Chapter 3: Chapter 2

Officer Jason Blackwell sat on his chair with a sigh, he was tired and frustrated, and for years he had been on her case, trying to catch her but with no luck. ‘Rose’ the name went back and forth in his head like a bad song he tried to forget but it wouldn’t go away, normally she wasn’t supposed to be his problem since she was based in Africa but she sold drugs here in America too and since then the FBI and police had been on her case. Her pictures were littered over his table, her in different places where security cameras had been lucky enough to catch a glimpse of her, nobody had seen her full face, nobody except him and if he ever mentioned how to a single soul, he would be fired immediately. He could still remember that day, four years ago…

“Stupid shoes” he muttered angrily, he was only a trainee, stuck with a senior officer to be his guardian, Officer David Hunter was a cold hearted son of a bitch, he was to be the one to train him and he had sent him to patrol over the arcade to make sure everyone was ‘safe’, he rolled his eyes, more like making sure a kid wasn’t forgotten in the ball pit. He wasn’t an idiot, he knew that Hunter hated his guts but he couldn’t complain or he would be kicked out of the system.

He sighed before walking again, that was when he saw her, she was bent over the pool table with a group of men watching her, her hands were curled around the cue while aiming at a ball, the tight fitting shirt she wore rose a little exposing her flat stomach and a tattoo of a rose, all his thinking went southward and all he could think about was the way she pursed those nice lips in concentration and the way her black jeans clung nicely around her hips, damn they were nice hips…what on earth was he thinking? He thought before trying to walk around them , since they weren’t doing anything wrong but then she shot at the ball and looked up at him and gave him a slow smile, a smile that paralysed him, what in bloody tarnation was wrong with him?, he hadn’t behaved this way to a woman since high school.

“Why don’t you guys continue without me?” she said in a smooth velvety voice, there were voices of disagreement but she ignored them and dropped her pool stick before walking towards him, she walked with confidence and elegance like she owned the world

“Hey officer…” she drawled “I really hope you’re not here to arrest me” he stood there motionless before all his senses returned back from their vacation in the pacific and he smirked

“I really should, those clothes you’re wearing should be prohibited, and you’re causing a major disruption in the male community”

“Well that’s a shame, I was really hoping to catch the eye of one lucky guy tonight”

He chuckled before replying “well you’re in luck, I happen to know a guy that you may have caught in your sticky web and he would really like to know your name”

“Rose” she answered simply, offering no more information “and I really hope that lucky guy can show me a good time tonight” she continued with a wink

“The name’s Jason” he said offering her his arm “and I assure you, he can really show you a good time”.

Two hours later, they were officially exhausted, he had shown her around the arcade, playing various games and eating enough cotton candy and chocolate to last them for a month. They sat together at the fountain outside while staring at the stars, the laughter of kids surrounding them

“I really had a good time tonight” she said dreamily “I don’t get a lot of times like this” she continued sadly,

He frowned “and why not, you can always take a break anytime you want”

“It’s not as easy as you make it seem”

“why not?”, no answer, he looked at her intently, he could tell that she was African and she looked like she carried the whole world on her shoulders, she had to relieve some stress and he swore he would be the one to help her “you know…” he started huskily as he held her hand “I can help you have some more fun tonight but all you have to do is trust me” he didn’t need a psychologist to tell him that the word ‘trust’ was a heavy word for her, what the hell had happened to her?, she looked at him with warm brown eyes and perfect pink lips, her gaze was calculating and her posture stiff before she relaxed and smiled

“I can’t find a problem with that” she said while entwining their fingers together, that was all the assurance he needed before swooping down and taking her lips in his, the kiss started out gentle and slow before it turned passionate and demanding.

Jason slowed the kiss down before he did something that would give the kids nightmares, “let’s go somewhere private” he whispered huskily, his brain still foggy, she merely nodded as he dragged her across the amusement park towards the parking lot, Hunter could go to hell, this was his night. He took her towards his Cadillac and kissed her again before getting in the car and driving to his house, a night of passion awaiting them.

He had woken up alone on his bed the next day, her perfume still on his pillows and a single rose laid on a picture of both of them that they had taken at the arcade the day before, he had his arms around her as she kissed his cheek and a goofy smile was spread on his face. If he closed his eyes, he could still feel the softness of her skin, her scent like roses, the taste of her lips, the way her eyes gleamed underneath him as he rocked her… a loud moan escaped his lips as a knocking on the door brought him back to reality. He quickly rearranged himself

“Come in” he answered gruffly as his personal assistant Sarah Lodge came into the room

“You okay boss man?” she asked in her fading British accent and a lifted a brow

“Yeah, just tired, really”

“You look tired, why don’t you go home. I’ll clear up for the night.”

“You’re a life saver Sarah, thanks a lot”

“No problem boss man, I do the best I can” she said as she walked out the door.

He laid his head on his table with a heavy sigh, that woman was messing his head and in a weird way, he was allowing her. He arranged his table before carrying his bag and his brown leather jacket that was draped over his chair. He walked out the door and locked it behind him

“Good night Sarah” he called out as he walked out of the hallway “good night boss man” she replied.

He walked out of the building and towards his Cadillac, the same car he had carried the woman that turned his life upside down. He drove towards his home in silence, he finally reached his destination after the short drive. His bulldog, Roger greeted him with a bark and a wag of his tail, he gave him the raw steak he had bought on his way home while patting his head softly. He stood up and went inside his house and towards his room, he wasn’t hungry so he could forget dinner, he stripped off his clothes and entered into the warm shower. Thirty minutes later, he was out, dressed in cotton pyjamas as he walked towards his bed and fell on it with a groan, his brown hair wet and his blue eyes tired. He opened one of his bedside drawers and brought out a picture, the picture of both of them at the amusement park, four years ago, he closed his eyes with a sigh, he would find her, he wouldn’t stop and he would find his Queen.
