Chapter 3: Chapter 2

The next morning Koa woke up to help Samantha. Koa hobbled outside to see that Samantha was heading to the other building. As he enters he notice that Samantha was waiting for him show up.

"Good morning Samantha, I'm ready to work." Koa said.

"That's good. You look a little rougher than usual." Samantha said with pity.

"It nothing that can't heal on its own." Koa

"Alright well we will be drawing water today." Samantha

Samantha and Koa walked to the well and began to draw water. They each carried a bucket back towards the stables filling the water troughs for the horses. After filling the water troughs, they brought water into the kitchen to fill a large barrel that could hold 30 gallons of water.

"That's it for today Koa you can go to Max now." Samantha

"Okay. I'll be on the way then." Koa

Koa made his way to back to the house. He was not hampered by Brighton this time. Max was waiting for him at the entrance.

"Good morning Koa, shall we start." Max

"Yes." Koa had said with a nervous look.

"Don't look so worried. When we finish this, I'm going to teach you things that will help you in future." Max

Max led Koa to meet all the people that he might have to talk to when delivering messages. When Max finished introducing everyone to Koa. Then Max took Koa outside to where the firewood is chopped.

"This is part of the work that you will be doing with me. Just a recommendation: Chop as much of the wood logs as you can. Before you question me I will just tell you this the world if unfair, so those with strength with always force those with under their boot." Max

"I know those that have strength do that, but what's does chopping wood have to do with it." Koa

"Come on kid, I know they don't teach you anything, but this is basic knowledge. Ah what ever chopping wood will allow you to build muscle and more muscle will result in me strength. To make you want to chop wood how about I teach you basic things of the world and how to read at least. Just cause you have strength does not mean you will win; you need to you your head." Max

"Okay will I be strong enough to beat my brother?" Koa

"Haha. I like your enthusiasm, but it is not that simple your brother has private tutors. You only have me a lowly butler. You want to be stronger him you need to think fast and work on everything you twice as hard then you might be able to match him" Max said smiling.

Hear that Koa had a chance to become stronger than Brighton he wasted no time. Chopping the wood until the sun fell.

This pattern of work that Koa went threw continued every day through frozen winters and blazing summers; for ten years. Koa was now sixteen looking muscular, but not like a soldier that went harsh training camp. He learned how to read from Max, as well as basic knowledge that Max knew. Koa decided to further what he was taught so he read books in the study at night learning the basics of battle tactics, wild plants, and magic beast. As for his strength Koa could now chop the wood into a single swing. He also began to train his hear to not get caught when he was in the study. From the beating from most of his family allowed him to temper his body and learn to protect his vital organs.

Though his brother, Brighton, has not even cast a glance toward Koa for two years. This was because Brighton was focused on women, beating and using most of the women how he pleased. Do to him being a noble the commoners and maids could not disobey him. His father made excuses, paid people off, and have made some of his guards kill the women that would not be quiet. Axel could not have his next in line have a tainted reputation. At this time Axel became busy because of Brighton's actions.

Koa was continuing to chop wood, as hear someone approaching him from behind. Koa gripped the axe pretending swing but spun around why the axe stopping front of the person's throat. This person was Max.

"You seem to be making progress with axe." Max said jokingly.

Koa lowered the axe.

"I've been practicing different swing techniques to get use to fighting with it." Koa said with a smiling.

"I got something for you." Max

Max reviled a sword from underneath the cloth. It was a basic looking blade, but there was a symbol of half a sun and half a star put together on the hilt.

"Its nothing fancy but if you want to fight someone with on equal terms using a sword would most logical." Max

"You didn't need to buy me a sword I could fight with an axe." Koa

"Yes. But this is a gift from me and Samantha. This will be more useful than a wore wood splitting axe" Max.

"Thank you and say my thanks to Samantha when you see her." Koa

*Picks up the short broadsword*

"Feels a little strange compared to the axe. Though its nice to have one hand free." Koa

"Well, I will leave, and let you get use to the sword." Max

Koa began to swing the sword but fell of balance multiple times. This is because his stance was a strict and did not flow with his sword. Noticing he was not getting anywhere Koa decided to do practice swings on a tree. Swing the sword in a rhythm allowed Koa to understand the flow of the sword. He swung the sword a thousand times with his right arm. He decided that he would get used to fighting with both arms incase he was disarmed, so he swung the sword with his left arm to get them both used to using the sword. Soon the sun dropped, and Koa was alone outside and noticed someone approaching the mansion. It was Brighton with another commoner that he was dragging with him. Koa could do nothing to Brighton even if Brighton was drunk he was still a better swords man than him.

Koa snuck into the mansion after Brighton and the commoner. Though he did not return to his room he went to the study to find more information about sword fighting. After ten minutes of searching, he found one.
