Chapter 12: Chapter 11

I trudge along; Tommy next to me. We're outside the borders of L'Manburg and heading towards the Church of Prime. The Church of Prime is a building that had been constructed so that people could go there to worship, it also had a surrounding land that anyone could go to, to be safe. It was an exclusion and violence free zone.

As we arrive at the Church I looked around, I hadn't been here, in the Dream SMP, for a while. I had been away, trying to find someone that I had seen recently but that had disappeared. His name is J Schlatt and he was a dear friend of mine before I came to the Dream SMP. Schlatt's a tall man, usually wearing a fancy suit to woo the people around him and had large ram horns growing out of his head. He had visited and it had been like déjà vu, but then had been chased out by Dream for fear of strangers. Dream was a paranoid man. I came back to the Dream SMP unsuccessful and empty handed.

"Now what?" Tommy reclines on the pew he's sitting on, looking at me with an almost boredom.

"What do you mean?" I ask, sitting on the pew behind him and leaning my elbows on my knees.

"We won the war a long time ago, now what?" Tommy drawls, resting his chin on the back of the pew.

I sit and look at the ground, thinking. And like the past few days I thought about the day I got back. I had gotten back from my journey, disappointed and tired and was met with Fundy trying to overthrow Tubbo. Tubbo had been left in charge and apparently him and Fundy were in a constant state of war. Tommy had 'diffused it' but it worried me. I had tried to talk to both of them, but both were stubborn, assuring me they were right but not actually answering my questions.

"No one's respecting me, no one's listening to me. I leave and they turn on me." I'm being dramatic, but it's adding to the atmosphere. I have a flare for the dramatic I suppose, "Now when we won the war, I was just the assumed president. But I've been thinking,"

I look up at the young boy, who's now looking quite intrigued,

"We could hold a vote, for president." I smirk, straightening my L'Manburg jacket and leaning in. "And we'll close the ballot before anyone else can enter, we'll be the only party you can vote for. The president and vice-president role will be secured! They will have voted for us and that means that they will have to listen to us!"

"Us?" Tommy asks, eyes wide.

"I want you to be my running mate, Tommy Innit."

"Is this legal?" Tommy says quietly, looking at the entrance of the church for anyone who might be entering or lurking.

"It's our nation Tommy! Anything can be legal if we want it to be!" I say, grabbing his shoulders and grinning at him. He grins back and nods,

"What's our first move?" He prompts, "How do we do this?"

"We need a date, a book and some policies." I say, taking my hands off his shoulders and standing up. "C'mon, let's go get a book and quill."

~~~~~
I rubbed the first page of a brand-new book. And from past experience a new book either meant something good or something terrible. I hoped for the former.
Tommy and I sit just inside of L'Manburg, by the lake, in relaxed positions, discussing our plan.
"So, on the ninth of September we will be holding a vote for the president of L'Manburg, with a party consisting of you and I." I summarise, writing it on the first page of the new book named 'the Electoral Ballot'. "What should our first policy be?"
"Um, 'We will lower taxes'?" Tommy suggests, his brain obviously working at a higher bitrate than it could stand. I snort a little, because L'Manburg had no taxes, as far as I am aware.
"Ok, what else?" I ask, still finishing the first policy.
"Tubbo." Tommy deadpans, "In all lower case." I blink once at him and then write –
1. We will lower taxes
tubbo
3. We hate Sapnap. He is not very appealing.
For about twenty minutes this continued, some good policies and some that were jokes that had an undertone of truth to them. As we said 'We will build big things' for policy 16, a voice pipes up from behind us,
"Pog!"
Quackity, a man with a beanie not unlike mine and asymmetrical facial features stands there, leaning against one of the walls of L'Manburg. He was fairly new and not a part of L'Manburg, I had not spoken to him much.
'Pog' was a word used to describe a feeling of happiness or excitement, similar to 'yay' or 'cool'. I quite like that word actually.
"Quackity, my friend!" Tommy said, putting on a weird accent that Quackity imitated with in his own greeting. They had obviously spoken before and were friends at the very least.
"What ya doin' guys?" Quackity asked, peering at the book,
"Should we tell him?" I ask Tommy, his response is a shrug before making faces at Quackity. "Well, we'll let you in on a little secret…"
I lean in and beckon Quackity closer,
"We're running for president of L'Manburg," I whisper dramatically, "And no one else is allowed to run. We are going to get all the votes. We'll win!" The man pulls away,
"Why should anyone vote for you?" A lopsided grin plastered to his face.
We read him our policies, he laughs at the right ones and nods at the others. We then get to a certain policy that says, 'We will abolish __'. The line is for the voter to fill out, something they don't like.
"So, Quackity, what's something that you don't like, anything!" I encourage, looking expectantly at him,
"You know what I don't like, Wilbur?" He asks, and the next thing he says makes me realise that that grin is constant, even when he's not remotely happy. "I don't like this whole thing! I will not be a part of this injustice against democracy!"
He steps back and spreads his arms out and delivers his next line like a punch,
"I'm running for president, baby!" And this time I could tell that his grin was very real.
