Chapter 26: Coyote Creek
A few days later
Brooks was in workout clothes talking to Miguel and Hawk in the Dojo when Johnny walked in. Brooks looked over and nodded, Johnny nodded and Miguel walked over to him. Brooks started talking to Hawk and Johnny said "Alright, get changed we're starting soon."
The class was confused and Hawk said "I thought we were doing training outside today?" Johnny said "What?" Kreese said "I thought it was time to separate the men from the boys.. and the girls too I suppose." Johnny said "What are you talking about?" Kreese smirked and said "Coyote Creek."
Johnny looked at Kreese and said "I don't think they're ready for that." Kreese said "I'm sure there's only one way to find out." Johnny was silent and Hawk said "We're ready Sensei, we want to prove ourselves." Johnny looked at the class and glanced at Brooks before saying "Alright then what are you waiting for, let's go."
The class cheered and Brooks put his sunglasses on as he said "I can fit 3 more in my car." Lily said "Your car seats 5." Brooks smirked and said "Tory doesn't count, moron." before walking out the door, Tory smiled and followed him. Johnny shook his head and Kreese said "The kid's got an attitude."
Johnny said "He needs a beating is what he needs." Kreese had an idea and smirked saying "I got something." Johnny looked at him dubiously.
A while later
The class was in two lines and Kreese handed out colored bandanas, but...
Brooks was in a line by himself and had a white headband. Kreese chuckled and said "Gentlemen, Ladies. Welcome to Coyote Creek. You've been split into 3 teams. The goal is to capture as many headbands as you can from the other side. Today they are not your friends, they're not your brothers, nor are they your loved ones. They are the enemy."
Miguel said "What about Brooks?" Kreese said "The third party. A golden bird so to speak. You capture his headband and your team wins." Everyone focused on Brooks, who cracked his knuckles with a sinister smirk. Kreese said "Last team standing, wins."
Miguel added "How do we get the headbands?" Kreese said "By any means necessary. No rules." Johnny added "Use your judgement, this is just a training exercise." Kreese nodded and said "Correct, but remember. This is your life..." as he held up a headband and added "You lose it, you die."
Suddenly Chubbs ran over and said "Hey guys! Sorry I'm late, traffic on the 118 was a bitch. I put Coyote creek into the Nav, nothing came up." Johnny looked at him and said "What did you do to yourself?" Chubbs took off his sunglass and chuckled as he said "I decided to flip the script, Hawk-style. Mad respect, bro."
He stroked his braided beard stick thing and said "Here to for, you can call me Stingray." Brooks burst out laughing and said "I respect it Chubbs.. Er, I mean Stingray! Hhahahaha" Johnny shook his head and said "You got Chubbs." Kreese rolled his eyes and sighed "Lucky me..."
The class soon separated into the woods and they all looked at Brooks standing still. Brooks looked at them and licked his lips as he said "It's a good day to hunt." before disappearing into the woods. Miguel, Tory, Hawk, and Lily smirked and disappeared into the woods after him.
Brooks was walking in the woods and whistling as he went along, texting on his phone. He was looking down and the leaves rustled next to him, he didn't even look up and shot his leg out to the side before looking over at Assface on the ground. Brooks walked over and clicked his tongue saying "Come on, Assface. I expect better from you, go."
Assface said "Go?" Brooks kicked him and said "Hurry up! Catch and release! Go run!" Assface ran into the woods and disappeared as Brooks chuckled and put his phone in his pocket before muttering "Now where is that Porker of mine..." as he disappeared into the woods.
Brooks peeked out from a tree and saw Tory fighting Lily, he smirked and slowly walked over, hiding behind the trees. He kicked a rock and hit a tree on the opposite side of him. The girls turned to look and saw nothing.
Brooks charged forward and swept his legs out, knocking Tory and Lily to the ground before locking Lily's neck in between his legs and leaning back on Tory's stomach. He rested his elbow on her chest and propped his cheek on his hand as he said "Found you, Porky."
Tory sighed and said "So soon?" Brooks snickered and said "Don't underestimate my nose, cutie." Tory smiled and Lily made a vomiting sound as she said "Gross, go flirt somewhere else." Brooks looked at her and grabbed Tory's wrists, that were reaching for his headband. He pinned her wrists to the ground and said "Give up, Rebel. Your headbands are mine today."
Lily said "In your dreams, Loverboy. Do it! Now!" Brooks looked around and saw both teams surrounding him, Tory, and Lily. Brooks sneered and said "A cooperative effort?" Lily flipped backwards, getting out of the lock before kicking at Brooks and saying "A temporary truce."
Lily's kick would hit Tory if he moved, Brooks eyes turned cold and he wrapped his arm around Tory and spinning, dodging the kick before saying "Watch it, fake princess. Sacrifices aren't necessary." Tory looked at Brooks and made a small smile.
Brooks picked her up and bit off her headband as he said with a grin "You came for me..." he looked around and put Tory down as he finished "But did you bring enough soldiers?" Lily got into a fighting position and backed away slowly.
Brooks said "Go back, Porker. You're out." Tory pouted and left, leaning on a tree and getting ready to watch the fight.
Brooks looked and said "Where's Miguel, Hawk, and Stingray?" Lily was silent and Brooks muttered "Not here?" before smirking and moving towards Lily, punching out towards her face. Lily blocked and said "Attack!"
Brooks looked around at the collapsing students and grinned slightly. He crouched down and shot his leg out before spinning around, throwing dead leaves all over the place. Brooks sprang up and punched Lily in the stomach before swinging his leg over and hitting her in the face, sending her to the ground.
He picked up her headband and wrapped hers and Tory's around his neck as he moved to Assface and used his legs to sweep before punching him in the face and grabbing his headband. He looked around and muttered "8 left.." before rolling to the side, dodging the stomp.
He got up and caught the fist flying at him before pulling back and making the guy take the incoming punch to his face. Brooks stomped on his knees and took the headband as he was falling to the ground and immediately ducking under a wild swing.
Brooks tackled the swinging guy as he muttered "7.." they both fell to the ground and Brooks headbutted him before biting off the headband and somersaulting over him muttering in a muffled voice "6.."
Brooks spit the headband out and wrapped the three new ones around his neck as he backed off slowly. The 6 left surrounded him and charged forward, sending punches and kicks. Brooks ducked under the punches, but fell to a leg sweep. He rolled back on his hands and kicked his legs out, spinning on his hands in a circle, the group backed off but one got caught and hit in the chin, crumpling to the ground.
Brooks rolled to the fallen guy and swiped the headband off him before springing back towards on of the group that was isolated slightly. Brooks threw a flying elbow and slammed it in his face, throwing him to the ground before swiping his headband and turning around as he said "And then there were 4..."
The rest got into fighting positions as the ones who were out were watching with their eyes open as they said "Monster!"
Brooks walked forward and deflected all the punches before grabbing Aisha and saying "Sorry, Piggy. We're still friends right?" before kneeing her in the side and kicking out her legs as he grabbed the headband while she fell to the ground.
Brooks tilted his head, dodging a punch before grabbing the assailant's wrist and flipping him over his shoulder, slamming him into the dirt. Brooks kicked behind him and hit another guy in the stomach before ducking under a swing and falling on his ass as he twisted his body and shot out his other leg, knocking the guy to the floor.
He swiped the headband from the first two before punching the last in the face and claiming his headband. He tied them all around his neck and grinned as he stood up. Tory was in shock and Lily watched in a daze, unable to comprehend how it was even possible. Brooks walked over and grabbed Lily's collar as he said "Where are the rest?"
Lily said "You'll never get it out of me." Brooks sighed "This isn't an interrogation, just tell me. Jeez, so dramatic..." Lily snorted and her face turned red form embarrassment, she was caught up in the moment and just blurted it out. Brooks let her go and said "Alright, bring the unconscious back to Sensei. Thank you for your time. The group attack was a good idea but most of you didn't attack at the same time, opting to come one by one. That was a mistake, if you all attacked together from the start I would've had a rougher time, maybe I would've even lost."
Brooks paused and said "The last 6 man attack was excellent, taking away all my options of retreat. Unless I can fly, I wouldn't be able to escape. Just a little more aggressive on the beginning and you guys would've had me. Good job." The class got up and bowed with smiles before leaving, Brooks smiled and Tory said "Nice speech, 'Sensei'."
Brooks rubbed his nose and said "I was just telling the truth, If my Porker wasn't bait I probably would've lost." Tory said with a smile "Oh? Can't bear to hurt me?" Brooks rolled his eyes and said "Normally, but if you're looking for a beating..." he looked around and said "There's no one around.."
Tory blushed and said "Bad boy! In the woods!?" Brooks grinned and Tory smirked saying "How long?" Brooks scratched his cheek and said "10..20 minutes max." Tory bit her lips before finally dragging Brooks deep into the woods in the opposite direction of the camp and everyone else. Brooks followed her with a huge smile.
10... 20 minutes later
Tory was breathing heavy and Brooks leaned on a tree as he said "You're... crazy.." Tory smirked and said "I did some research~" Brooks fixed his pants and hugged her waist as he kissed her and said "Porker? Researching? Who would've thought?" Tory leaned on his shoulder and said "For you? Anything."
Brooks was shocked and cupped her cheeks, forcing her to look into his eyes as he said seriously "No." Tory was stunned and said "Bu-" Brooks shook his head and said "Listen to me. You're your own person, you don't belong to me. You can do whatever you want. I know what you're trying to say and I'm extremely happy but if you do something that puts yourself in danger for me I will be upset. Understand?"
Tory looked into his eyes as tears fell from her own. Brooks smiled and wiped her tears away as he said "I don't want you to get hurt because of me. I care about you too much." before kissing her forehead. Tory closed her eyes and hugged him tightly. Brooks smiled and rubbed her back.
Tory separated form him and wiped her eyes as she said "Why are you always making me cry?" Brooks rubbed his nose and said "Uh, because I'm a terrible boyfriend?" Tory laughed and punched him in the chest as she said with a warm smile "The worst." Brooks clicked his tongue and said "To bad you're stuck with me..." he looked up and sighed "Contracts are the pits, eh?"
Tory laughed and said "Whatever, Killer. You'll be hearing from my lawyer!" as she walked away saying "Come find me when you win, babe." Brooks said "Babe?" Tory touch her lips and said "Did I say that? I meant asshole." before giggling and running away.
Brooks shook his head and walked through the forest once again.
A while later
He saw Miguel and Hawk. He walked towards them and leaned on a tree as he listened in. Miguel said "You stole the medal of Honor?! What were you thinking!" Hawk replied "Who cares, Miyagi-Do had it coming! Just because you still have a thing for Sam doesn't mean I have to go soft."
Miguel said "I'm not soft and this isn't about her. I moved on." Hawk said "Sure. If you want the medal so bad, come and take it." Miguel shouted and attacked. Brooks climbed up a short tree and sat on a branch as he watched Miguel and Hawk fight loudly.
A while later
The rest of the class showed up and Miguel took Hawk's headband along with the medal of Honor he stole. Kreese pointed his chin and said "Finish him." Miguel nodded and swung his leg. Brooks jumped down from the branch and blocked Miguel's leg before grabbing it saying "What are you celebrating for Abuela? I'm still alive."
Miguel's eyes widened and Brooks pulled Miguel's leg and slammed him to the ground. He grabbed Miguel's wrists and pinned him to the ground with one hand and knee before grabbing the headband off his head with a smirk.
Brooks stood up and said "Stingray, you think I forgot about you? Where are you!" he looked around as he tied Miguel's headband around his neck. Brooks narrowed his eyes before smirking, he walked up to a pile of leaves and kicked. Stingray groaned and said "Damnit! My perfect stealth!"
Brooks bent down and grabbed his headband before saying "Gotcha. You were breathing with your stomach, short breaths still make movements. Get up, Rambo." before walking away with a grin. Johnny sighed and Kreese clicked his tongue saying "White team wins. How did he manage that?"
Brooks chuckled and said "It's a secret." as he took off all the headbands and handed them over to Johnny, who grabbed them and smirked as he said "Alright! Good work today, go home." the class shouted "Yes, Sensei!" Johnny held Miguel back and the rest left.
Brooks was walking with Hawk, Tory, and Lily as he said "You trashed Miyagi-Do?" Hawk looked away and nodded, Brooks patted his shoulder and said "Don't be embarrassed." he chuckled and said "Next time just leave the Medal of Honor alone." Hawk chuckled and said "Will do."
Brooks laughed and shook his head as they made their way back to his car and waited for Miguel.
