Chapter 45: The Stalwart Vanguard, Asterion the Warden (Asterion & Astur POV)

***Asterion POV***

'I a time long since past, I began mine journey. 'I the beginning, I sought out compromise, yet was left betrayed. I sought out change from the inside, yet it's hard to change the nature of man and the systems they create for they would ne'r let a member of the Demon race bear a place of power. Humans are unsinewed, yet they bear power and shall fight against aught that might be a threat to their place. Yet maugre all, I still dream of the day the Demons can live 'i harmony amongst the Humans and the Beastfolk without fear of being persecuted. I am a warrior, I was born to be a warrior yet I would for peace, the other Tur Demons bid me brainsick yet I am still hither after almost 1,000 years as the last of the Tur.

Today was an interesting one, haply the late shaman was right. Though I hast forswore mine foretold fate time and time again. The late shaman prophesied I would die 'i a state of idleness and wouldn't live to see mine dream come true, yet I am a warrior for I shall not rest till I see mine dream to fruition or die trying towards the field of broil. That man but also prophesied that the times would change when a child of infinity appears 'i the world. It wasn't till long after the shaman died didst I wot the child of infinity refers to an Infinity Wolf, a Demon race spoken of 'i legends of yore, oft bid the rulers of spirit World. And today, the child of infinity hath appeared. For what change they shall bring, it is unknown, yet would they threaten the potential of peace, I won't hesitate to undo mine hammer upon 'em.

The child of infinity wants for me and mine comrades to join her and bids to negotiate with me, yet there are other matters to attend to. For now, I hast asked the child of infinity and her companions to help mine comrades grant the deceased a meet farewell. I shall test her sincerity. Powerful she may be, I shall strike her down should'st she be indign.

Watching her, I found that both the child of infinity and her companions happily went along with mine crave and e'en hark to the woes of mine comrades. At first glance, they never seem to be of ill intent, e'en that foolish daughter I picked up doesn't regard they are of ill intent and she can sense the emotions of others, yet it isn't impossible to conceal one's emotions. Most well, I shall hit together to speak with 'em. Under mine eyes, there is no truth that can be concealed.

Having bid the child of infinity to speak with me, both she and several of her companions hast arrived.

"Why doth thou desire me and mine comrades to join thou?"

"My nation is in its infancy, and need of a strong force as its backing. Although its military strength isn't weak, it can't much the numbers of our neighbors. I want you to join me as an extra military force and to serve as a military instructor, training new troops."

I see no lies in her words. Although honest, honesty isn't enough for such shallow reasoning. But shall play along for now.

"And what is this nation of yours?"

"The Holy Oulvgar State."

Oulvgar? This sounds like the language of the Ancient Demons, yet I am unclear of its meaning.

"The main population are the Oulvgar, which means intelligent beasts. They are former monsters of the Sea of Trees that I had given both power and intelligence. As it stands, my nation is one that includes all peoples, the Oulvgar, Demons, Beastfolk, and Humans, I'd even welcome aliens. This is a state that welcomes all the people of Vopal and even those from beyond, so what do you think, Warden, or rather, Asterion?"

Asterion… a name lost 'i the passage of time. How long hath it been since 'tis said someone quoth mine name, I no longer remember. Mine eyes see no lies 'i her words, haply the bodement is true and this child of infinity can forsooth usher 'i a new era. Death waits for none and mine journey of 1,000 years shall anon join to an end. Maugre its pointlessness, I was determined to keep fighting for the sake of peace and i had long since assumed mine dream would die with me, for i don't would for mine daughter nor mine comrades to keep pursuing a goal along an endless road. Yet haply this road isn't forsooth endless. I wonder, is an end finally 'i sight?

***Astur POV***

Conversing with a member of the Tur race is definitely one of the more troublesome things in life. Their innate ability to see through lies makes it hard for people to speak as even a simple white lie will be seen through creating distrust, as the Tur are the demons who abhor lies the most. At least everything I've said is true, even if I didn't explain my full reasoning that his presence in my faction would make my life much easier and allow me to laze around more often.

"I say truly to join thou, yet only if thou shall warrant to uphold mine ideals and marshal't the world to peace and prosperity."

He wants me to promise to uphold his ideals and carry his dream. Based on the name of the quest 'The Journey of 1,000 Years for Peace' I've already more or less figured out what he wants and from the latter half of his previous sentence, it looks like I was right. Asterion's goal is for all the people of Vopal to live in peace with each other. People like him, who hold such righteous thoughts and carry them out with all their being are a rarity.

"I promise that the world will see a new age of peace and prosperity under my lead."

I'm not lying when I say this. He'd see through it after all. Although peace and prosperity isn't exactly my goal, it could be considered a byproduct of my goal, to live a lazy and relaxed life. To be free from any worries, the world needs to be in an orderly state, peace and prosperity simply come packaged together in such a world. The only problem is that Demons are bound by promises, it's in their very nature to abide by them as failing to do so can actually weaken us. But I have confidence that I can manage to complete this, even if it takes a bit of time and effort.

"Thou should'st wot, the Tur see through lies and I see no lies 'i thy words. Following the rites of yore, I shall course through with the Oath of Fealty."

Although I haven't even gone through the rite personally, I am aware of how it's done. An ancient tradition from Spirit World where one pledges loyalty unto another. First, the pledger kowtows twice to Spirit World and the Primordial Demons Races. Then after kowtowing to Spirit World, the one being pledged to will give a statement to the pledger. And finally, the pledger kowtows twice to the one they will pledge to serve.

Seeing the giant Demon on the ground finishing the second round of kowtowing to Spirit World and the Priomdorial Demons, I make my speech, "I, Astur Sera Kojuuin, hereby declare that the dream of peace that Asterion has carried, will henceforth be upheld by me. Under my lead, Vopal will see a new era."

"Under the watch of the Primordial Demons of Spirit World and so long as mine ideas are carried forth by thou, I, Asterion, the last of the Tur of Vopal, pledge mine loyalty to Astur Sera Kojuuin."

CREATORS' THOUGHTS
Akkre_Kojuuin Akkre_Kojuuin

I know that this might be a bit difficult to read. A lot of old and uncommon words are used in Asterion's thoughts and dialogue. Better get used to it since Asterion will be here for a while. But don't worry since he is probably the only character to speak like this.

Have a nice day everyone.
