Chapter 15: The Chu Mansion
Alliana suddenly missed being engulfed in dim lighting while the fragrant mist of the scented candles filled the mansion. Such a relaxing ambiance would surely make her feel more comfortable and lively.
Alliana must have gotten used to her third sister's antics and found comfort in a lit candle.
She smiled and rang the bell on the table.
A few seconds later, the head maid bowed in front of her and waited for her order.
"Clean this up. I want to switch off all the lights in the mansion and lit up all the scented candles."
"Yes, Eldest Miss."
The head maid withdrew without further question. She then re-appeared later with junior maids.
The junior maids silently took all the plates and the untouched food from the table, while the head maid stood at the side to supervise them.
Seeing the maids, Alliana remembered the poor maid she had sent to prison.
Out of boredom, she chatted with the head maid.
"What time was that little thief escorted away?"
The head maid bowed and answered her. "It was two hours later after the Eldest Miss left the mansion."
It was chaotic that time. The little maid kept shouting that she did not steal anything and everything was a gift from the Eldest Miss. She had even scratched the policemen's face.
The junior maids who was cleaning the table heard their conversation and slightly trembled. They also witnessed that scene.
The mastermind of that ruthless show was the Eldest Miss sitting now on this table.
"Two hours? Charlie is getting slower. Usually, it only takes an hour at most," Alliana thoughtfully commented. She cupped her chin with a hand, the slender fingers tapping in a graceful flick.
"The head butler is busy with the Madam's affairs. I apologize in his behalf for doing it late." The head maid's bow deepened.
Alliana just raised an eyebrow lazily. She was not in the mood to reproach the head maid or Charlie right now.
Besides, her mother Annie was keeping their maids and butlers busy for her upcoming marriage. It was understandable.
Alliana waved her hand. "Forget it." Then she sighed. "Are the scented candles already lit?"
The head maid: "They are done in the living room and the hallway, Eldest Miss."
Alliana stood up. Her royal blue silken nightdress with black lace was revealed.
"Did you use the scented candles like the ones in Angel's room?" Alliana particularly liked the scented candles that Angel recommended.
Their third sister had a peculiar taste in fashion and in everything. Angel, unlike her name, had taken a liking to dark themes. Because of their third sister, this mansion had saved a lot on their electric bills for years.
If the light was out, they would only use the candles.
Even if the light was on, her third sister would convince them to spend the night in a 'spooky' atmosphere, and still lit up the candles. Since the two elder sisters wanted to spoil their strange third sister, they always accepted her whims.
Years after that, they naturally adapted to this mode and felt more comfortable in a dark mansion filled with candles.
The scent and the dim lighting was their impression of home.
Even their mother, Annie, had no choice but to rebuild the entire main mansion into a fire resistant facility.
"Yes, Eldest Miss."
"Alright. Since I am alone today, I will go and enjoy this scenery without Angel. She will surely be jealous of me. I have to take pictures and send it to her."
'Hmph, that girl dared to go and have fun on her university trip, leaving me here alone? I'll make sure to use all of the new batch of candles she just bought.'
Her naturally red lips curved into an enchanting smile, her eyes curving up with a mischievous light.
"Use all the candles! You can even put some by the staircase," Alliana ordered enthusiastically.
She would have the maids take picturesque photos of Angel's scented candles then send it to her third sister.
Alliana giggled.
The maids followed her orders. All the junior maids had been working for more than a year already in the Chu mansion while the senior maids had been working for more than five to ten years. They naturally knew the strange hobbies of the young misses. Even if the eldest ordered to have a circus inside the mansion, they would not be surprised and would only accept it like it was a normal thing to do.
Working in the Chu mansion which was known for being cursed, the maids and butlers who entered this mansion have been prepared for any unexpected situation.
