Chapter 3: Chapter Three

He laid down on his bed already tired of the conversation. He looked around the room, taking note of the people packing their bags for the vacation.

'I bet their parents would be eager to see them', he thought. It was times like this that he wished things weren't so different. He longed for the rosy moments his family had.

"How long do I have to wait here till they sent for him? Were his parents even sorry? Were they still alive?' His head was filled with so many thoughts. He swirled the bracelet in his hands.' Always in my heart', it read. How much he hated the inscription on the bracelet. To some was proof of love but to him, it was just a reminder of their sully decision that never include him right from start. He shoved the bracelet in his pocket, already upset just by looking at it. He tried tuning everyone out, including his friends as he longed for someplace and quiet. Gradually he fell into the darkness, oblivious to his surroundings as he felling a quick slumber.

He had managed to have four hours of sleep. He yawned checking the time. The clock read 10:42 am. He wanted to stay in bed, his grumbling stomach forced him out of the bed. The swim earlier had helped to sleep. That was how he managed his insomnia, how he had been coping for a while. Breakfast was swift as he quickly fixed something to eat. He was forking up helping of eggs scrambled to perfection when the doorbell rang.

He sighed getting up to answer, wondering who would be visiting at such an odd hour.

"Hey man", Mike greeted, hands open. Ade rolled his eyes letting him in. "It's barely 12 pm dude, don’t you own a place," Ade murmured walking back to the kitchen.

"I heard that", Mike said following him.

"I knew you did", Ade said settling down on the chair, "why are you here anyway"

"Am I not allowed to meet my favorite bachelor"? Mike asked amused. Ade smirked not bothering to answer him.

"You're cold man", Mike said his attention focused on the now diminishing plate of food to the man-eating his food enthusiastically.

"You should be glad I'm not hungry"

"Oh trust me I am. At least you didn't get to rob my kitchen of its innocence".

"I'm a great cook"

"You mean great at almost burning down my house" "That was just once"

"Was it? I recall that happening every damn time you attempted to cook”, Ade said placing his empty place in the sink.

"No matter what you say, I'm a great cook"

"Maybe I should whip up an award formula or something then"

"Sarcasm isn’t going to help you, man,” Mike said taking a glass of scotch he poured himself.

"Isn't it too early for a drink dude?"

"It’s almost 12 pm. Plus it’s never too early for a drink".

"That's what a drunk would say". Mike laughter heartily clearly enjoying the banter.

"Sorry mom," Mike teased pouting, "I’ll try not to get drunk" "I'd definitely throw you out if you do"

"You're not denying the fact that you're a mom?" Mike said laughing. "What can I say, I've always been the rational one, so I'm basically you're a mom"

"You're the worst man. I can only imagine what the poor girl had to go through"

"What poor girl are you talking about?"

"I see your memory is on lapses," Mike sighed, “I'm talking about Idara Tony, you jerk"

"Ha, the girl you paid,” Ade said smiling, “you know for a moment I forgot who she was". Mike looked at him skeptically, not believing him.

"What! I'm serious man, I didn't remember her," Ade defended. "She's not someone you can just forget".

"Are you whipped man?" Ade asked genuinely curious."

"I'm not, it's just, you met her last night," Mike wanted not liking the tease. "Relax man or I'd conclude the playboy is falling", Ade said laughing loud.

"I told you earlier man, I'm not retiring anytime soon", Mike said taking a drink.

"People retire earlier than intended".

"How is this about me", Mike objected, "this is supposed to be between you and Idara."

"What about her?" Ade asked his interest perked.

"The girl called me cursing at you, what the hell did you say to her," Mike asked concerned.

"She didn't strike me as someone who could curse at you". "There's more this than meets the eye when it came to Idara" "I got the idea she was shy"

"Well maybe she is, but she doesn't hesitate to give you a piece of her mind"

"That explains the cursing then" "I thought you would like her"

"Then you thought wrong," Ade said avoiding eye contact.

"Why? I mean why don't you like her," Mike clarified dropping his bow empty glass.

"She's not my kind of woman that's all. I like them outstanding and she's shy, plus you wouldn't even grade her as beautiful," Ade answered playing with his phone.

"And?" Mike encouraged

"And what Mike? "Ade answered brusquely," I just didn't like her. She didn't strike me as someone who has a zest for life".

"That’s because you didn't have a proper conversation with her", Mike answered flatly.

"Was that what she told you and besides I didn't see any reason faking a conversation when I wasn't physically attracted to her".

"You're always not physically attracted to any woman," Mike said pissed, " you make up this high and tale of your ideal woman that you end up being attracted to no one".

Ade stayed mute to Mike's statement.

Maybe he painted the perfect picture of his ideal woman because he knew no one would live up to that image, maybe he expected less from women. "Why would he want to start a relationship with someone and end up breaking up later in life?” he wondered. For one thing, he didn’t forget Idara. He lied when he said she wasn’t beautiful; she was in her own unique way. He especially likes the little split on her chin. The way she walked even when infuriated was elegant. Maybe she wasn't exactly his type but she was someone he wouldn't mind knowing.

"You know I'm right that's why you're speechless right now," Mike said, bringing him back from his train of thought."

"I'll know the one when I see her, for now, I haven't seen anyone yet"

"It doesn't dispute the fact that we're going to the bar tonight," Mike said grinning. Ade did a double-take.

"We what? he asked dumbfounded, "who said anything about going to the bar".

"It’s the weekend, come on, live life a bit," Mike said smiling

"I don't have to prove I'm 'living life' by going to a bar", Ade said dryly. "Fine, it's settled then, no bar"

"Thank you", Ade sighed in relief.

"We're going to the club then", Mike announced happily.

Ade groaned in his hand, clearly losing his mind he felt like pounding something or someone preferably Mike.

"I'm not going", he said mattered fact.

"Yes, you are. Some women like Idara don’t fit your description, you'd find the classy women you like", Mike said in clear amusement.

"You're enjoying this aren't you?" Ade asked annoyed.

"I can't miss out on a chance to tease you", Mike answered laughing, his eyes glittering with tears.

"You almost had a punch coming your way", Ade mused. "You wouldn't have dared?"

"I wouldn't have restrained myself. You were being unusually annoying" "I'm here to spice up your boring life", Mike said stretching.

"You mean make up for your boring life," Ade asked.

"I'm just going to ignore you, while I rest my head", Mike said closing his eyes, stretching himself on the couch.

"You didn't come all the way here to sleep on my couch did you?" "Nope"

"Then get your lazy behind up and tell me why you’re here. Seeing you sprawled on the couch is pissing me off"

"Don't I live for pissing you off?" Mike answered tiredly

"Just rest man, we can talk about it later. I hate a grumpy you more than I hate an annoying you".

"Aren't you so wise", Mike made himself comfortable on the couch, "Thanks mom"

"Don't thank me, dude, it's not like I did have a choice," Ade answered him getting up.

"Real smooth jerk", Mike said to a retreating Ade.
