Chapter 3: Lunar new year contest 2021
As far as I could remember Lunar new year was a day of celebration and gathering together to have fun and enjoyed the precious moment together, greeting each other with blessings and kind words.
Our family culture
Reunion dinner - a time to sit together and shared moments and memories of past times.
After dinner we would played with other kids and then stayed very late.
The 1st day of lunar year, putting on new cloths prepared by our parents and we would greet our parents with suspicion word like 'a good health, Kong Heo Fatt Choy, Wan Si Lu Yi. Daddy and mummy will bless us with the ang pow and also words of encouragement.
Eating lunar new year goodies like peanut balls, menon seeds, coconut strips. We would also brought fire crackers and shooting stars. We were all giggles and laughed when we tried to light up fire crackers and covered it with an empty milk can and watching it flew high in the air. Each showing their skills and courage. The best show was to watch a strings of fire crackers hanging on long bamboo being lighted up and exploded. The debris of fire crackers all red falling on the floor and walking on it was like walking on red carpets.
We would also run around and watch lion dances and how they "chai Qing", and tried to imitate the steps and drum strokes by hitting the dustbin.
Turning redifusion volume very loud and listening to the lunar new year song, humming along.
Visiting places like botanical garden, haw par villa, great world city, new world city. As we were a big family so daddy and mummy would not bring us for movies as that will cost a lot.
These are all the good and precious memories that would stuck in my mind the rest of my mind. I love both of you daddy and mummy as even though we are poor but both of you had worked hard to gave us the best that both of you could afford. Thank you daddy - even though you have passed on.
