__________

Charlus started his lessons with a disturbed mind. He was still thinking about his teacher's instructions. His teacher had never emphasized anything. This was the first time that he was given a deadline.

Charlus decided to put in extra effort and finish his NEWTs syllabus early on as that would give him more time.

Over the next few weeks, Charlus finished the NEWT level syllabus for all the subjects that he had opted for. This syllabus didn't just mean theory. It included difficult parts like wordless casting.

Since this was based on intent, Charlus had an advantage. He had started learning magic on the foundation based on intent.

Magic Schools had one fundamental problem. Since society shunned what they feared, intent was classified as Dark. While it was technically legal to learn, no school actively taught it to their students, the way they taught wordless spells was also different. They would make the students concentrate on the spell wording at repeat it in their head.

This method worked to a minor extent. It still gave the caster the advantage of surprise when the spell would be cast. However, the spell would be several times more powerful if cast verbally. This issue would not remain with Nicholas Flamel's method.

___________

Charlus was in a space that was completely different from the mind spaces he had been. Normally, the spaces would be a white room that was completely empty. During his practice sessions, the room would have some mannequins.

However, the environment that Charlus entered threw him off guard. He had entered a volcanic zone with random bursts of flame everywhere. Since it was a mind space, the zone stretched endlessly.

After adjusting his mind, Charlus actually started liking the environment. It made him feel at home, like a warm blanket covering him.

"You will be staying here for the rest of your time. Your nutrition will be taken care of. You have to become as free as you can and bring out the other form inside you. I cannot help you with this. I can only suggest. For now, I can only say this. There is no dominant or real form in you. Both represent the same entity - you. The moment you accept that you will be able to find the Phoenix in you."

Charlus' teacher uttered these words and vanished. Charlus was left behind in the Volcanic expanse.

For the first few days, Charlus just walked around. He was just exploring the area. Like his teacher had said, Charlus' nutrition was taken care of. Charlus did not feel any exhaustion no matter what he did.

After 2 weeks, Charlus felt irritated. He had nothing to do. He didn't even have a wand, so he couldn't transfigure a rock into a rabbit for some companionship.

After a month, Charlus was frustrated. He tried to find the 'Phoenix form' inside his body but he was unsuccessful. He even started doubting whether he was a part Phoenix or not.

"Damn it!!! Where's the god damned Phoenix that's supposed to be inside me??!!"

_____

One Year Later

Charlus was seen punching the rocks. He was trying to exhaust himself as much as he could so that he would be able to get out of the mind space.

A year without human companionship was driving Charlus crazy. Alongside this was also the fact that he had nothing to do.

Charlus was just running as fast as he could. He had been doing so for over 3 hours.

An hour later, Charlus tripped on one of the rocks on the ground and fell onto his face. Charlus wanted to get back onto his face but he was too exhausted.

This was not the state that Charlus wanted to achieve. He had come to this state numerous times before this. He wanted to cross this state and faint.

Charlus didn't get up and simply lay on the ground. He looked at the smoke-filled sky. Along with the heat from the nearby magma pools, Charlus started to feel drowsy. To him, it was like he was back in his bed.

Suddenly, a fire burst under Charlus and burnt him.

Charlus didn't feel any pain. Only a deeper warmth. Like someone draped a blanket over him. This fire became his favourite thing in the world. He wanted to hold onto it tightly and not let go.

He slowly drifted into a slow state where he could only think about the fire. About how much he liked it.

Suddenly, he understood something.

He had only been thinking about how to quickly get out of the mind space for the past year. He was not trying to experience the environment.

Charlus reached into his Phoenix Powers that he had some control over. He started controlling the fire around him.

He had been able to control a small fist-sized fire before. But in the mind space, Charlus was able to control a fire half his size.

Charlus started shaping the fire. The first thing that came to his mind was his Owl, Ronko. He started controlling the fire and shaped it into the shape of a little owl.

He then decided to modify the fire sculpture a little. He made the bird slimmer and longer. After he did that, deep down he felt that he had made a mistake.

His mind automatically shaped the fire on its own. The neck became even longer. The body became slender. The beak curved slightly. The wings became longer. And finally, the tail lengthened.
