Chapter 6: Emptiness

"How is he doing?" Aiduin stood before the guard with a tired look on his face.

"Same as before he doesn't eat, take a bath or even move. Why do we even need to take care of him in the first place? I'm not his wet nurse! "

"That's not something you should bother yourself with, just follow your orders that's your job after all. Now let me in."

The darkened room that previously belonged to Haemir, was barely recognizable. A stench strong enough to even knock out a Troll was in the air while the floor was covered with clothes from the wardrobe. Lying on the bed was a small figure, with its arms wrapped around its knees and even though it heard Aiduin coming it didn't move. While slowly palpating his way forward he searched for a free space near the bed and sat down.

"It was exactly two months ago that I was sitting next to your brother like I'm doing now. You know, after I lost my wife and my only child in the first conquest war I probably felt the same emptiness as you do right now. But after I met Haemir I felt like I had back my son, which filled the hole in my heart. After I got informed that he died it... it was like living the trauma all over again. But even if your life seems to have lost all purpose you just need to get up and fill that hole with something else. Especially when you're brother gave his life to safe yours."

Aymon was still lying on the bed without moving or giving any kind of response.

"Sigh... Well in the case you feel like moving, somewhere in his old room should be a diary. I saw him writing in it occasionally, maybe reading it could help you overcome your brother's death." He gave a quick look at all the clothes on the ground.

"Oh and... I don't think you'll find it in the wardrobe."

With those words, he closed the door leaving him alone in the darkness.

Shortly after Aiduin left he started to move his limbs for the first time after a week. All joints loudly cracked on every movement as he staggered towards the window. With his whole body feeling stiff he had a hard time opening the curtains, allowing the sunlight to enlighten the room. Dazzled by the brightness he stumbled a few steps back letting him see the reflection of his now skinny body in the window. He was now barely a shadow of his former self. Slowly he began to search through the whole room as he finally found the diary hidden under a wooden plank below the bed. Whilst sitting on the ground he started to read it.

Day 1:

After master suggested it, I started to write this diary. I don't really know what to write in here so I'll leave it at this.

Always remember, revenge my father's death and create a unified Elfen kingdom.

Day 2:

I started training today and am totally exhausted, I don't even know why I'm writing this so good night to whoever might read this.

Always remember, revenge my father's death and create a unified Elfen kingdom.

Day 3:

My master said that I should write down what I want to do after I've taken revenge upon Lord Áeán and after thinking about it only two things come to my mind:

1. DESTROY THE EMPIRE AND KILL ALL HUMANS

2. Rebuild the old Elfen kingdom so that no other son needs to experience what I've been through.

These are the only reasons I'm standing and fighting here today.

Always remember, revenge my father's death and create a unified Elfen kingdom.

Goosebumps were going over all of his body when he read the capitalized letters.

"He probably went through the exact same feelings as I am now. You had this emptiness too didn't you brother?" Aymon's tears dropped on the diary and smudged the ink as he continued to read.

The sentences describing his daily activities became fewer as they were gradually replaced by the same sentence over and over again until whole pages were filled with it.

Always remember, revenge my father's death and create a unified Elfen kingdom.

He slowly started to read them out loud until the book was finished.

"This was my brother's will and I shall inherit it. I will use this life that he saved to fulfil his wish. With my own hands, I shall destroy the Empire and with my own eyes I shall see the prosperity of the Elfen Union."

With that goal in mind, he took the plate that was standing on the bedside table and started eating. A new fire has been lit in his eyes and with it a new unique mage.

Fall 1916 after Idemis' ascension, while the defences at Ogeroy Creek were build up and reinforced, the internal strives took a turn for the worst. The village Elfs started to see themselves as High Elfs a superior race than the normal ones resulting in discrimination within the Union. Governmental affairs were also on a stalemate since both factions only want the power for themselves. At the worst time, the Union was divided in two while the enemy was waiting at their doorsteps.
