Chapter 2: A Mother's Resolve

[A/N: Unedited chapter. Sorry for any mistakes, I'll fix them first chance I get]

---

To say Kuroka was 'upset' when she woke up was the understatement of the century.

If the Niibi hadn't already been extracted from her, she probably would have already transformed and destroyed half the village in search of her daughter. Not for a lack of trying mind you.

But she was still pretty weakened from both the extraction and childbirth so she was much easier to subdue than normal. Even then it still took the third Raikage getting involved to make her settle down.

Though that was mostly just due to her directing her anger towards him instead…

"Where the hell is my daughter you bastard!? I'll gut you like a fish nyaaaa!"

(A/N: I think she still needs a moment…)

"NYAAAAAAAAAAAA!"

[One moment later]

"Have you settled down now?" Ay asked with an irritated voice looking at all the damages to the surroundings.

"Where...is...she…?" Kuroka asked while struggling to catch her breath. She was already in a weakened state before her outburst. Had it not been for her sheer determination and instincts guiding her, she might not have even been in a condition to stand, let alone fight. But even under these circumstances she still gave Ay a glare that guaranteed hell should the answer be unfavorable.

Completely unfazed by her glare he locked eyes with her and replied.

"She is with the Ichi clan now." He said simply. He felt no need to hide the truth from the young woman any longer. It was already much too late for her to do anything about it. And judging by how her face instantly paled, she likely knew as much.

"Wha-? A-Are you insane!?" Kuroka shouted in panic.

Although she couldn't give a first-hand account being that she was trained by the Nii clan, she had known the previous Hachibi Jinchuriki, Blue B, rather well. They were very close friends and maybe at one time she had hoped they could be more than that. That said, he had often told her of the horrors and despicableness of the Ichi clan's training methods. According to him, it was just a form of glorified torture. And that was coming from a Jinchuriki of the second strongest tailed beast!

They drove the vessel as close to despair as possible in order to force them to draw from the beast's chakra easier.

Ay, of course, knew of their training methods, though not to the full extent, he could do nothing about it. One of the agreements between the clans was a hands-off approach on how to train their representatives. Even as the Raikage, he had minimum say in the matter.

"The Ichi, Nii, and San clans intend to use this opportunity to see which of the clans had the most efficient training methods for the Jinchuriki," Ay said without batting an eye to her previous insult.

Hearing this, Kuroka had a shocked expression before lowering her head as her whole body began to shake uncontrollably.

"What is this? Are our lives some kind of game to you?" She whispered out so quietly that Ay might have missed it had it not been for his trained senses. The atmosphere slowly began to turn heavier as her golden slitted eyes bore into Ay.

Ay frowned upon hearing her question. He also had misgivings about the entire thing but his hands were tied in many places. He might be able to brute force his way through his enemies but he would never willingly turn his spear against his own village no matter what. He had already agreed with the initial proposal and he would never back down once he decided on something.

So despite his own thoughts on the matter, he gave the only answer he felt he needed to justify his actions to not only the young woman but to himself as well.

"Everything is for the sake of the village." He said unfazed by the thick killing intent that rained down on him upon the completion of his words.

"Move aside," Kuroka said with an eerily calm but ice-cold voice. Even her signature verbal tick was missing.

"I won't" Ay stood his ground but immediately put his guard up. Although her outburst earlier was troublesome, he knew she was not truly angry at that time, or else there would have been numerous casualties before he was called to subdue her. This young woman, no, this kunoichi was not one that should be angered casually. Even in her weakened state, he knew not to look down on her.

But he still would not budge.

"I am taking my girls away from this hellhole. Move aside. Last warning." She said as the nails on her fingers grew long and extremely sharp. Cat ears suddenly sprouted from her head and a single tail that split in two poked it way out of her kimono. The pressure Ay felt increased drastically.

"Hmph! Come, Bakeneko! (lit. Monster Cat)" He said as his body crackled with electricity. He activated his signature lightning chakra mode at full capacity.

"Nyaaa!" in an insane burst of speed, Kuroka charged and met Ay head-on.

----

[A few hours later]

Ay stood proudly in a crater at the bottom of one of Kumokagure's many mountains. The surroundings were all but rubble at this point and the smell of burnt ozone still lingered in the air.

His breathing was barely labored but it was evident that he had to put some effort into his last confrontation. Although nothing serious, there were even various scratch marks decorating his body with the thinnest line of blood being shown. They could barely be called surface level but the fact that the so-called impenetrable shield was broken again left him feeling complicated as he gazed at the still corpse in the center of the crater.

The young kunoichi had put up quite the fight but she was hardly in a condition to do so from the very beginning. It was impossible for her to win from the start, something both of them knew. Yet she pushed on well past her limits, all for the sake of her children.

'It's a shame that determination can only get a person so far.' Ay internally sighed at the waste of such a valuable asset. At first, he only intended to incapacitate the kunoichi but she quickly showed him that capture was never an option. She would either succeed or die trying.

"Hmm?" Just as he was about to turn away he felt a slight flicker of chakra and once more observed the corpse with renewed interest.

"It's said cats have nine lives, huh? I see." He said before giving a small chuckle and making his way back to the village to report the death of the young kunoichi.

Although he could probably give chase with her condition, he chose not to. Perhaps it was because he wanted to atone for all the pain he's brought her. Perhaps it was in acknowledgment for being one of the few who actually injured him. Perhaps it was because he looked forward to another fight. Only he knew the true answer.

'Looks like I'll need to increase A and B's training in the future.' The third Raikage thought idly to himself.

----

"Haa Haa…" Bleeding and covered in wounds, Kuroka clumsily tried to get herself as far away from the village and that monster as possible.

"...Damn..it" Tears caked her eyes as she continued to flee for her life in order to fight another day.

"Damn it" She thought about her two newborn baby girls that were taken away from her.

"Damn it" She thought about her best friend and how he too was taken away from her.

"Damn it!" She thought about how one of her main sources of strength was taken away from her

"DAMN IT!!" She thought about how powerless she felt in front of the man who took so much away from her all for the sake of his 'precious village'.

"I'm sorry…" She continued to cry as she fled the village, leaving behind all she cared about. Kuroka swore deep in her heart she would do whatever she had to to be with her daughters again.

She wiped her tears and a fierce determination shone in her golden eyes. She needed strength and she knew exactly what her first stop would be.

'Senjutsu...That old hag better be telling the truth, nya. Wait for me, I promise I'll come save you both one day!' Kuroka promised and kept on running off sheer determination alone. Although she definitely wanted revenge, her daughters would always take priority in her mind. She was willing to give up anything, even revenge to see them again.

With her resolve set, Kuroka disappeared with only the light of the moon to guide her.
