Chapter 3: Sam and I

(Have a great Valentines everyone! I'll probably have two chapters out today as well.)

I ended up agreeing to stay the night in the vault upon, Sam's request, which gave me more time to figure out the various uses of the Darkness energy swirling around inside of my body, as well as the perks the armor gave me. I figured out that I could materialize the armor at will, which was perfect considering it was apparently forbidden to use the Darkness if you were a Guardian.

I soon figured out that I could infuse the armor with Light, giving it more of a holy look which invalidated the need to hide it. Well about as holy as a six-eyed, spiky suit of armor could get. However, when I channeled the Darkness into the armor, a thin layer of black flames shrouded my body.

I moved toward an empty glass case and saw my reflection inside of it. I had medium length ash colored hair, crystal clear amethyst eyes and, although I thought I looked relatively plain, Sam compared me to a 'ridiculously handsome celebrity'.

After we had moved toward a few more weapon cases, Sam began to explain that all Guardians had the ability to use what the Ghosts refer to as a 'Status Sheet' in order to see their armor and weapons that they have equipped as well as their overall stats.

I let out an impressed 'hmph' before closing the translucent screen and walking over to where Sam was darting around. As I neared, Sam spun and said "Hey, hey! Come look at this!" I suppressed my laughter and walked over toward a glass case that held a black sniper with golden trimmings and emblems.

I looked at the golden emblem and saw some sort of tree with two wolves facing each other as they bared their fangs. I turned my head slightly while continuing to look at the sniper and asked "What, is this some kind of Artifact as well?" in a slightly hopeful voice.

Sam shook and said "Well, you can kind of say that. This is a weapon that was once used by the Iron Lords, specifically Lady Skorri herself..." I cocked an eyebrow at the mention of the Iron Lords. Sam had never mentioned them before, but the name sounded vaguely familiar.

I shook my head to clear my thoughts before resting my hand upon the case and asking "So, do you think this would be a good weapon for us?" to which Sam eagerly nodded in affirmation. I broke the case and grabbed the sniper before bringing it closer to inspect it once more.

The details on the weapon were some of the best I had ever seen, and the gun itself was in perfect condition, almost like it had just been made. I pocketed the sniper in my storage and began to look around the armory with Sam, finding a multitude of rifles, sidearms, swords, and even rocket launchers.

Even though I had viewed several weapons that looked to be masterpieces and one-of-a-kinds, none of them felt 'right' to me. I didn't feel anything like I did with the armor or the sniper, however, that changed once I caught a glimpse of an extra rack behind all of the others.

It was filled with various handcannons, autorifles, and submachine guns of various sizes, each giving off a sort of 'timeless treasure' vibe. I picked up a few handcannons and felt how well they fit in my hands, almost like they were made for me.

I ended up pocketing three handcannons that I though had fit me best, two autorifles, and a submachine gun. Feeling unnaturally energetic and happy, I strut over toward Sam and watched as he scanned every last weapon in the room.

Sam looked back and said "Woah, what made you so happy all of a sudden?" in an amazed tone. I smiled smugly and pulled out my treasure from my storage, earning a sudden snicker from Sam as he said "These pieces of trash got your hopes up huh? You'd be lucky if these things even...fired...yeah, uh, where the hell did you find these and are there more!?"

Sam's tone did a complete 180 as he got close to my face and shouted ecstatically. I held my hands up and pushed the little guy away before pointing a thumb behind me and saying "I found em on a rack back there. These things seem like they'll be worth carrying around if you catch what I mean."

Sam nodded and said "Oh, believe me I get what you mean!" as he floated toward where I had pointed. A few minutes later, Sam's voice called out to me as I was inspecting another set of armor. I walked toward the back and saw Sam rummaging through a large metal crate. I walked up to him and he popped out from the crate and said "Come and look inside of this thing! There's a really badass looking sword down at the bottom!"

I immediately perked up at the mention of a sword and practically dived into the crate along with Sam. We spent the better part of the hour searching through the surprisingly deep crate until we had finally found the sword laying at the bottom.

I grabbed hold of its handle and struggled to get back to the top, as I was neck-deep in weapons. I was finally able to get out with Sam's assistance along with the sword. I plopped down onto the ground and took a moment to breathe as I looked at the beautiful weapon in front of me.

It was a pure scarlet color with a gold-blue edge and a solid black cloth wrapped around the handle. The weapon was filled to the brim with Solar energy, making it seem unstable, however, the energy was perfectly stable, which provided it with an unfathomable amount of power.

Sam scanned the weapon and lit up with joy as he exclaimed "This thing can shoot out a big ass line of fire!? That's awesome!!" My brow raised in curiosity as I reached for the blades handle, but Sam stopped me and said "You better not think about firing that thing in here! You'll blow the whole building to bits!"

I practically deflated at his words, but I picked up the sword anyways and ran my hand over its surface, admiring its beauty. I put the sword in my storage and decided to try and find some items to set up camp with, or at least find something to make sleeping comfortable.

I found a few thick curtain that I could use to sleep on and double as covers, as well as a soft looking item that I used to prop my head on. I wished Sam a goodnight and fell asleep almost immediately.

---

I dreamed of a burning city being assaulted by large, heavily armored alien creatures, as well as these freakishly scary humanoid monsters with pale white skin, no visible eyes, and long, sharp claws for hands. I appeared to be floating above the city as this attack was going on, and as countless civilians were massacred while the few who could fight ran away to preserve their own lives.

I felt sick watching this one sided slaughter, but I felt pure rage when I watched a man in expensive looking armor push innocent people into the aliens range so he could escape. I saw a large, bipedal, hulking monstrosity with wrinkled, leathery tan-grey skin, a tall skull, dark wide-set eyes with slit pupils, and a very high, inverted-V-shaped upper lip that exposed its sharp fangs.

The monster was clad in a suit of black and white armor with two large, cleaver-like swords on its back and two pistols at its side. The thing looked up toward me and titled its head sideways before adopting a grotesque smile, sending shivers down my spine that continued even after I had woke.

I sat up, yawned, and stretched my tired body before rubbing my eyes and looking around the room for Sam. I saw my little floating companion next to the now closed vault door as he scanned a pile of what looked like scrap metal.

I stood up and groggily walked over to Sam, earning a snicker from the robot. "Good morning sunshine! You all around favorite Ghost has mapped the entire city above us to make for an easier escape once we get out of the treasure trove of goodies." I raised my brow in astonishment as I looked at my radar, noticing that it was now a detailed map of the city above instead of a grey circle.

I raised my hand up, looking for a high five, but I realized that Sam couldn't give me a proper high five, but he didn't seem to notice as he slammed himself into my palm. "Agh! Damnit, remind me to never do that again..." Sam muttered as he disappeared into my body.

I stifled a laugh and said "Alright then, what should we do now?" Sam beeped and said 'Well, we should probably get the hell out of this place and find the City. After that we should find a good Fireteam to join.'

I nodded my head and pulled out an autorifle, that had an integrated suppressor, before opening the vault door and making my way through the sewer tunnel. I exited the tunnel and began to weave my way through the shadows as the sun was beginning to rise.

I walked past many Fallen bodies, making me wonder if there were any left at all. As I began to see more and more bodies, I began to realize that there may actually be no more Fallen inside of this city. I started to run and jump from building to building, indulging in the euphoric feeling of freedom.

By the time it was noon I had finally gotten out of that depressing city and into the wilds. "Do you know which way it is to the City?" I asked Sam out loud. Sam appeared in front of me and said "Yeah, it should be Northeast from here." as he stared out toward the vast expanse of trees.

"What, afraid of the woods?" I asked as I took the first step in our long journey. "N-No. I just don't want more Fallen or some Cabal to show up out of no where..." Sam retorted as he disappeared into my body once more.

I snorted and shook my head as I continued to walk into the forest in the direction of the marker Sam had placed on my map.

---

In the distance, a lone figure stood atop a large building in a ruined city, their hooded cloak dancing about in the wind. The figure was looking out over a vast expanse of forest and watched as a person began to walk in the direction of the City.

The figure let out a raspy, almost robotic sounding breath as its hood flew off of their head to reveal an obsidian black Exo with glowing red light. The Exo moved its hand to the grip of its handcannon before taking a large knife out from a sheath around its waist.

"This is Wraith-1, reporting in. I've found our target, requesting permission to follow..."
