Chapter 8: Save log 6: The Knight In The Darkness
The tunnel keeps on going ahead in the sea of dark void. The wall also got itself painted in black. The ceilings can be seen hardly. It was a wide long tunnel with no end. No sign of light around except the magic light sphere circling around on the tip of Furara's wooden staff. She is leading us the way as she knows where we need to go.
" Wait, you have a staff?", I asked.
" Well, yes….I do."
" Then why the heck didn't you use it before?"
" ...I just like free hand casting. That's why I don't use my staff that much.", she replied.
" You can increase your attack and mana if you equip that."
" I know that I get caught stealing everytime I try to steal. But I still do it. She is like that right?", said Lina who is all the way behind.
" Yes, something like that you said."
" That's not gonna help us with anything."
We continued to walk forward, having Furara leading us to our destination. Suddenly, my enemy detection skill wears off. I turned around and saw Lina also became alerted.
" Di-did you feel that too?", I asked.
" Yeah, something is behind us….", both of us looked at the black darkness behind us.
" Hey guys. I think something is behind us.", said Furara.
As soon as she finished her sentence, three undead skeleton soldiers started to get visible to us. All of them are running toward us.
" Ruuunnnn!!, all of us started to run as fast as possible. But since we can't see in the dark. But, Lina was running around ahead so easily as if she could see everything.
" Oi, don't leave us behind Lina!"
" We will be separated if you run ahead of us like that."
" Wahhaa!", Lina came running back to us.
" What's wrong? Why are you running back to those undeads?", I said.
" Th-there are more ah-ahead.",saying that she pointed to the dark void ahead. Some skeleton miners were approaching us.
" Those are just miners! They can't possibly be that strong. Those soldiers back there are the biggest threat right now!"
We were surrounded by the undead team of this mine. Those soldiers are possibly the guards of the mine and those are just some miners who met a tragic end.
" What are we gonna do?", said Furara.
" Ignore those soldiers and run toward the miners altogether."
" Are you sure?"
" We got no other choice. I'm just a ranger who is good at archery. And you are just a thief with no combat skills. While Furara is just a useless magic supporter. We are all completely useless right now!"
" You are right."
" Alright. Let's do this then. Three..", Lina started to count.
" Hey hey don't start it on your own."
"..two….one...goo!"
All of us started to run. I quickly equip my bow.
" Multi quick shot."
Three arrows went into different directions. The miners ahead jumped aside to dodge them among it easier for us to run through. This is just what I wanted. We ran past them and continued to run.
" Nice work Hanji."
" Praise me later. Just keep running now!"
The soldiers started to run after us. We were running then, Lina was ahead of us, I was in the middle and Furara at the end. Lina suddenly stopped. I couldn't stop myself and bumped into Lina. Furara came along and bumped into me.
" What now?"
" There are two tunnels now. Which one do we need to go?", said Lina.
I couldn't see anything in front of me. The source of light which is Furara is all the way back.
" Take the tunnel on your right and hurry. Those skeletons are getting closer!", said Furara.
" You heard her. Go take the tunnel on your right."
" On it!" She turned right and ran toward the darkness. I followed her along while Furara followed me behind. When will all this running stop.
Lina's wiggling tail and her back was all I could see with Furara's light. But suddenly, it disappeared.
" Where the heck did you go?!"
Her wiggling tail and the two head of the red scarf again appeared. I felt relief. We continued to run.
" I think we lost them.", said Furara from behind. She stopped running.
" Really?", I stopped myself too. I heard Lina stopped in the darkness. We looked behind for a while but no skeletons popped out from the void.
" Thank god!", said Lina. She sat down on the ground. I also leaned on the wall. All of us are breathing heavily and trying to catch our breath back.
" Are we going to the right way?", I asked.
" Yes. The scent was coming from this way."
" Alright. Let's rest for awhile then continue again.", said Lina
Furara and I agreed to her. We need to be in good shape before going on a boss battle.
" Do you think we are getting closer?"
" I don't know. The scent vanished…..oh the magic weared off already.", said Furara.
" Use it again Furara."
" I'll try."
" No. No need. We will be in a whole lot of trouble if she gets messed up right now. Keep using the light magic. If we come up into another multi tunnel then you are gonna use it."
" Alright….I'll do that then.", she held her staff and the light started to glow more strongly.
" Oh yeah. How the heck are you moving so smoothly in the dark?"
" The Nekori race has night vision which is a racial ability."
" Oh, I see."
There are racial abilities too. What racial ability does a human have I wonder. Razahan-sama didn't tell me anything about this.
" I guess you don't need light. Anyway, let's keep going now."
" No, I need that. My night vision costs mp.", she replied.
" Alright. Furara is going to lead the way again."
We again started our search for the missing knight. As we took steps slowly moving ahead, the air started to change. There was a tension in the air and it was heavy. As if the air is telling us that there is something beyond the darkness we are going into.
" I thi-think we are getting closer.'', said Lina while stuttering.
" Me too. Le-let's prepare ourselves if the demon attacks us.", I equipped my dagger. There is no point of long range attack against close range. Lina also got her dagger out and furara was already holding her staff.
We kept walking and the air kept getting tense.
" We are in a big mining room now. There is no way ahead. It's a dead end.", said Lina as her eyes were glowing green.
" Really? Then the demon is…"
We all became alerted. We stand back to back of each other. My enemy detection skill didn't wear off but we all know, something is here in this room.
" Someone is in front of me.", said Furara. All of us turned in that direction.
There was a sound of footsteps. We saw a tall figure carrying a torch.
" Furara-sama? Is it you?", said an old man's voice from the darkness.
" Dermin?"
" Old man Dermin?", both Furara and Lina were surprised.
" Yes, it's Dermin The Butler. I see you finally found the place Furara-sama."
The guy was pretty old. The man wore a fine three piece of black butler outfit, outlining the shape of his thin body which was a bit dirty.
His hair had naturally turned white, with strands of black, playing hide-and-seek among the white strands. His eyes were dark, black as coal, and deep. There was a long scar on his left cheeks, it seemed like it was sliced open by a sharp object, a long time ago. He had thick eyebrows, making his face a little frightening, but there was a certain charm to him.
The man had wrinkles near his eye, cheeks, forehead, and the likes, yet he is still ravenous than whatever his age is.
" Thank god you are alright. We are here to get you back. Where is Joro?"
" I see. I'm glad that you are here for us. Joro-sama is around here. No need to worry."
…..the way he said it as if they were fine and didn't need help or some sort.
" What about that demon general?", asked Lina.
" Well, he is here too with Joro-sama."
" What?!", all of us screamed out of shock. Why would the demon general be with Joro? Wait, are they being enslaved?
" What's going on Dermin.", said a deep voice from the darkness. All of us startled by the voice.
" Joro-sama, Furara-sama and his friends are here to take us back.", said Dermin while looking at the direction where the voice came from. We couldn't see anything. But, I can feel that he is taller than Grodmin and Dermin.
" Are they?"
" Thi-this is getting creepy.", whispered Lina into my ears.
" Ye-yeah. What the heck is going on now?"
" Jo-joro-SAMA, tha-thank god you are alright too. We are he-here to take you back. YOUR MAIDS ARE WORRIED FOR YOU!"
" I see. So you are Furara-sama. Nice to meet you. And who is that beautiful lady beside the not so good looking lad?", said Joro from the darkness.
What the heck….
" Wait, you are that sly thief. What was your name again?"
".......it's Li-lina.", her face turned all red all of sudden.
" Yes, the three tailed thief Lina. I've heard many things about you. Hahaha! You are a very unique thief."
Lina hid her face in her scarf to hide her embarrassment.
" We are here to get you back. Shinon is pretty depressed that you are not coming back. So are you coming with us or what?", I asked.
" I thank you for searching for me to make Shinon happy. But, I'm not going back that easily."
" Why?!"
" I shall see if you are worthy or not. Fight with me along with the demon that is inside me."
" The wh-what in-inside you?", my body started to shake crazily
" He-hey Furara…..is he blu-bluffing with us?",
" I don't know. Bu-but, I did read about the so-soul infusion."
This is all going crazy all of a sudden.
" Dermin, turn out the lights will you?"
"......as you wish master.", the butler put down the red flare of his torch. The room returned it's black 'beauty'. Furara isn't using her magic.
" Wh-why do you wa-want to fi-fight us?", said Lina.
" You came here all the way from Midlofhin. Don't just run away now. Fight and I'll see if you are worthy of taking me with you."
The noble in this world are crazy! What kind of logic is that? Wait, what if the demon inside him…..controlling him? Oh crap! This is going to go wild now.
Furara, Lina and I drew our weapon to fight against the knight in the darkness. We have no idea if we will win.
A/N: I will be posting a chapter every Wednesday from now on. Hope you guys enjoy it to the very end of this story.
