Chapter 3: Arriving in Town

Adam was walking at a leisure pace, following the dirt road towards the small town. I followed closely behind, observing him. I can tell from the way he is walking that he is right handed and in a good mood, not that it really matters.

Why am I picking up on stuff like this?

"So, how long do you plan to stay in town?"

"A while. Why?"

"Not many people come here all that often, so I was just wondering."

The two of us continued walking together for a few more minutes before we finally arrived at the town, though a better word for it would be a village. A nice wooden fence surrounded it, and there were about sixteen houses in total. There also appeared to be an inn.

"This is it, welcome to our little town. The inn is over there, and if you need anything, just ask around for me." He paused for a moment as he mentioned the inn, almost as if going into a love trance. I don't know how, but I could feel his attraction to someone in the inn.

"This is a small town and we all know each other fairly well, so someone should probably know where to find me."

"Okay, thank you for your help."

"Of course, no problem."

At that, Adam began to walk away, heading towards some fields, probably to work.

This village is absolutely lovely! There is a small forest off to the east, and to the west, grassy plains that go on as far as the eye can see, even my eyes. The houses were all of simple design, but they all had their own individual charm that set them apart from each other. Small flowers were growing all around the town, only adding to its incredible beauty. Along with the houses and the inn, there was one building that was clearly different from the rest. It was larger, made with better materials, and prettier. I imagine it would belong to the village chief.

Well anyways, I can't just admire this town all day, I should head over to the inn and get situated.

I began looking through the windows of the inn, even though I was pretty far away from it, to see inside as I began walking over. From what I can see, there are two ladies in there, one older and heavier that the other. I don't mean heavier in a bad way though. In fact, it suits how I would imagine someone running an inn would look like in a fantasy world. The other girl, younger and slimmer than the other, was busy sweeping the floors. She is probably who Adam likes. Both ladies had black hair and green eyes, which leaves me to believe they are related.

After only a few moments of walking, I arrive at the door to the inn. For being a small village inn, this place is in surprisingly good shape. In fact, the entire village is in good shape.

I wonder why? Whatever, it doesn't matter.

I put my hand on the door handle of the inn, twisting it and letting myself in.

"Oh my, welcome! How can I help you today?"

I quickly scanned the room I stood in along with the two ladies. There was a staircase immediately left of the door that probably led to the rooms for guests. Straight ahead from the door, the older lady sat in a wooden chair behind a small desk. There was a room behind the desk that I imagine is where they slept. The floors were wooden and speck free, which is kind of incredible in my opinion. Cleaning is hard. Also on the floor sat a simple red carpet. There were two leather chairs on either side of the carpet, and directly between them, a small table.

The other lady was busy sweeping. She quickly looked up and smiled at me when I entered, but then went right back to work. Both of them had simple grey handkerchiefs wrapped in their hair.

"I was hoping to have a room for the next few nights, but I should be clear that I don't have any money."

"You don't have any money? Well that is an issue, but we can work that out later. My name is Lucy, and this here is my daughter, Mildred. What is your name sweetie?"

"My name is Estelle."

"Okay Estelle, why don't I take you to your room. We can discuss your options there."

She is nice, letting me get a room first and working out a solution later. Most people in my old world would have asked me to leave. Plus, I can tell that she is a good person.

"Yes please."

With a small smile on my face, I follow Lucy up the staircase and onto the second floor. We stop at the first door and she unlocks it and let's the both of us in, closing the door behind her.
