Chapter 25: Chapter 24

"We had a deal."

I look at Dream through my sopping hair. The rain drips off his finger as he shoves it into my chest.

"I know, I-" I attempt to calm him down.

"I'm with Schlatt now," Dream grunts, stepping back, and crossing his arms. "Well, I'm fighting against you at least."

"What? Why?" I ask, crinkling my nose.

"That's none of your business."

He leans in slightly.

"But you must blow Manburg up, no matter what. No matter who wins."

~~~~~
"In here."
The door creaks open and Tommy makes his way in sneakily. I watch him from the shadows, unbeknownst to him. He looks back out through the door and waves someone in. He steps in as if he were walking on hot coals and Quackity follows him through.
"What the-" I start, jolting up. The pair jump in surprise, and I glare down at the grinning man. Advancing towards them with the intent to knock Quackity out, Tommy's outstretched arm stops me.
"Hey!" He says loudly, "He's with me. With us."
My glare disappears instantly.
"Welcome!" I say happily, slapping Quackity on the back. "Come to your senses, have you?"
"Yeah… I'm sick of the way Schlatt treats me."
Every time I had seen a Quackity and Schlatt interaction Schlatt had treated him like an object. It was no wonder Quackity had left.
"Anyway." Quackity mutters, looking awkward.
"Anyway," I agree, waiting for a new topic of conversation to magically appear.
"Anyway! I'm giving Quackity a tour so, see you later." Tommy hurries Quackity down the steps into the ravine and I sigh. Had I become someone people couldn't talk to anymore? I look down after them and sigh heavily again.
~~~~~

"He's got a fucking gun!"

I bolt behind a thick tree, Tommy hiding behind one to my right. Guns are outlawed here, but another word for crossbow is gun. And Schlatt had one and was randomly shooting at us. He cackles from on top of the grey and black tower, loading more arrows.

An arrow plants itself into the ground a good twenty metres away from me and my eyebrows furrow. What is he doing? I peek from behind my tree and an arrow nicks my ear. I pull back quickly and touch my ear tenderly, warm blood oozes out of the cut.

"Wilbur?" Tommy screeches, and I shush him.

"I'll distract him while you get back to Pogtopia." I direct, pointing in the general direction of Pogtopia.

"How are you-?" Tommy starts, but I cut him off.

"Go, I'll be right behind you."

I run out into the clearing, in the opposite direction to Pogtopia, to the stand in Manburg. I don't look back, but I hope that Tommy had started running.

"YEAH, GO ON," Schlatt yells from the tower as I use my 'evasive manoeuvres' to dodge his shots. "GET OUTTA 'ERE!"

I get out of Schlatt's range, although his shouts still echo towards me. I lean against the concrete of the building we had hid in to watch the festival. And Tubbo's execution. That sprint for dear life has given me a stitch and shortness of breath.

I had used Schlatt and his drunken insanity as a distraction so I could slip away. Looking around cautiously I tip toe over to the back of the hill. I push the button camouflaged into the stone and dirt and watch the wall open up to reveal the room I knew all too well.

I walk in and look around at the walls. There has been a song written about L'Manburg, a song of pride that had been reverberating in my head.

Well, I heard there was a special place,

I had scribbled the lyrics over and over and over again on the walls around me, trying to lessen the song repeating in my head.

Where men could go and emancipate

We could have been free; it all went so wrong so fast.

The tyranny and bloodlust of their rulers.

I crashed into the chair in the middle of the room, facing the button. My head throbbed.

Well, this place is real, we needn't fret.

The words swam in front of me, distorting.

With Wilbur, Tommy, Tubbo, fuck Eret.

I swayed where I sat to the tune that only I could hear.

It's a very big and not blown-up L'Manburg.

I got up and stared at the button. I put my hand on it gently, whispering the chorus of the song.

"It's L'Manburg, It's L'Manburg, It's L'Manburg," I close my eyes and breathe slowly. As I stroke the button, I utter the last words,

"It's L'Manburg."
