Chapter 12: You gotta think Smarter than this

"They are well cooked right?"Jayde asked Dexter who was eating at the dining table.

"A bit overcooked for poached eggs," Dexter answered.

"I didn't make poached eggs..."

"Oh... yeah they are well cooked," Dexter said.

"Right…." Jayde went back to packing up his lunch.

Earlier he used to pack Dexter's lunch as well but because of the extra responsibility and workload, he couldn't muster up enough energy to make lunches in the morning.

After being promoted to one of the partners, he was back to a point where he could stir enough time to make Dexter's lunch but it was too late because Dexter had been accustomed to lunch money instead of actual lunchboxes.

After packing up the lunch for himself, Jayde cleaned up the kitchen and asked Dexter about how everything was going at school.

"Dex do you remember Weston?" Jayde asked even though he knew the answer.

"Yes... He has not visited in quite some time now," Dexter said.

"Yeah… He has been bugging me a lot these days saying that I should get remarried because one of his friends just got remarried and now he wants me to get remarried."

Dexter saw his father man-explaining as he would do sometimes and hoped this would end quickly or he would get late for school.

"You know, it's ridiculous…I have told him that it's not gonna happen and I mean where would I even find anyone it's just a bad idea in general right? It's a bad idea right?"Jayde looked at Dexter eagerly for an answer.

"I don't know actually," Dexter had no idea how to respond. After all, it's not every day your dad asks you about getting remarried.

"It is a bad idea, it's just that he has been on my back with this lately and I wanted a second opinion on how stupid this whole thing is," it's not every day when you have to ask your child's take of you getting remarried so Jayde had no idea what was he talking about either.

"I don't know, I mean if you wanna get remarried, I don't think anyone would have a problem with that," Dexter tried to say something that an adult would say but it didn't come out as he intended. The situation was getting too awkward and he just wanted to get out of it asap.

"You don't think it's a bad idea, I mean you will get a new mom... step-mom! and having a mom is not a bad idea," Jayde regretted starting this discussion.

"Can you please stop saying 'bad idea' again and again, I do think he is right, maybe you need to get married," Dexter said in sarcasm but Jayde couldn't read it.

"You think Weston is right?!...Anywa…y… you should go now or you will get late," Jayde said as he saw Dexter's eagerness to leave the conversation. Dexter almost jumped from the chair and dashed out after putting his dish in the sink.

"So Dex doesn't think it's a bad idea... yeah I should stop saying 'bad idea' again and again," Jayde said out loud.

Dexter and Matt were going to the cafeteria in the break after yet another boring, monotonous, cumbersome, tedious, soul-crushing, tiring day of school.

"Man I am starving so much," Matt said to Dexter as they stood in the waiting line of the cafeteria.

"Starving is enough, you don't have to add so much after it. You should pay more attention in literature class," added a guy who was standing in front of them in the line, trying to act smart.

"Shut up or I will eat you after grilling you alive," said a familiar voice.

Smart-pants turned quickly after getting a glimpse of Brooklyn. "Hey Brook, how you doin, don't-chu have cool friends to hang out w....aaawwwwaaaaa," Brooklyn pulled Matt's tongue before he could end his sentence.

"Don't do that, he hasn't brushed since last year."

Brooklyn closely inspected Matt's tongue which she held tightly and nodded her head looking back at Dexter.

"Told you," Dexter answered.

"Ummm asuseme tan igh ave ay ang pack," Matt uttered with the best of his ability.

"Sure," Brooklyn finally let his tongue go and slapped Dexter's butt while he was getting food.

"Geez! You are in a good mood today," said Dexter as he picked up the plate.

"You got that from her slapping your cheeks! What kind of telly-asspathy is that?" Matt asked Dexter.

"You want some cheek slapping yourself?" Brooklyn told Matt as she sprinted his way.

"Thou shalt stay away you!...you cheek slapping witch," Matt said and ran for his life and Brooklyn ran after him.

"No running in this area you twits," said the lady on the food counter.

"You gotta think smarter than this Brandon, do you not wanna see your boss happy," Weston said to Brandon.

"But Sir I don't think it's a REALLY good idea to flirt with my boss's supposedly future wife in front of him," Brandon was in the wrong place at the wrong time, a commonly occurring theme in his life.

"You don't understand at all, You gotta flirt with Caroline because see if you flirt with Caroline in front of Jayde he will feel the spark in his heart, and then it's jus...".

"How exactly is that gonna work?'' Jayde said as he walked towards Weston's desk and saw him with Brandon.

"Sir, how ar… your day going?" Brandon Stuttered.

"Brandon I would like to see your project report on my desk by Tuesday and as for you Weston we have some talking to do," Jayde looked and sounded mad.

Brandon took off with his heart up his sleeve and Weston had an 'I am sorry I messed up face'.

"What do you want?" Jayde asked Weston and this time it was serious. Jayde initially was looking for Weston because he thought this marriage thing might have a premise after talking to Dexter.

"Listen Jayde, I have known you for so long and I just can't see you like this anymore," Weston said in a sad voice as he sat down at his desk.

"Like what…I am okay, I am doing good, there isn't anything I want more in life so please stop this. I won't say it again," Jayde was doing the opposite of what he wanted to.

"I think I crossed the line on this one," Weston sighed.

"You did Weston…way over the line, now I want you to take a leave for today," Jayde said as he pushed his chair into the desk. Weston nodded and reached for his bag and started packing up a few files. "And yeah stop harassing Brandon," said Jayde while walking away. Weston nodded in response.

"Wait, he must be just thinking out loud, don't you think,'' Matt said to Dexter as they were sitting in the background of the school after the classes had ended for the day.

"I don't know he was being weird about it," Dexter said.

"Explain Weird," Brooklyn said.

"Well, he has this habit of being weird about things... How should I explain this, like when you are indecisive about something so you just keep shooting shots until one hits the target, but it kinda never hits…".

"I said explain weird, don't be weird yourself," said Brooklyn.

"When you know someone is right but you don't want to agree so you start bullshitting," Dexter explained.

"All the time man," said Matt, trying to make things funny.

"What are you gonna do then," Brooklyn asked Dexter.

"What can I do?"

"Do you think he has someone in his mind?" Brooklyn asked.

"Not that I know of," Dexter was trying to think hard but he could not even recall one person.

"He doesn't bring girls home?" said Brooklyn.

"NOO!... he doesn't."

"What about your dad's birthday? I remember having some pretty girls there," Brooklyn said.

"That was one sweet bejesus hell of a party," Matt said and got ignored totally.

"No, that was all Weston's doing, and stop saying girls," Dexter is now thinking of talking to Weston and seeing what he has to say because he always has this wingman vibe.

"Yeah what about this Weston dude, I only saw him once but he seemed pretty chill for his age," Brooklyn said.

"Yeah he is alright and all but he is feeding dad with his stupid ideas now," Dexter said.

"I don't like him, I saw him give alcohol to a 13-year-old once," Matt said, disagreeing with Dexter.

"That was you wasn't it," said Brooklyn.

"Wait what," Dexter exclaimed.

"What?" Brooklyn was not supposed to tell this because it was her and Matt's secret.

"What!"
