but sure enough there was hard, defined abs on her stomach. Not some faint shadows, a fudging 6-pack. I looked up and saw her smirking at me, her expression said everything; 'like what you see?'. I felt my face turn crimson as my eyes shot down to my feet.
She laughed and it was the most beautiful sound I'd ever heard. Sturdy like a mountain but covered in flowers to make it feminine.
"I'll take her to my room now." My head moved so fast I thought I got whiplash. What!?
"I don't think that is the best idea."
"Why not? And give me a good reason. Not some medical bullshit. She looks fine. Her leg is healed and she's not bleeding, the only scar is over her hip. Plus I would be able to sense if she wasn't feeling well." She said it calmly enough but her fingers twitched, irritated, at her waist.
The doctor sighed clearly fed up with River. "Alpha you know damn well that she can't leave just ye-"
"Wait Alpha?" I interrupted, intrigued. I knew that she had alpha blood but to be and female alpha was something else.
"Well almost and technically." Now I was confused.
"What she means is that she is going to be mated in month and that is when she becomes Luna, her betrothed will get the alpha title. She hasn't found her mate yet so it had to be an arranged marriage." I felt my heart drop. What the heck?
"Axel doesn't even count as a wolf let alone a mate. And he's a mother fucking, cock sucking little son of a -"
"River!!"
"What? It's damn well true!" She said indignantly. The corners of my mouth quirked up. She looked over at me and the look on her face reminded me of someone who had just been given a present that they had wanted for their whole life.
She caught my gaze and held it, her eyes shining bright with love and knowing. Like she already knew what I was thinking. Wait, where did the love come from? She doesn't even know me.
"Anyways, why do you want her with you?" May spoke up.
We broke our gaze and turned to May." River took a deep breath and stood taller. Almost as if she was preparing for a battle.
"May, you have to swear on the moon goddess that you will not tell a soul what I'm about to say." May raised her chin, showing that she was worthy of making such a promise.
"I swear to the moon goddess I won't tell a single soul."
"Ok. Well then, I'm a lesbian."
I sat there gaping like a fish out of water. It was rare for most wolves to be of the lgbtq+ community, but it was unheard of for someone of the alpha bloodline.
May snorted. "That's it? River I practically raised you. I'm literally you're best friend even thought I'm like thirty years older than you. I already knew this."
"Well you come second to Archer."
"Ah yes. Archer is a sweet boy, I haven't seen him in a bit he should come over." A wave of jealousy washed over me but I pushed it down. One I didn't even know her, two, she wouldn't even like Archer, she was gay.
"Also that wasn't the main thing." River continued.
"Alright. Hit me."
"You're patient is my mate."
