Chapter 4: Chapter 2 Part 3

Magus in Marvel

Chapter 2 Part 3

By: Pineappl3

I had gone a full day struggling to digest the dry bits of information the teachers had tried to shove down my throats. My afternoon teachers had been mad when they had figured out I skipped their classes yesterday, and even threatened me with detention.

'At least the textbook is interesting. I wish I had more though. Already finished the ones I was issued. Now I really have no reason to attend class.' Brought from my thoughts from the doorbell, I looked over to Nixie who understood my meaning.

Getting up from her seat, she headed downstairs to see who it was. 'It's probably my apprentice, too shy to enter my house.' I chucked thinking how I had to convince someone to be my apprentice.

"Athena, make sure you are listening too. Once I start to get more students, you will be teaching them the basics." I turned to look at my creation. She had yet again evolved, this time her voice was indistinguishable from a real person's and she had lifelike expressions.

I heard a knock at my door and I was greeted with the sight of my apprentice and Nixie. I stood and made my way over. "Felicia, good of you to join us. Let's begin."

Looking confused, she just stared at me for a moment. "You-you were serious?"

"Deadly," I deadpanned. "Don't worry, I'll explain everything. If you forget, Athena will help you. That's her by the way." I pointed to the laptop's monitor. "If you have questions then I will answer them. Come." I pointed to my bed, "Sit here."

With a hint of hesitation, Felicity moved to sit on the edge of my bed. I turned my head to look at Nixie. "Would you be a dear and make us some snacks? Thanks." With a court nod, she was gone.

"Now, any questions before we start?" At that she held up a finger.

"Yes actually," she began. "So magic is real? And this wasn't an elaborate plan to get me over to your house?" She looked a little disappointed.

"Magic is very real, Nixie is made of water and Athena, although an Ai, was made using the same formula I would have used for a golem. Magic is all around us, although you can't sense it without training or gifts."

"Magic is a fundamental part of our world. It's a mystical phenomenon created by a combination of mana and will, whether that be natural will or human will." I began to pace as I talked, zoning out the world in my explanation.

"Mana is the building blocks of magic, as atoms are the building blocks of matter. Just like atoms, mana in certain arrangements give life to many different types of energy. I call this 'flavored' mana."

"There are many 'flavors' ranging from the basic elements; Fire, Water, Earth, Air. To more obscure ones like Light, Dark, Death, Life, Fate, and many many more. It would take a literal year to explain them all."

"Now. You may ask. What do we call people who use mana to perform magic? Well, there are many terms. From Magus, Wizard, Witch, Mage, Magician, to even Sorcerer. I prefer the term Magus, and as my apprentice you will use the same title."

"For Magus, there are several ranks. Novice, those who learn the theory of magic. Apprentice, people who just begin their journey of manipulating mana. Then we have Adept. They are usually those very proficient in their utilization of mana, and have a large enough pool of mana to cast the more interesting spells."

"After Adept we finally have Expert and Master. Above all these things are Archmagi, I am one of these such beings. I'll explain all of these more in depth later." Stopping to take a look I find Felicia engrossed in what I was talking about."

"Good, you're listening. You still may not believe me, but I'll show you proof before the day is up. Continuing on. Why is it important to store mana in the body? Well, besides the fact I've yet to learn a way to use large amounts of ambient mana proficiently, storing mana in the body brings a profound change in our bodies."

"We become healthier, and we become pseudo-immortals. So long as we do not stop advancing in our pursuits we will continue to live. The stronger you are, the closer you become to another being enterally."

"After you become an Adept, your aging slows close to a halt and as long as you promote before a hundred years pass, you won't age a day. Now there are exceptions, but generally that is the case."

"Upon becoming an apprentice you undergo the first mana-baptism. Mana saturates your blood and you become able to manipulate the mana within you. Said mana is stored in the heart."

Noticing that Felicia was still paying attention I licked my dry lips and continued. "With each rank your heart slowly changes to become a new organ entirely. It still functions like a heart, but it becomes able to hold an even greater amount of mana. Ah, right on time."

Stopping my rambling, I turned to look at Nixie. "Nixie here is my familiar. She is a creature made of water that I summoned during a special ritual."

Giving Felicia a bright smile and a wave, Nixie places the snacks down in front of us. She had prepared sandwiches and tea for me, and she also brought coke and juice just in case Felicia didn't want tea.

Her prudence proved useful as Felicia grabbed the coke. With a satisfying hiss, she drank the opened coke and started eating the offered sandwitches.

"Familiars are important to those who wish to be great. Case in point," I pointed to Nixie.

"They can perform the tasks we have little time to do. Although servants can do these things as well, familiars are bonded with us and thus they understand our needs better. It is also important to choose a familiar that is associated with a 'flavor' of mana you are going to use a lot. As I am an Alchemist, the mana infused water that makes up Nixie is very important to me. Of course it is ultimately up to you, and maybe in your case I would leave it up to fate. Well, this should be sufficient for an introduction. Now I'll show you some real magic." With a smile I took a sip of my tea and brought up my other hand.

With a flick of my fingers, and some added effects I made a runic circle spin around my finger and summoned forth a gust of wind that blew both Felicia's hair and mind. She looked visibly excited and for added effect, I created another effect.

With a snap of my fingers I turned my teacup to dust along with the tea inside. "Although I've fallen and I'm no longer physically an Archmagus, I assure you, I'm more than qualified to teach you. Every short cut I take to grow strong, I will teach you. No point in having my pupil struggle around in the dark in the name of letting you learn a lesson." Noticing she wanted to ask me a question, I let her speak.

"What happened to you then? If you are an Archmagus, but aren't at the same time." With a deep sigh, I explained. "My assistant was jealous of my possessions and sabotaged my experiment. I lost my strength but retained my mind. Don't worry though, we are worlds away."

". . . Worlds? As in you're from another world?" She asked with a questioning expression.

"Yes. Trust me, you'll have a harder time wrapping your head about much simpler things. But that's what I'm here for, explaining things and helping you. And I know you must be thinking. Why me? Well, the answer is because I see something special in you. It would be a real shame if I let that get tainted. Also, before you get any ideas. I'm 265 years old." With eyes wider than when I had shown her magic, her expression changed from shocked to confused in moments.

"Like I said, pseudo-immortal." And with that, came her seemingly endless questions.
