Chapter 3: The Story Begins

"Are you kidding me Tobias, you're going to skip out on the biggest celebration of the year!" The man yelling had a look of deep disappointment marring his otherwise handsome face. He had milky pale skin, shining sapphire blue eyes, his face was full of straight lines and commanding angles giving him a proud powerful look, his hair was jet-black and perfect with not a strand out of place. He stood at a little over six feet tall with broad shoulders, narrow hips, and a figure that clearly showed that he was extraordinarily strong. The man to whom he was yelling was identical in every way, down to every last detail. Well almost every detail, as his identical twin brother was wearing a gold crown on his head and a grin on his face.

"Tomas I am completely serious! I need you to fill in for me at today's festivities I cannot ma--" He explained to his brother until he was cut off.

"Goddammit Tobi, what could be more important than the one hundredth anniversary, today's the day we mark our continued freedom, we honor Kail and all the soldiers that lost their lives on this day and pray for continued prosperity. The King has always been the leader of the celebrations, every year, FOR THE LAST ONE HUNDRED YEARS!" Tomas was growing more frustrated with his brother as time went on, he just could not fathom why his brother would choose now, of all times, to be so irresponsible.

"Tommy listen, this is not just some silly stunt I want to pull, I am not a child anymore, I am king now and I know my duties well, I just cannot be there today."

"What could possibly be more important Tobi, what? I really wish to know what could possibly make you turn your back on the most important day of our history."

"Well if you would calm down and stop interrupting me for a damn minute, I might be able to tell you." Tobias smiled at his brother fondly, nothing would be able to upset him this day, not even his brother and his tendency to treat him like a naughty child. Even though Tobias was older than Tomas by a good ten minutes Tomas had always been the more responsible one growing up.

"Well, go ahead then." Tomas grumbled to his brother impatiently, this only made Tobias' smile widen.

"I'm going to be a father." Tobias said.

"Well that's obvious," Tomas snorted. "Anyone who has seen the queen in the last few months would be able to notice that, even a blind man would notice that she was with child. But I don't see why that means you get to shirk your responsibilities and go running off on one of your silly little jaunts."

"You misunderstand Tommy, I am going to be a father today." Tomas looked confused at Tobias' words for a moment before understanding dawned on his face.

"You mean Vivianne is in labor? She's going to have the baby today?" Tomas gasped then laughed with joy. "I'm going to be an uncle? Finally! I cannot wait to meet my nephew and teach him how to be a proper man, much more well behaved than his father ever was." Tomas laughed joyously again.

"Hey, I resent that," Tobias said grinning, "I was a perfect angel as a child."

"Oh yes, so perfect, nearly giving mother and the maids a heart attack as you scaled the kitchens rooftop and proceeded over to the garden just to jump into the pond."

"The only true way to know the castle is to cover every inch of it. If they had seen half the stuff I did they probably would have died, but that's why I was an angel, I never let them see what I was doing."

"Oh, sure, whatever you say Tobi, you were perfect."

"I was, and anyway there's no guarantee that the baby will be a boy, it could be a girl and she would be as beautiful as her mother." Tobias said fondly, he didn't care whether Vivianne gave him a son or a daughter, as long as his family and his country was safe and happy, he was content.

"Well either way, you should be going, take care of your wife for today brother, I will take care of the celebration."

"You don't mind Tommy, really? I appreciate it, and please do not tell anyone, the doctor has already been notified and we have two personal maids assisting, but we wish to surprise everyone later, what a wonderful way to celebrate this day in the future but with the birthday celebration of the new prince or princess."

"I think it is a sign for sure, what with Vivianne being the great-great-granddaughter of Kail Jeffries himself, the man who made this day possible, the man who rid the world of Eion's tyrannical thirst for power, to have the day of his remembrance be the birth of this child, that is momentous. Something amazing is in store for that child, I am sure of it."

"I think so too, Tommy, I really do." And with a final smile and nod to his twin brother the King took off down the hall running as quickly as he could to his wife's side, he did not want to miss the birth of his first child, the start to a new chapter in his life.

When Tobias entered the room, he saw his wife propped up on the feather bed, she was sweaty, and her cheeks were flushed. She was obviously in pain, but she still looked as beautiful as ever. He had loved her for the last ten years, ever since he was seventeen and fell into her lap, literally.
