Chapter 1: ( 1 )

A patient opened his eyes, and blinding white light immediately filled in. Beep, beep, beep. What's that? He shut his eyes, groaning as he struggled to get up. Everything hurts. He thought. Why does everything hurt? He finally sat up and rubbed his eyes. Slowly, he opened them and saw himself in a green patient's outfit, lying on top of a howpital bed. Okay. He turned his head, it was painful, as if he was paralysed.

'Hey, slowly now. Don't push yourself.' A gentle voice said.

That made him turn faster towards the direction of whoever it was, but a hand stopped him. Since when do hands feel like that? A face popped up in his area of vision. Where am I? He wanted to ask. Who am I? 'Hello, I am Kelly, your nurse. You have been in a coma and you are in Garland Hospital. Your name is Ely.'

The nurse had curly dirty blonde hair ticke into a neat bun, and the normal nurse's uniform. She looked concerned.

Ely frowned. 'How did I...?' He trailed off, unsure what to ask. 'How long have I.....? No, he shook his head, he was so confused.

'Hey, its okay. Alright, you got in a coma because, well, people say you got attacked and left you for dead in an alley, all your belongings gone. And um, you have been in this coma for three months.'

'Uh, are the side effects of coma amnesia? I don't remember who I am, where I am, where I live, I dont even remember a loved one or family! I exclaimed, frustrated.

The nurse nodded, 'Sometimes, but it is rare. Ok first, lets see your file. Your name is..... Elysium Shaw, you live in 289th Street, um, currently single, and no known relatives, except Hadrian Shaw, your grandfather who passed away... last month.' She gave the details, expecting me to remember, but I stared at her blankly, unsure and confused.

Ely sighed. He was still stuck in bed, the doctor insisting he take some tests to make sure he was physically and mentally stable. He was sick of the tests, nurse and doctors always running in to take his blood pressure or some other tests. It had been a few hours since the conversation with Kelly, his nurse. From what he knew, which is most of what the nurse told him, he had a scar running down his face on the left side and a bruise. There were a few scratches here and there, but the most serious injury was the blow to his head that caused the dilemma he was in now.

After the endless tests, Ely finally was able to collect bis belongings, change into his old clpthes and get out of the hospital. What sort of person wears just a shirt in the middle of autumn? I suppose I am. He thought. He wore a gray long sleeved shirt and black pants, and he was shivering everytime a breeze blew by. So, the first thing he did was find his wallet and ran to the closest clothing store. He picked out a dark blue jacket and put it on, glad to be warm again.

He then stepped out of the store, before realizing that he had no idea where he was and where he lived. He groaned, and looked around, hoping for a sign for his current location. He had never felt this lost, or has he? He still couldn't remember. He saw a big ad on a billboard and it said,

"GARLAND CITY :WHERE MIRACLES HAPPEN". He laughed in spite of himself. Ha, a miracle would be nice right about now, maybe my memories please? God, sometimes city mottos were so cheesy. After a minute of thought he thought of something.

Pulling out his wallet, he flipped through until he found what he wanted: his ID. Reading it, he found out his address was not even in this city. He groaned and stomped his foot, not even caring about the stares people gave him. He pulled out his phone, but it needed a password too. Aghh, why does this have to be so hard? He was considering asking someone for help when numbers flashed in his mind. 273849. He wondered if it was his password, but that seemed to easy. Worth a try though, he had nothing to lose. 273849, he typed. The screen blinked and immediately showed the homescreen. The background was a picture of an adorable German Sheperd. Could that be my dog? Or is it a picture from the Internet?

He sighed, and opened Google. Clicking the search bar, he typed: Cavalier City. It was loading for a while, then it showed some results. A city actually near Garland City, and was pretty small, too. He then found Google Maps and typed in his address. He would've drove a car, but he doubted he could find it, or even remember where it was, so he just counted his money and called a taxi. In the taxi, he saw that, despite all his troubles, he could appreciate the beauty of this city, even though he supposedly got a coma here.

Reaching his house he paid the taxi driver his money and looked at his house. It was big, and white, with oak brown roofs and curtains puled over the windows. Pulling out a small bunch of keys, he fiddled with then until he got the right one. Slowly, he stepped into his house, unsure what to do about his current problem, or how he was supposed to pay the hospital bills.
