Chapter 4: Chapter 4: Will my hair turn yellow?

After failing the graduation examination, Kent spent the whole afternoon inside his room. Even the lunch was sent to his room. His father knew that he would be able to overcome failure and grief by himself.

Kent did so when his mother died.

...

While his father was worried about him, Kent was busy practicing calligraphy in his room.

Calligraphy helped in stabilising his mood.

Although he was an adult inside and it was his intention all along to fail at the test, but still, he was hurt when other students laughed at him, made fun of him and it was not the first time he was looked down upon for his 'intentional' poor performance.

Whenever he felt hurt, angry, or sad he would practice calligraphy to curb the unnecessary negative emotions.

Stroke after stroke, quick and slow, the brush sweeped across the rough surface of the the paper as the one meter long scroll which was spread on his bedroom floor gradually filled up with words written in Kanji.

After the last stroke, he breathed a long sigh and closed his eyes.

After a long pause he opened his eyes. There was no trace of sadness or anger in those eyes anymore.

'Now the final chakra attribute that I was waiting for,' he thought of the rewards he got after signing in the classroom today.

[Would the host like to retrieve the "lightning attribute" chakra nature.]

'Retrieve,' he mentally commanded. There was a slight tingling sensation throughout his body as if he had recieved a mild electric shock.

After the ink on the paper had dried, he rolled the dowel of the scroll until they met in the middle and put the two dowel scroll into a rather large wooden box sitting under the study table. There were already many similar looking scrolls in the box.

Putting back the ink stone and brush into their proper places, he cleaned up his room.

After that he picked up a piece of paper with yellowish tint, from the study table. It was a chakra induction paper. It works like litmus paper but instead of pH, it helps in determining the chakra nature of an individual.

With the paper between his middle and index finger, he infused a small amount of chakra into the paper. In the next moment, the paper became wet. But the change didn't stop there, the wet paper then dried up and wrinkled. The wrinkled paper then split in two pieces, one of which turned into dirt and crumbled away while the other piece was ignited and turned into ash.

Thanks to the system, Kent had acquired all five basic elements as his innate chakra nature namely, fire, water, earth, air and lightning. There was also an extra chakra nature he had gained in the academy, it was yin nature. It leaned more toward application of spiritual nature like genjutsu (illusion) and barrier seals.

"My academy days are over," he muttered and sighed. He was a little disappointed that he won't be getting his free and steady income of system rewards anymore. "Doesn't matter anyway, The rewards seem to be repetitive for the last few weeks. Maybe the system has upper limits."

"Let's see, I have perfected my chakra control and also perfected the chakra nature transformation except for lightning... have over five to six hundred jutsus including some medical knowledge... already learned the basics of seals..."

It was quite satisfying to count the gains.

...

The next day, Kent and his father went to the Yamanaka flower shop.

"Hello Mrs. Yamanaka," Kent's father greeted the middle aged, blonde woman who was watering on the flower pots that were neatly arranged on the long table. It was Ino's mother.

"Oh, hello Mr. Ishikawa," the woman turned around and greeted them with a polite smile. "Daisy?"

"Yes, please."

It was not the first time Kent's father came here to buy flowers. After Kent's mother died, he would occasionally visit the grave with Kent.

There are some people close to you that you can't bear to forget even if the person is dead.

Kent's mother was such a person to Kent and his father.

Kent looked over the dozens of variety of flowers on the table, some of them were familiar and some unfamiliar.

'It's Yamanaka Clan's shop. Maybe I can get something nice.' Kent thought.

'System, sign in.' Without any delay, he mentally commanded.

[Congratulations to host for getting 'Yamanaka Bloodline'. Whether to retrieve?]

Kent was stunned for moment.

'System can even provide bloodline?!' The possibility of getting a bloodline caught him off guard.

"Here is flower."

The sound of the Ino's mother woke him up from daze.

"Thanks." After paying for the flower, Kent and his father headed for the cemetery.

"Are you okay, Son?" Asked Kent's father with concern. "You looked distracted."

"I am fine, dad," said Kent. "It's just that... I miss mom."

Kent didn't want to lie to his father but there was no better excuse.

"I do too, Son."
