Chapter 2: Prologue

"Ethereal, the name meaning 'too perfect to be true', is now the name of a tiny planet. A long time ago, thousands of years when the planet had only just formed, the beings who created this space gifted it its name so the world would hopefully be absolutely perfect. Along with the first human, the strange beings granted the planet thriving organisms and colorful skies. The planet prospered and the occupied space grew due to the organisms' greed.

This world had a variety of species and biomes that were everlasting and unchanging. There was a deep dark sea that stretched far but never cut into the other biomes, it was positioned towards one side of the small planet. The second biome was a huge forest with small open spaces in between, the huge elm trees spread out on another side of the planet opposite of the sea. The third strange biome consisted of long underground tunnels that were hidden by barren land. Second to last was the winding clouds that soared overhead the rest, creatures roamed the skies and made it their home. Lastly the most deserted was the gloomy and dense area of leafless deciduous trees as if it were always cold and never rained to help the trees grow. Humans traveled across these biomes, mapping the land and spreading their thoughts to each other.

Eventually the beings, now worshipped Celestials, granted the human species a certain gift; essence. Although the humans and other organisms could travel freely across Ethereal, their lifespan was short because of the world's strong power. The essence the Celestials provided made it so the worldly beings could stay longer and flourish in the world's power instead of dying at merely 30 years old.

After years and years Celestials grew bored watching the tiny beings laugh and parade with each other. So they devised a plot to create new beings and place them on Ethereal with the intent to have them cross paths and fight. And that's what happened, a new essence was created and distributed to all the human beings.

The world was thrown into constant battle, the pure and truthful humans were granted different essences than the ones who were greedy and ungrateful. They started classifying themselves as different beings and even started changing shape and gaining new features. The new essence gave them powers beyond their understanding, Celestials were not very interactive with their creations but provided them with information on certain aspects of the power.

One of the new forms were Angels with large white wings and varieties of bright hair and eye colors, along with Demons who almost always had short black horns and blood red eyes. These two quarreled the most and often got into fights but the world was still somewhat peaceful considering. Soon gigantic creatures were created called dragons, causing mass panic to arise. Most people with a basic understanding of the essences were terrified of what was to become of them if they made one wrong move against the more powerful essence users.

Realizing the panic driven into the population, everyone started to travel their separate paths, traveling with same-type essence users. The weaker users started to also change and again separated from each other. Some started creating nations alone, only allowing the same beings into their territory.

After so many years of avoiding and fighting each other for land, five leaders rose to the task of keeping peace.

Rinu the dragon lord claimed his territory in the barren land and underground tunnels as the "Dungeon."

Queen Talova ruling all sea life claimed the huge sea, naming it the "Abyss."

Elf Prince Rydel, along with the Fairy Priestess and Orc Lord, claimed the forests, "Aurora."

Angel Patriarch Cadin and his flying fellows took the bright skies, "Mammatus."

And lastly Demon King Azzor, he and his companions took the gloomy wasteland, naming it the "Underworld."

As the five left to their new nations, Celestials grew very disappointed but did not interfere any further. They always have someone keep watch but they no longer cared for the affairs of Ethereal and moved on, letting the puny mortals try to descend into a Celestial, which is borderline impossible and no one on Ethereal even knows how to do it, let alone try."

"Class today was so boring, right Lucas?" A small youth asks another to his side as they walk down the busy streets to go home. His blood red eyes stared at his friend and his white hair swayed in the quiet breeze.

"No way! I thought it was cool." The other boy, Lucas, responds. His soft red eyes stare back fiercely and his black hair bounced as he jumped to a halt.

"Scott, you're always bumming me out. I also thought it was cool." A tiny girl says from ahead, walking quicker than her friends. Her curly, light brown hair jiggled as she also halts in place, staring daggers with her hazel colored eyes.

"Well, I'm sorry but that story couldn't be real. If it is then where are those places, huh?" The first boy, Scott, bites back.

"But.. teacher wouldn't lie, right Hannah?" Lucas asks, tears brimming his eyes on his small chubby face.

"No, he wouldn't. Scott's just stupid." The girl, Hannah, surges forward to stop Lucas from crying, as does Scott.

"Yeah! I'm just stupid, our teacher would never lie." Scott says hurriedly, not realizing he and Hannah had insulted himself.

"Hehe, okay." Lucas giggles, sniffling quickly and wiping his eyes fiercely.

Hannah and Scott laugh along as they continue their way to their houses, unsuspecting of the eyes following them.

Watching the children walk while laughing, a mysterious figure lurks, waiting patiently to pounce on it's prey. They watch the kids get home, then disappear into the night.
