Chapter 5: A story of the past
Once I woke up I slowly opened my eyes. I smiled slightly seeing him next to me. I stared at him lost in thought. He opened his eyes "You know, it's rude to stare" He said with a slight grin.
I blushed and turned away "Oh sorry" I mumbled. He chuckled quietly and turned into his human like form "No need to be sorry. Are you feeling any better?" He asked.
"Yes, I am. Thank you for healing me" I smiled and turned back over looking into his eyes.
He nodded "Of course" He said with a slight sparkle in his eyes. I giggled slightly and thought for a moment "You said that you weren't just saving me, but also yourself. What did you mean by that?" I asked.
He sighed quietly "My brother and I have never gotten along" He began. I nodded listening carefully "So one night our parents decided that we would all hunt together. We both bickered about it, but eventually we all went on the hunt. We found a watering hole full of different animals. So we all prepared and eventually grabbed a few animals. But our arguing put us all in danger. There was a stampede and I tried to lead the animals away but.." He hesitated clenching his fists.
I frowned slightly and without thinking I gently placed my hand on his. He smiled slightly at me "But I only led them to my parents. They died because of me and ever since, my brother has always hated me for it. He told the rest of our snake clan that I killed them. They believed him and now they're after me." He explained.
I nodded with my ears down and I looked at him with a sadness gleaming in my eyes. He cleared his throat and sat up. I sat up in front of him "It's not your fault" I said softly.
"You don't know that" He stated.
"Trust me, I do. It isn't your fault" I said smiling gently. He smiled slightly "Why are you being nice to me?" He asked.
"Because you helped me. Because I know that you're a good person. In some ways, we're the same" I told him. He shook his head "You know nothing about me, cat. So whatever game you're playing, I'm not buying it. I think that's enough story telling for one day" He stated standing up and gathering a few of his things.
