Chapter 61: I am the Body of my Wand!
So, Garrick Ollivander, instead of being helpless and dejected, became full of life and vitality, and he decided to close his shop for three days to help me find a wand core and a wand wood, that wood accept me.
He told me, that the most ideal solution would have been a staff, which would be thick and clumsy, but will better channel my magic, at the cost of inability to do spells, which need specific gestures and movement, which the staff can simply not provide.
At that thought, I refused to be handicapped, when I can simply ask to inherit the Elder Wand, if that is the case. But I refuse to do that, as it is my last resort, if nothing else works.
I asked Garrick if we could choose the wand wood first.
He placed small uncut pieces of wood, from the most vibrant and firm, to the most obscure and ancient. There was even a branch from the Snakewood, from Ilvermony School, which was supposedly one of his most priced possession, as he postulated a wand made from this wood, would be the most powerful wand a healer can ever hold.
I remembered something, and took a break from Garrick, and looked up Ilvermony and Snakewood on the smartphone. It showed a story about the Gaunts and the witch who escaped her aunt, and all too obscure knowledge, I didn't care about like Isolt was the headmistress of Ilvermony.
But what mattered was that the Snakewood Tree from the Ilvermony school is the tree which sprung from Salazar Slytherin's wand, which was made of Snakewood and Basilisk horn.
I came to Garrick, and told him excitedly. "You showed me the prized possession of yours, and I remember reading something. If I am right, you could make your most powerful wand from that wood."
He looked at me in interest, and said. "What would that be, young man?"
I told him, "Salazar Slytherin made his own wand from a Snakewood and Basilisk horn. I have the oldest and most powerful of Basilisks resting in the Hogwarts ground, when I released her from the Chamber of Secrets."
He looked at me with unhidden glee and jumped in place, "You might be onto something there, Mr. Aethelred. Will the Basilisk offer her horn to you?"
I shrugged. "I don't know. Do they grow back?"
He thought about it. "I don't think I read either way. Perhaps, we could ask her. Albus tells me, you are quite a linguist."
"Yes, but that's not all he told you, did he?" I asked.
"I know about your talents and gifts, Mr. Aethelred, and as every witch and wizard who has come to my shop will attest, I am discreet about my clients." I nodded to show him his due respect.
"And he informed me, merely because he thought to ask, if we could use the core from your many forms. But as I told him, not only will that be detrimental, as it will force your magic to rely on one of those many forms, while significantly weakening the others."
Seeing the gasp of surprise, as he rejected my idea of OP wand, he continued in understanding. "That is only my guess, as there haven't been anyone like you in Britain, but trust me Mr. Aethelred, even using your strongest forms, even if they can rival a true creature, or even surpass them, would never serve as a wand core, even your own."
I nodded as I understood the basic principle behind his reasoning. "Then, what if we could use the cores from real creatures, whose forms I take. They are not that difficult to procure."
Instead of even thinking about it, he laughed loudly. I was feeling like a little boy, who bit more than he can chew, which might be in this case, but it still felt humiliating.
