Chapter 3: Chapter Three

Michael pulled into a reserved spot by the portal entryway. At the center of the four Lords ruling lands was the central section. All forms of life could mingle, all were safe and everyone could return to their homeland once they chose to leave.

Michael pulled Sarah in for a sloppy kiss and smacked her bottom forcing a squeal from her.

"Stop that!" she smacked his shoulder.

He shrugged. "Sorry I couldn't resist."

"You're so bad." Sarah said.

"Alright break it up you two, damn lovebirds." Tristen muttered the last part.

He turned his attention to Rina and pulled her in for a quick kiss before lightly pushing her towards the other two. A few hugs later, Rina and Michael headed towards the Northern gates while Sarah went to the southern gate and Tristen towards the west.

A cooling sensation spread through them as the portal ripples passed over them. Rina sighed. "I guess I'll see you in two weeks." She opened the door to her car.

"See ya Rina." Michael waved as she peeled out of the driveway.

There were barely any cars on the road, Rina swiped her finger on the touch screen on her dashboard. The hood of her car rolled back, the cool breeze flooded through her hair. Long dark strands whipped back. Hazel eyes narrowed as she made a tight turn on the highway. The roads continued to narrow as she drove up the mountain. The roads were completely black no street lights and no sign of life.

Her family home was located deep in the mountain away from the bustling streets of the Northern cities that were mostly run by humans along with holy individuals that were blessed by the gods. For the past two decades babies producing any spiritual energy hit an all time low, save for the imperial families and even there it seemed to dwindle. Her twelve year old brother Kacien had yet to show any form of spiritual residue.

Rina turned into a private road, black iron gates opened upon her arrival. Stepping out of the car she opened the front door and was greeted by a servant.

"Lady Laurina, you grandfather requests your presence."

Rina pulled her heels off and huffed. "Where is he?"

"In his office."

"Thanks." she dropped her bag in her room before heading towards her grandfather. "It's one in the morning, why is he still up?" she whispered.

Ever since her fathers death Travios, her grandfather chose to move in with her mother and brother. The death of her father was a blow to her family and the Northern lands. Her uncle Tomas was currently acting as temporary regent until Kacien reached adulthood. Rina had no interest in the throne or anything that had to do with politics. Her interest fell towards the traditional arts of her ancestors. It took many years to hone her priestess abilities to where they were now.

Rina knocked on the office door before opening it. Her grandfather dropped the papers that held his focus and settled his tired gaze on Rina.

"You're late, it's past your curfew." he grumbled.

"Grandpa I'm eighteen, an adult I need to live a little."

"Bah, nonsense in my time you would have been married with two kids at your age."

"Thank god that's not the case anymore." she slumped on the chaise and curled into a ball and shut her eyes. "Grandpa why am I here?"

"Yes, yes I received an invitation from the Western Lord." Rina lifted her head.

"Invitation for what?"

"The Lord's birthday is in a week."

"He's never invited us before what's so special about this year?"

"He has reached the mark of another century. He is a very private demon, I assume his counsel has encouraged this year's celebration. He is quite young for a demon to achieve the throne at his age."

"Tristen never mentioned anything."

Her grandfather scowled once she mentioned his name. "I don't want you around that boy Laurina, his past with Kimberly was enough trouble for the family. The bloodline must continue to remain pure."

"He's only a friend, grandpa."

"I may be old but do not forget I was young once and that boy seems to follow you around just as he did Kimberly."

Flashes of heated kisses between her and Tristen swept through her mind, the scrapes of his claws, the moans…

"Did you need anything else?"

"You need to come to the celebration."

"Why? Can't mom and Kacien go?"

"All of us have to go, this isn't the first time you have avoided a royal gathering. At one point I won't be surprised if a person doesn't recognize your position in the family."

"That's the point." she muttered.

"What was that?"

"Nothing, I'll come. Can I go now?"

"Good night, darling."
