Chapter 10: Chapter 9
"Oh right, mother" I said turning to face her again " I've not seen father for two years, if it's alright may I be allowed to visit him?"
At the mention of my father, the expression on her face dimmed a lot " your father" she sighed " has refused to see me ever since he learnt about the vow I made about not seeing you until you changed, I myself have only gotten a few glimpses of him these past two years".
He always rejects me from coming into his chamber after he kneeled for 4 days straight begging me to forgive you but even after that I didn't take back my vow " she said with tears slipping down her cheeks " and since then I haven't even seen a hair of his, I imagine he still hasn't forgiven me." She ended sobbing. This was some new information,
so the previous owner's father loved her enough to kneel for so long and reject the queen but if that the case why didn't he make any attempt to visit her?, surely if he loved her that much he still would have went against the queen's order and visited her.
I was certainly more curious about him now and wanted to know more " don't worry mother" I said standing up to console her " I'm sure if we visit him together, we will be able to convince him to put the past behind him and start again anew as one big happy family" I said hardly noticing the tears running down my face.
This must be a secret wish of the previous owner, wanting to bring her family back together. And so we stood together for a while before the scratching of a chair against the ground interrupted us. " Forgive me mother, but I'll return now as it seems you are quite busy ."
I didn't miss the undertones of anger in her voice as she turned and walked away. Lillian stopped at the end of the stairs and tried to suppress her emotions " Why?, Why must it always be about her?" she said with her hands trembling.
"even after joining their family mother still loves that trash the most, why?, Why can't she just forget about her?!!" She ended with an expression of rage on her face " I have to do something, if not mother will her stolen away by that trash female" she decided before stepping out of the castle.
Meanwhile, back on the balcony....
" Mother that's enough, let's go and see him now" I said pulling away from her. She dabbed her eyes with her napkin and smiled at me " ok dear" . She stood up and led me down the stairs, to the floor located below it.
We walked past several doors most of which were empty as my mother only had three consorts which was quite a surprise to me.
We turned into another hallway and stopped at the first door there, my mother stilled and didn't look like she was going to knock so I did.
I walked in front of her and lifted my hand to knock, my heart pounding excitedly. Knock, knock, knock. After a series of knocks, the door opened and a voice floated out " your majesty, I'm sorry my master is not able to see you today".
Does she come here often enough to be recognized without so much as a glance in her direction?, She hadn't even said anything before she was refused.
I blocked the door with my hand before the man had a chance to close it. His eyes flicked to me and they opened wide in surprise, before I had a chance to say anything the door swung open and a man rushed out.
He was slightly tall with black hair and red eyes, he was practically oozing excitement, "my lady, it's been so long, how are you?" He said with tears gathering in his eyes " never mind that, my master would be happy to see you" he ended gently pushing me into the room.
I turned towards my mother and she smiled at me before stepping in herself. The room was furnished expensively with a king sized bed with lace curtains in the middle. Plush armchairs were at the foot of the bed, opposite those at the far corner of the room stood huge cupboards made of high grade mahogany. Beside those was a vanity with half open boxes of jewellery sparkling so bright, I could see their shine from where I stood , a small exquisite hand mirror laid beside the jewels, the rays of the sun coming through the large windows glinting off its surface.
My gaze strayed to the opposite end of the room in which a wide door stood open with a man in the distance.
I walked towards him slowly and softly called out " father?", The man turned towards me and I exhaled a rapid breath as I stared at him in shock.
The extravagantly decorated room paled in comparison to this man. He had long, white waist length hair the same colour as mine with sparkling ruby eyes almost the same shade as mine. His features looked like he was 20 and also mirrored mine, if I had heaven defying beauty then he possessed a mind numbing handsomeness.
I stared at him some more before confirming, it seems amaryllis had truly gotten all her features from her father. I was basically a younger female version of him.
"Father?" I called out again and that seemed to snap him out of his trance. He rushed towards me and pulled me into his arms " oh my daughter, my darling daughter, I thought I'd never see you again", he said as tears steamed down his cheeks, I encircled my arms around him and hugged him back.
"Please forgive me, I tried my hardest but I couldn't make your mother change her mind, I'm so sorry". I gently cut him off " father, of course I forgive you, I'm sorry for making you so worried , I've changed and from now on we'll always be together, you, me and mother".
After a while of hugging and my father's tears had stopped, he finally let me go and gingeringly led me to the balcony he previously stood.
I turned around and waved my mother over and she walked silently towards us " I'm sorry Lionel, I never should have made such a vow, I truly hope you can forgive me" she said bitterly.
My father turned to face her and smiled " your majesty, I'm happy I'm once again able to see my daughter, let's leave the past as it is and start afresh" he said . I could see the glow of happiness on her face as she stepped closer to his side and drew him into a hug.
I smiled and watched as she placed a tender kiss on his forehead , " your majesty, there's a child here, you shouldn't do such things" he said flustered. I looked at my mother and we both laughed at his statement.
The joyful atmosphere was broken when my father suddenly started coughing. His coughs racked through his lungs and organs and sounded extremely painful. His servant quickly rushed towards him and held him steady, leading him to his bed and laying him down.
"What happened to him?" My mother questioned calmly, the servant bowed and said " your majesty, ever since kneeling for 4 days, his highness caught a severe cold and has had coughing fits like this quite regularly, I tried numerous times to convince him to see a doctor but he refused saying that he didn't want to live if he couldn't see his daughter".
" Couldn't you report this to me?" my mother yelled loudly, her body trembling out of anger as her fists clenched by her sides. " He also prevented me from alerting anybody" the servant said.
" Go and summon a doctor here right now" she yelled at him and we both stepped closer to his bed and held each of his hands.
Now I see, he was unable to visit as a result of this sickness,its a bit strange though, the book never mentioned anything about this, I really hope the doctor can do something.
My father coughed once again and this time he spat out blood onto the covers of the bed. He smiled at me while saying " I'm glad I was able to see you once more amaryllis". He lifted his hand and I held it to my face tears brimming in my eyes.
No!, Not again I can't loose my father again!. I have to do something. I gently lowered his hands and said " not once more but forever more, you'll be able to see me all the time dad."
He smiled bitterly but said nothing. At this moment, the servant re-entered the room with the doctor in tow. " Your majesties" he said and bowed towards us, " no need for that right now, come see what's wrong with him".
" Alright then" he said as he stepped closer to the bed and started examining my dad. His expression turned grave and my heartbeat increased. " Your majesty, he's suffering from a severe cold, normally colds should be easy to cure but this particular one is deep in his body blocking some organs with thick blood, I'm guessing the reason for this is not immediately getting treatment when he first caught the cold ".
Oh no!, will he be able to help him?. The expression of horror on my mother's face answered my question, as I was about to speak, the doctor suddenly turned and said " but don't worry your majesty, there is a way to save him ."
At his words, both my mother and I heaved a huge sigh of relief." But" he continued " right now, I can only work on clearing the dried blood from his organs, to fully cure him I'll need the core of a level 7 magical water beast."
" Good, then begin clearing his organs doctor, I'll get you the core within two days." The queen said moving towards my father. She caressed his forehead and said " rest now Lionel , the doctor will cure you".
Her hands shimmered a pale blue and I silently watched as my father closed his eyes trying to hide my surprise. This must be one of her powers, it would be best for me to get those tutors as soon as possible. She stepped back and turned to face me " come Amaryllis, let's leave the doctor to his work".
I nodded and followed her out of the room "well, the tutors will be here this afternoon so why don't you go and get ready?". I nodded at her and silently walked down the stairs sensing she needed to be alone.
