Chapter 1: Prologue

I didn't mean to activate the trap…

The air turned black all around me. I wandered in darkness for what felt in my mind an eternity.

If it wasn't for icy fingers grabbing my arm and pulling me towards an opening, I would have stayed there, regretting ever asking my friend for help. I hope she wasn't pulled into this. I was enough.

I felt my eyelids heavy and it took me quite an effort to adjust to the light around me. I was in an unfamiliar place and someone was talking to me.

He was handsome; his sparkly black hair and dangerous golden eyes made him seem like a predator. Was I still on the moon?

I clasped my head between my arms and took a deep breath before looking at him again. He took the air available with his charisma and confident aura.

I knew other races existed but I have never seen one before. Was he a human? The human also had the charm but he was far too intimidating for being a human.

"If you think that your act will fool me, you are wrong in that, my Heart," a wide grin spread on his lips.

"Did you listen to what I just said? Read the contract and sign it! I don't need your opinion; you are only an employee. Get this in your head and Don't be greedy for other things!"

His words swam in my head like fish. I felt over the moon looking at the Earth. I giggled and examined the papers in front of me.

The strange word I never expected to see in my life yanked me back to reality. A surge of memories flashed over my head as I read the sentences. It was like I watched a movie with a bucket of popcorn in front of me.

'A marriage'. It was a marriage in the shape of a contract.

"Let me think for a moment! I will answer you shortly," I remained as professional as I was taught.

To collect my thoughts and separate my life from hers, I had to pull myself for a while from my surroundings. I forced my eyes on the contract turning the papers after some time to show him I was reading.

I actually possessed the body of a young fresh-graduated journalist who came to Paris for opportunities. She lived in a small village and her family still remained there; she only came with her best friend Darcie LYNN.

Mainly, as he said, this was a contract and I was his employee.

My eyes darted on the wedding dress on me; I wished I could see myself in a mirror but so sad, the man was here. My husband for now and his name was Andre Rousseau.

This moment was meant for us to discuss the contract and put some rules. Furthermore, my name was Anais of the Cross. She had some goals and a lovable marriage was one of them.

However, she accepted being with him for a year for mutual benefits; he will get a wife for a year and she will get opportunities to establish her life in Paris, the city of love.

"The most important thing for me is that you take care of all my expenses including my family during all the time we are married. It isn't much to ask for since I don't get anything after the divorce, my Love," I smiled.

"Of course, my Heart," he smirked. "Since I allowed it but Put in your mind that you can't use more than the budget I located for you. Also, you will get your own place where to live, you won't come to my house even when you have something important to say.

I will give you my private number but you don't get to call me unless it is something important; something that has me as the main character not you. Are we clear, mon ange?"

I grabbed his hand, smiling softly, and drew a circle, a square and a triangle. "I promise I will stay true to this contract. A circle to seal the promise. A square to leave doubts where to slip into corners and a triangle to look at each other all the time.

One for me, one for the promise and one for the respectable husband I have. And yes, I understand very well the context."

He brought my hand to his mouth and kissed it.

"A vow carved upon a stone plate. An oath to embody intrepidly and relentlessly, you state that you are in no shape to turn back on the contract," a hint of amusement made his eyes sparkle, the burning fire of confidence illuminating the shadows he made me feel he stood in for a while.

"I thought you were a gold-digger but you give me a different impression today. Did you fall in love with me? Don't shake and waver. My love is so expensive to have."

Instead of taking my hand back like a young charmed Lady, I put my other hand over his maintaining a wide smile showing my teeth; a smile was important in anything. Since this was my first mission, I got to understand who my client was.

"Don't worry that much about it! I have enough love for both you and me."

He laughed retracting his hand back. I never heard of the likes of us possessing other bodies. In our field of work, we were moon saints and our boss who was a woman now was called the moon goddess.

We are spirits who study since birth to value our work on the Earth. Like the fresh-graduated journalist, I was also a freshly graduated moon saint. I had the fear to lose my first mission and returning to being a student again. No one wants to return being one when you just finished with your books and exams.

I was given the first mission and the man in front of me wasn't the one in it; now, I had to look for my dear werewolf to put him in contact with his dear mate.

Literally, no one knows of our existence. The more we conducted our missions successfully, the more we had the chance to grow in ranks and have more complicated missions.

We had more benefits but the rewards differed from one saint to another. Furthermore, my identity had to stay a secret.

For now, I needed to get to the apartment where Anais lives and organize my thoughts. I had her life in my hands and I didn't want to ruin her goals and I had a werewolf to find since I didn't want to ruin my mission.

"Seriously," he lounged on his chair and stared at me. "You have something different today. Something about you isn't the same and I hate not knowing. What did you do? Did you go to some fake sorceress or what?"

"Why do you say that?" I showed him my most welcoming stance. "I am as normal as I am usually," after saying that, I realized I acted like myself, not the Anais but me. "I showed you such a bad impression when we first met, Let's start from scratch."

"Does that include even the kiss we shared in front of everyone? Unlike us who know clearly, we don't know each other. Others believe we love one another and we need to keep that.

Therefore, you are required to be here once a month, when the family usually has a gathering. Do you understand, my Love? You can't turn back. "
