Chapter 67: Ask Me Again!
The two of them were silent for a long time as if they still wanted to enjoy their time together. They seemed to want to stop the ticking seconds, but time keeps moving. The car clock has been changing numbers repeatedly while the two are still silent and staring at each other.
"Why don't you ask me again?" asked Aaron, who looked into Jey's clear eyes that shone bright like stars that night. His hands were eager to play with Jey's black hair, which was flowing straight and soft.
"Huh? Ask what?" Jey asked again with a confused look. She seemed unable to follow the track of Aaron's mind that seemed to be working with his own system.
"The question you asked in my study yesterday," explained Aaron.
"What... "Jey trailed her last word as if trying to play her memory on every conversation she had with Aaron in his study the day before.
Jey touched her chin with her index finger, her eyes rolling as if to follow the movement in her mind. Suddenly, one of the moments engraved in her mind appeared, making Jey widen her eyes at Aaron.
Was that silly question what Aaron meant? But why ask him again the same topic, unless ... Eih, don't tell me ... debate Jey in her mind full of doubt.
"Hm?" Aaron turned his head briefly to look at Jey with a slightly gentler look than his blank expression. Judging from the look on the woman's face, Aaron knew for sure that Jey already knew what his words meant.
"Why..." whispered Jey in a soft, barely audible voice. However, there was only Aaron and herself in the car. Even that night in the area looked empty and quiet, making Jey's voice clear to the person sitting beside her.
"I like you." Said Aaron, honest and straightforward.
Thump! Bum! Pam!
After Aaron ended his sentence, silence filled the car for the next few minutes. The two just stared at each other as if trying through every reaction to read each other's thoughts from the gaze.
Jey's heart was beating abnormally. Like the hammer hit her heart so hard that she could feel the tapping sound clearly in her ears. Various expressions clearly appeared in Jey's eyes. At first, she felt like she was in wonderland, enjoying the euphoria in her heart. But the second later, fear and thousands of what-ifs replaced those feelings.
Currently, Jey is preoccupied with her mission to solve her mother and younger brother's accident case. Besides working for the John Group, Jey also has her own secret company founded together with Lily.
Jey has been disappointed over and over again until she no longer puts her hopes and happiness on other people. From her father to Mark, they left the wound in her heart deeper and left permanent scars.
For Jey, Aaron was different from everyone she met before. One in a million sea of people. He cannot say sweet words and is sometimes too straightforward to make those around him feel awkward.
