Chapter 1: Bokuto and Kenma
Bokuto knows that he is being a burden to his team. And it is also because he knows this that he wants to work on his weaknesses. He wants to be the ace his team needs.
A pillar.
Someone reliable.
Like Nekoma's setter pudding-kun.
Pudding-kun is always level-headed. The brain and the heart of his team. Maybe that is one of the reasons why he is jelous of pudding- kun.
Because unlike him, pudding-kun always delivers.
And although Bokuto is jelous, he can't help but respect Kenma-kun anyway. Because Bokuto knows better than anyone how it is hard to be relied on by everyone.
As honored and thankful he may feel, there is this heavy responsibility that is always attached to him, along with the pressure to always do good. Better.
Bokuto realized that he and pudding-kun is more similar than he initially thought. Maybe not physically but with their circumstances and their feelings about their responsibilities.
Always anxious that if they slipped up, their team would resent them. Even with the constant reassurances from their team, it's not enough. Not when your own brain's your own enemy. Because it is hard to make the voices shut the hell up.
'Cuz how can you shut your own brain up?
That is why Bokuto knows that pudding-kun is blaming himself for their loss at the nationals. Probably rotting his own brain out. Wallowing in his thoughts.
Of the what ifs.
Of the could have beens.
That is why Bokuto can't help but feel determined to win the Nationals. Not for his team, not just for himself.
For them.
Kenma and himself.
And he can't justify the reason for this drive that pushes him. All he knows is that he just have to.
