Chapter 3: CHAPTER 1: A Beginning

Skylee P.O.V

"Mum!" I grumbled, clutching the phone tightly against my left ear. I didn't want to break my phone when I didn't have my bodyguards to recover the backup.

I was so annoyed at her. I thought my parents had finally accepted the fact that I no longer need people to take care of me. But no... Here I was after the tiring 5-hour flight, sitting in the Taxi to reach my new home, and arguing with my Mum.

"Sky, my baby, listen to me. It's for your own help, and of course, for my relief that you are safe there." Mum's voice softly echoed through the phone. As she tried her best to persuade me and reasoned out.

"Seriously! But why so many people? I'm grown up now, and I can manage everything on my own." She knew very well that I wasn't a person from whom she could win easily.

"Billiyorum, but..." She paused and I already imagined her cute pout forming over her lips, "You are going to live alone for the first time, that too without me. It's natural for me to get worked up."

I sighed. She was worried because I always lived with her, and now moving to a totally different city had freaked her out. So, she had prepared an army consisting of four people to take care of me. And for the past ten minutes, we were persuading... No... We were arguing, which wasn't reaching anywhere. We were just going round and round with the same words.

"You don't have to be. Brother Xander is here too," I softly reminded her.

"Billiyorum," she emphasized, "that's what hinders me from taking too much tension. He will take care of you very well, and you should listen to him, tamam?" She ordered. I rolled my eyes.

"Mum! We are not done yet," I said and looked outside the window. We were stopped at a red signal and let me say it was so crowded! New York was a big crowded city.

"I guess, we are!" Her voice had a sheepish smile.

"Mum!" I called out totally annoyed, "Just persuade me with one damn reason."

I realized later that I shouldn't have said that.

"Canım," she coed, "I'm your mother and I know you better than anyone." I could again clearly imagine her signature smirk appearing on her lips. I internally cursed.

"Do you know how to cook? Especially your favorite barbecue pizza. No! Have you ever done household choruses like cleaning and washing? No! You don't even know how to protect yourself from robbers, do you? Can you guard 24/7 in your own house like a guard? No! Do..." And she continued like that.

I scrunched my nose up and slapped my forehead. The Taxi driver looked at me weirdly through the rearview mirror. I shot him a glare and he looked away, agitated.

Why the hell did I even ask her for a reason? All of her reasons were right though.

"Tamam Tamam, Geez, Mum, anladım," I said, silently accepting my defeat with a huff. Defeat, something I rarely accept without a fight.

"That's like my girl," she again coed, making me roll my eyes.

"And yes, stay away from trouble." She added like an afterthought.

"I'll try my best." It was my time to grin.

The driver again looked at me and again earned a dead glare from me.

"Quine Skylee Kingston!" Mom warned.

"Tamam Tamam, I'll call you later. Say selam to Baba. Bye! Take care!" I said and cut the call, grinning like an idiot.

The driver again looked at me. My smile vanished and I threw a dagger at him as I said, "What is your problem? The road is in your front, not here in the back."

"Yes, ma'am. Sorry, ma'am," he blabbered as his eyes fixed on the road for the next of the ride.

Five minutes later, I was standing in front of a beautiful metal fence gate. A guard, who was wearing a black suit, his eyes hidden under his black glasses and an earpiece connected to his ear, came forward. I silently observed him as he greeted me then collected my luggage from the Taxi. He was tall, had black hair, tanned skin, and a muscular body. It meant that he was not just an ordinary gate guard. His personality literally gave me the vibe of a bodyguard.

"This way, ma'am." He guided me the way. I slipped my guitar bag over my shoulder and followed him.

We went inside the gate and a beautiful lawn came into view. It was beautiful and well maintained. Most of the area was covered with crisp grass while plants and flower vases made it more attractive. I smiled as I walked behind the guard on the paved path that was in the middle of the lawn, leading the way to the door.

Once I entered the house, my smile widened. The interior of the house was so beautiful and elegant. It was a combination of black, red, and white, all of my most-liked colors.

Brother Xander gave a warm welcome hug as he asked, "Welcome! Did you like it?"

"It's beautiful!" I smiled at him.

As I sat on the sofa in the lounge, I couldn't help but look around. Mum surely had selected a house according to my taste. It was a two-floor house. The ground floor had an open kitchen on the left with a wooden four-chair dining table near it, seven-seater red-velvet comfortable sofas in the center, and a big LCD TV right in front of them. There was also a wooden swing couch on the left near the staircase.

"How was the flight?" Brother Xander asked as he sat opposite me.

"As usual, tiring," I rubbed my eyes as I passed him a tired smile.

"Your room is upstairs, the first door near the stairs. Eat something first then go and get some rest." He smiled back.

"Tamam."

"Now I have to go, but..." He looked at his wristwatch, "Don't you dare to leave this house without my permission. And if there are some freaking emergencies, you are ought to bring your guards with you. The guard at the front door, his name is George."

"You guys seriously won't let me live in peace." I made a face at him.

But ignoring me, he continued, "The maid who will handle all the house stuff, her name is Asli."

"Asli?" I asked, looking at her. She had sharp features with a straight face, brown hair and eyes, and no signs of politeness.

"Yes. She's a Turkish woman and she's going to stay with you," he said as his gaze went towards her. There was something in his eyes that irked me.

"What?" I couldn't help asking him. His gaze shifted to me with his infamous poker look that made me raise my brows.

Is there something I don't know?

"What what?"

"Never mind." I let the topic go as I again looked at Asli. She looked back at me. She seemed so bitchy type with those brown distant eyes and so sharp facial features.

"Your two bodyguards." Brother Xander's voice made me look at him as he gestured towards Number 1 and Number 2.

I rolled my eyes. And here I thought I had succeeded in leaving them behind. Well, these two were with me since the start of high school. I never memorized their names, so I named them 'Number 1' and 'Number 2'. What? It's way too easy to remember and who has the time to memorize so many names? I nodded at them.

"And your school is starting tomorrow. I'll accompany you on your first day." He stood up as he again looked at his wristwatch. "For now, go eat something. Then get some rest. I'll be going now."

"Tamam." I nodded as I also stood up.

"Wait... What about my club nights?" I suddenly asked. I liked to spend my time alone in the clubs. I mean, what's the use of going somewhere with friends? It's useless. They were just a barrage of voices. So I always traveled alone or sometimes with Mum.

Also, going to the clubs didn't mean going all tipsy, and wild, and more prominently, out of limits. I had my limits and despite being the biggest trouble maker of my family, I was the purest soul. I hadn't even kissed anyone yet. I was kinda proud of it too became those horny teenage boys were way too bad to even touch me. I just liked to spend my time alone in clubs, enjoying music and drinking good Champagne.

"I'm still finding the best club that'll be safe for you, so, wait for a little more," he said and added, "Call me if you need anything."

"Tamam." I once again nodded as he left after guiding me like a big brother.

Brother Xander was like a brother figure to me. He was with me since childhood. Basically, he was my mother's best friend plus my father's personal and financial lawyer. So he pretty much knew everything about me as a parent.

Sometimes, I wish if, only, he was of my age. He was in his early thirties. And... He was damn handsome! Those dark brown hair and beautiful grey eyes, on top of that, his facial features were just so perfect. But... He already was in love with a girl name 'Alana', and honestly, I always had seen him as a big brother.

After eating lunch, I moved upstairs towards my room. A huge smile broke down over my lips as I looked at my room. The walls were white-painted and the furniture was a combination of red, black, and white.

I settled my guitar on the bed and looked around the room again. There was a wall-size window, near it was a wooden swing, then there was a Queen sized bed, a wall-sized mirror, and a walk-in closet. The room had sophisticated vibes just the way I like it.

I trudged towards the washroom door. I took a warm bath and changed into a pair of shorts and a loose top. As I combed my hair, I wonder what was stored for me in my life? I was going to live alone in this house. It wasn't like I had soo many things to ponder over, but there was this thing... A weird feeling within that something was going to change. Something big was in its way.

Finally, when I slipped over the bed, I couldn't sleep. So I picked my guitar bag and took it out. I hummed as I started to play my favorite rhythm.

It was a lullaby Mum often sang for me whenever I couldn't sleep.

My dear close your eyes,

let the sleep roll in.

Let it shield your deepest fear.

Let it hide your all fears.

As I hummed the lyrics, I felt myself losing in sleep.

My dear dream about a life,

fill it with love.

Just like Roses are red,

express they love.

They make you smile,

and make you love the dark night.

And before going to the next part. My eyelid felt so heavy and before I knew it, I drifted into a deep slumber.
