Chapter 13: 013̸̛̪̰͖̦̱͈̲̗̃̏͋́̎̉̎͑̚

As we entered the hall, all that could be heard were worthless incessant murmuring and the scrutinizing gazes of the useless adults, the children of said humans locked their stares of jealousy onto me. This wretched world, I will free everyone from it.

There was a large crystal orb in the centre of the hall, the King’s throne positioned off to the side of the stage to spectate, a podium with the Holy Luvre placed behind the crystal orb and rows of seats in front of the stage to form an aisle through the middle from the door to the stage.

Despite having gone through this situation many times already from my previous lives, none of the contempt they look at me has changed, every emotion they feel, even the pressure that they cause. Even if I free them, will this ever change? Will they even have their own free will? Do I even have the power to free them?

I am going to die anyway. If I'm caught I might not live another life, so I will at least do everything I can to unveil the truth, I won't let her sacrifice be in vain. Even if it means that I have to rebel against my so-called 'fate', l will definitely do it.

Father and I walked to the steps directly before the stage where we went separate ways, he proceeded to turn to the right while I turned to the left to line up alongside the other children who were also getting tested. The magic awakening test is taken by all but usually, only nobles since commoners typically have lower mana within them but the main reason is due to the insults of the nobles, only people whose wills are strong enough can withstand the disgusting treatment nobles give to commoners merely because nobles believe that they are superior.

As expected, Evie Luxiere is standing right beside me, the order is still the same. Evie Luxiere the daughter of a baron does the test where she gains the rare light magic, Corlissa Veronique does the test right after her, despite being the daughter of a duke she is trash. Although no one clearly stated it since she was the daughter of a powerful duke, they were all insulting her position, especially comparing her to Evie to disgrace her name.

Insults practically surged throughout the air, those images have been forever burned into my soul. Even after all these lives, those scars still remain, every reminder I get, the cold bite of death plagues my body. All I can do now is face forward and ensure that my predecessor’s life didn’t go to waste.

“His Majesty, King Merillis has arrived,” a voice bellowed, snapping me out of my stupor.

The test is finally commencing.

For some reason, I completely forgot how boring this was...I can feel my eyelids becoming heavy, sleep seems so tempting right now, like a forbidden fruit.

‘Is she- yeah she is, who in their right mind SLEEPS at the magic awakening test?! I suppose that proves how amazing my daughter is but still, SLEEPING AT THE TEST?! All those revolting nobles began scorning my adorable daughter after she flopped onto the ground and began snoring cutely- But still, those nobles dare to hold ill-intent in their gazes towards my daughter, I will ensure that they are purged,’ Eston Veronique ranted in his mind.

More...irrelevant- ahem, I mean...people did the test and Corlissa was in a great comfortable slumber until she awoke at the mention of Evie’s name.

“Evie Luxiere,” announced the Maitre from behind the podium.

I quickly awoke only to find that it was nearly my turn and it was finally time for the drama to begin. Evie walked up to the stage where the crystal ball was situated, causing the spectators to comment on her beauty.

“Place your hand onto the crystal ball, feel the magic flowing through your veins and pour all your magic into the orb. The colour that it glows represents the affinity, the brightness that it glows at is the amount of magic power you hold,” the Maitre directed.

Evie placed her hand onto the orb and began pouring her magic into the crystal. The crystal then glowed a bright white light engulfing past the stage and half the hall, causing everyone in the hall to shield their eyes except for the nobles that were experienced enough to be able to cast a spell to remove the glare of the light. Despite Corlissa not yet having taken magic lessons, her natural latent ability automatically protected her from the glare of light. Although practically unnoticeable to the eyes of a normal person, Corlissa noticed something amiss, there was a faint line of scarlet red coursing throughout the orb of light.

Of course, the Maitre was taken aback by the revelation that it was the holy pure light from the heavens.

“E-Evie Luxiere, the B-Blessed Child of G-God, wielder of the rare light magic,” he managed to clichédly stutter out, a series of gasps resonated throughout the hall and muttering erupted from the nobles whose characteristic trait is to love gossiping.

The Maitre managed to compose himself and announced for the next person to come up onto the stage, that person would be Corlissa Veronique. Due to the high standards that everyone held after Evie’s test, in Corlissa’s past lives, she was subjected to immediate scorn when her results were revealed.

All the spectators were bored since they believed that nothing could compare to being blessed by God with light magic thus they viewed Corlissa with more negativity and harshness.

Corlissa walked onto the stage somehow not noticing the malicious side smirk directed at her from Evie when they passed each other, the Maitre also didn’t hold the same amount of eagerness compared to when Evie did the test and didn’t explain the instructions of the test. Although Corlissa still proceeded with the test without a care in the world for the blatant disrespect from everyone else aside from her father, even her mother disregarded her daughter.

As Corlissa poured her magic into the crystal ball, an ‘incorrect’ occurrence happened, instead of the void, unchanging crystal orb representing no mana nor magic affinity, multiple glows emitted from the orb.

A galaxy lit up the entire hall, even reaching out to outside the hall through the door, circulating within the orb along with the galaxy was black, a royal glistening blue and a clear object of mass. This was the first, ever, in the entire history of the universe. Surpassing the very first Grand Mage, surpassing even the depictions of God. Corlissa Veronique received an apology from destiny itself.

Having an affinity with 4 different magics, an unprecedented feat, even the first Grand Mage held only 2 affinities, spatial and light.

“Corlissa Veronique...4...magic affinities...water magic...wind magic...d-dark magic...and an u-un-unknown magic..?” the Maitre managed to mutter out despite the disparity.

Everyone was still in a stupor due to the results of the test yet the galaxy still shone brightly yet was flickering since Corlissa was playing with the orb, quite fascinated by the fact that it would light up when she touched it and didn’t when she pulled her finger away. She then began experimenting with what it would take to make it light up, normally they are instructed to place their entire hand on the orb since that was the easiest way for some magic to pour into the orb for children who were still beginners to magic.

Typically the more magic poured into the orb the brighter it’ll glow, so the truly intriguing yet nonsensical occurrence was that Corlissa could infuse magic into her breath and still have the same 4 affinities show up glowing to the same extent after she blew on the orb. Logically, this shouldn’t be possible but for some reason, the law of common sense did not work on Corlissa.

This was only the beginning of Corlissa paving her way out of her death bed. She had now begun the race with death, attempting to outrun the march of death that had begun at her birth. Perhaps she may make it to a happy ending or she may be overtaken by the fate of a villainess and the destiny of death that comes with it.
