Chapter 6: Chapter Six: Taylor Henderson

I slowly woke up to a sharp pain coming from my abdomen. I peered down, fearful of what I might find. My eyes were met with the gruesome sight of a jagged piece of metal sticking up through my stomach. Once the initial nausea had subsided, I took a deep breath and used my arms and legs to lift my body straight up and winced as the metal painfully slid out of my body. I shuffled and dropped onto an empty space of ground a few feet away before breathing again. I could very well be the only survivor of the crew, stranded and wounded on an alien planet all alone. Should I have been so lucky.

"Stop napping you pansycake!"

Barked a gruff voice to my left. Lieutenant Lorries loved calling me names, and dying wouldn't save me from his angry commands.

"I'm hurt, sir."

He growled

"Suck it up, we've got work to do"

Why do I always have to be right, but only when it's bad for me? I sat up gingerly, clutching the protesting hole in my stomach. Upon seeing the wound, Lieutenant Lorries nodded,

"You're not much use in that condition, Private Henderson will be back shortly with medical supplies, sit still until then."

He spun on his heel and took only seconds before he started screaming at the mechanic about not being able to repair the crashed ship. I laid back carefully against the debris behind me and sighed. Why couldn't I have joined the navy and worked on seaships? And of course it was up to Miss Perfect to save me. How else was it going to go? She never messes up, she outdoes everyone else at everything and she's always the favorite. And everyone we knew on Earth was dead, if Earth still existed, for all we know, Earth could have been destroyed in a nuclear apocalypse or been struck by a comet.

We could be the last remnants of humanity. I thought back to my time on Earth remembering my little sister, Ava. I had promised her I'd be back for her, and she would never see me again.

She didn't know the truth, that we were going to be frozen for 150 years and sent across the universe. Suddenly I was hit with a terrible realization brought upon by my own thoughts, our ship had been supplied with enough fuel to last for twice as long as we had been frozen, which means that the ship had been sabotaged or damaged in some way. I painfully rose to my feet and searched around until I found Lieutenant Lorries. When I found him I immediately stated my intentions,

"Permission to investigate the ship's wreckage."

He turned to me, a furry brow raising as he replied,

"Under what reasoning, private?"

"The ship crashed because it was out of fuel, but we had enough fuel to last twice as long as it did."

Realization lit up his face as he realized exactly what I was implying,

"You have my permission to accompany me as I investigate, Private."
