Chapter 2: Chapter 2

"One caramel macchiato, please!" I yelled at our chef/boss, Brandon, or as I called him, Bandan.

"Got it, please help Alex when you're done!" Bandan told me.

I shot him a wink and went towards Alex who was running around. I waved at her to come over. She came by in a flash. She was out of breath when she came over.

"Take a break. I can handle it a little. Brandon wants you to go to him too." I patted her on the back.

"Thanks." She rubbed my head.

I rolled my eyes.

Alex is my co worker that worked here with me since day one. When this cafe opened, surprisingly Alex and I came in the same day. There were many applicants, but Brandon only chose us. He asked if it was okay if it was only two of us, and we told him it was okay. We don't know why he only wants two of us, but it made me and Alex even closer.

Alex goes to my rival school and is the same age as me. She's really pretty to be honest. She has curly golden locks with light blue eyes. She has a slender figure due to running a lot and her hands are cold all the time which I love. I love holding her hands since my hands get hot.

"Hi, can I actually give you this?" One of the customer's asked.

It was a little boy, holding a picture of me and Alex working. Not going to lie, it was cute. I smiled and bent down. I took the picture and thanked him.

"How about I give you a free cake? What flavor do you want?" I asked.

"No, no! It's fine. He doesn't need it, or let us pay you for it!" The mom rejected my offer.

I looked at the mom and shook my head.

"He spent his time drawing this beautiful picture. The least I can do is give you guys a slice. So what do you say?" I asked the boy.

"Vanilla, please!" He showed off his smile which had his two front teeth missing.

I nodded and ran to the kitchen. I saw Bandan and Alex talking about something, but I went over to the cake table. I yelled out that this cake is going to a kid, and he can take it out of my pay. I saw the caramel macchiato was done and took it too.

I went back to the kid and give him his cake and went over to the girl who ordered the macchiato. But, she looked busy reading a book. She looked so elegant, so pretty. Somehow she looked so familiar, but I don't know where.

I don't want to bother her, so I put her coffee down quietly. Then, her eyes shot up from her book and saw the coffee before looking at me.

"Thank you, Katelyn." She thanked me.

"If you're here for some peace and quiet, early in the morning is when people come less." I advised her.

She nodded, "will keep that in mind. Do you work mornings?"

I shook my head, "Usually my boss is here. I come during the afternoons and night."

"Then I'll come afternoons and night." She continued to read her book.

I felt my cheeks getting hot, so I quickly walked away. I saw Alex and Brandon stare at me through the window. Once our eyes met, they pretended that they weren't staring.

Wow. Wow. I see how it is.

Closing time quickly came, and it was pretty empty. Only a few customers were left, and that girl was still here, reading. Brandon came to me and pointed towards the girl.

"Why don't you tell her to leave?" He asked.

My face turned red, "W-why?"

"Seems like a fan of yours." He shrugged.

"You do it, Alex!" I told her.

I saw her head pop out from the kitchen with a scraper.

"Cleaning the kitchen." She said.

I rolled my eyes at them. I went over to the girl, and she looked at me then looked at the time.

"Oh, it's time. Hm, that felt very short." She started to stand up.

I just gave a little smile. I don't know what to say. Then, I saw her reach in her pocket and took out her wallet. She pulled out a $100 and handed it to me. After, she started to walk towards the door.

"Huh? Eh! Wait, take this back! This is too much!" I yelled to her.

But, she walked right out. I turned back to Brandon and Alex who were wide eyed. I held the hundred in my hand, speechless.

That night, I went home, still speechless and curious on who she is. I swear I saw her somewhere, but I don't know where. It was weird.

"I'm home." I came into my house, taking off my shoes.

"Hey." My step dad welcomed me back.

I nodded at him, looking to see where my mom was.

"Your mom's not home. She's at work." He said, going back into the kitchen.

I nodded.

"How was work?" He asked.

I sat down on the the kitchen table, watching him cook.

"It was good. Someone tipped me a hundred." I told him.

"Oh wow, that's awesome!" He put some cooked chicken on a plate.

"Yeah."

"If you changed your style a bit and made yourself more available, you know you would find a girlfriend." He handed me the plate.

Ah, the girlfriend talk again. I don't know why, but he is obsessed with me finding a girlfriend after I broke up with my first girlfriend.

Freshman year, I met a girl when looking for jobs. She was a year older than me and sweet. We dated for two years and broke up when I was a junior in high school. She didn't love me anymore and liked this dude which was understandable. Ever since, I just stayed single. We cut contact and never talked again. Now, I just want to finish senior year and go places.

"I don't need anyone except myself. It's a me thing." I told him, chewing on the piece of chicken.

"Swallow before you speak. But, wouldn't it be nice to meet someone and have them by your side?"

"No." I stood up and washed my dish before heading up to my room.

I threw my bag on the floor and flopped on my bed.

"So fucking tired." I mumbled as I closed my eyes.

When I woke up, the birds were chirping. I slid on a random hoodie and jeans. I went downstairs to see my mom and step dad talking and cooking breakfast together. Ah, young love, am I right?

I quickly greeted them and ate a small apple. When I was ready to go, I kissed their cheeks and headed out to school. The walk to school was like a fifteen minute walk. Five minutes if I ran.

Once I entered the school's premise, I put my earphones on and slouched. When I moved here, I used to do this all the time so I avoided collision. My old school had a light of fights, so I learned to stay by yourself and only have like one or two friends.

"Yo, yo!" Speak of the devil.

I turned around and saw Matt Montgomery, my other best friend aside from Alex. He pat my back aggressively as he caught up with me.

"Hey." I gave him a little smile.

"How was your job?" He asked.

"Good, some girl gave me a hundo though." I flexed the bill.

"Oooo get that money." He swung his arm around my neck.

I laughed a bit before going in the school. We both separated and headed to class early. We both didn't like being late. Either we're on time, or we're early. I think today he's coming over. I looked at my phone and nodded.

A confirmation text from him that he is coming over. We have days where we just go over to each other's houses to just chill. We switch houses each week. This week is mine, and thankfully, I don't have work so we can just watch some shows.

Now, I was walking to... ah business class. Marketing, to be exact. Don't really like it. Too much extroverted people trying to make it big. I know some people can, but I barely know anyone in there.

When I walked in, I already saw people sitting on the stage. We had to be in the auditorium for the next month. People are doing construction in the business room. Some people were in a crowd surrounding someone. I don't know who and will never get to.

I sat all the way in the back. The only people I saw sitting in the back were people on their phones. Once I sat down, I switched my songs and watched the stage. People were so loud asking something from someone. I could barely hear them.

"Please..."

"For us..."

That's all I heard. Actually, I'm honestly surprised people were here early. I wonder why. The teacher better hurry up though, or else I might fall asleep. My eyes were getting heavy with sleep.

Slowly, I closed my eyes. Right when I was about to close my eyes, I heard people cheering which scared me. I jumped in my seat, eyes shot open to look at what people were cheering about. Then, a violin melody flowed, echoing in the auditorium. I took my earphones out and heard it clearly.

People started to disperse, trying to let the person play have space. When I saw that person, my jaw dropped. It was the girl who gave me a hundred dollar. I was right from yesterday. She looked so elegant. Her whole space was just like untouchable. Her playing was... speechless. I didn't know what to say.

Once she was done, applause filled up the room. She looked back up to the audience, and quickly, our eyes met. She gave a smile and bowed, letting her light brown fall past her shoulders.

The teacher went on stage and talked to that girl before she went down from the stage and sat in front of the room. I put my earphones on and sighed. As I played my music, all I could remember was her violin playing.

Class ended pretty short after that. When the bell rang, I packed up my bag and saw people racing out. I took the hundred dollar from my bag and tried to find the violin girl. She was still crowded by people. But then, people started to separate from her. I took my chance and went up to her.

"Hello." She smiled, mischievously at me.

"Here." I held the hundred bill in my hand.

She looked down at it and tilted her head at me.

"Are you trying to buy me?" She chuckled.

I rolled my eyes.

"Take it back. I don't need it." I said.

I saw people stare at us as I held the hundred in my hand. Ah, it looks like a drug deal or something.

"Hm... meet me in the west wing second floor after school and maybe I'll take back the hundred." She whispered in my ear.

I felt my face getting red again. She walked away from our spot, and I saw her smiling at me.

Ugh, what is wrong with that girl!
