Chapter 59: A very normal dream

"Wow, what the hell?" Snapping awake, I found himself situated up a tree, as my eyes conditioned to the brightness around me.

That sure was a weird dream.

At least, I hope it was a dream, however, deep inside me I knew that that was most certainly not just a mere dream, but more so an inheritance. A blood inheritance.

All races have a bloodline, and some races can share experiences and memories through said bloodline and in some cases even power through this bloodline inheritance which is passed down from generation to generation.

The reptilian races are more known for their blood inheritances due to their ancestors, the dragons being much more active when compared to the other ancient caretaker races. Resulting in them having a closer relation to an ancient race, and thus having more potent bloodline inheritance.

Nonetheless, Jeffrey had just awoken the memories of his bloodline.

Discovering the truth of the world is rather startling. But there is one key point that I don't quite agree with in this batch of bloodline memories. It was a vow to never lay a hand on the races of this world, after all, I had sure as hell killed some of these races.

If that was the case then I would be a heretic among heretics! Plus, it was these races who started it, so why couldn't I retaliate?

This was ridiculous, and the fact that I was a Heretic? Despite the complaints I had in my mind, I had to accept that it was rather believable, considering all the random crap that just happened the previous day.

Looking up, the sun was at its peak as it beat down on my face. Looks like I slept till noon.

"Kaw!"

Startled by the sudden noise, I immediately located the source of the sound, it came from a white bird that seemed to shine.

Mmhm, looks real tasty.

Salivating at the exotic meal before him, I had already delved into the realm of fantasy as he imagined the taste of this bird. But wait!

This bird looks oddly familiar.

"K-kaw?"

Tsk, looks like I know this bird.

I wasn't the only one to have a long nap. Lily too, seemed to be under the awakening of a blood inheritance, most likely as a direct influence from my presence. During her nap, not only did Lily understand the truths of the world, but she also unlocked a component of her bloodline. That being her new appearance. Before, probably due to my influence, when she first hatched, she took a form unlike that of her Night Crow parents, being white feathered. This is closer to the Fallen race of Krows, however, that was only in appearance, now, however, she had the body of a Krow as well. Lily is a Krow now.

Searching through my blood memories, Krows were a caretaker race subservient to the Heretics, however, were eliminated when the ritual was conducted. In other words, Lily was the last member of her race. How special.

This also brought to mind something else. Where did I come from? The blood memories had shared with me the past of my race as well as the actions of his ancestors after the war, but after a certain point, it suddenly cut. I most likely wasn't capable of viewing such critical information in my current state.

Anyway, what to do now? Well, it would have to get stronger right? After seeing the power of my supposed ancestors, I mean that's at least something to strive for.

Connecting this with the stories my father had once told me, a journey was what I needed. Because only with experience could one grow stronger. Staying within the safe boundaries of one's comfort zone can only go so far, it's necessary to push oneself.

Which is how I found himself wandering throughout a dense woodland.

"Kakaw!"

"Shut up,"

As I wandered through the vast woodlands, a certain Krow refused to bask in the quiet of the woodlands. Lily would usually just sit on my shoulder or hide in my cloak. Though now Lily circled me before breaking away from his current direction.

What an annoying bird. Though, it's not like I was going anywhere specific.

Following Lily, I slowly trekked into some small plains just outside of the woodlands. After leaving, I was immediately reunited with Lily, who puffed her chest out as she kawed proudly. Looking from this vantage point, I could see a village situated in a low area next to a river. The awareness and intelligence this bird displayed was frightening. But then again, having learned from blood memories that this bird was actually a fallen race made this less concerning.

"Hmm, could there be a festival?" Looking down at the village, I could see huge puffs of smoke billowing out of the village, not to mention a high chorus of screams and shouts. Déjà vu much? Nah, surely not.

Surely yes. Shoving down his previous thoughts, I had to think of how disabled I had to be to not catch the drift of the situation despite having previous experience, and all the clues shoved in front of him. That blood inheritance really served as a wake up call.

Arriving very late at the crime scene as all good law enforcers do, I was not surprised to find it razed to the ground. There were burnt, charred corpses littered about, and stray limbs slapped across the rubble. Very déjà vu.

Though this time, not everyone was dead. Some horsemen loitered around this village as if patrolling the area. They wore grey tunics embroidered with a coat of arms of some sort. However, it can easily be seen that the Moonshine Kingdom insignia was taken as the base, using that logic, these horsemen must be under the employ of a noble in the Moonshine Kingdom. Considering that this village was just razed, it must mean that they were here to investigate, similar to what happened at my old village.

"Hey! There's a survivor!"

Looks like they found a survivor.

"It's a little girl,"

Oh, she must be quite tough to survive this ordeal.

As she pushed the collapsed remains of what seemed to be an apothecary off of her, the horsemen congregated as they spoke in hushed tones. They were discussing something as they stared at the girl with pity painted on their faces.

"I'm sorry, I'm really sorry about this," With a dark expression, one of the horsemen was elected to 'speak' to the girl, though he uttered quite a weird phrase. There was no need to be sorry that they couldn't be in time to save the village or something, that's simply asking the impossible. Though, it wasn't as though I didn't see his mentality, just that I thought that kind of thinking was irrational.

Riding up to the girl, with a cavalry spear in hand. He pulled back the spear, before apologising once more, he thrust the spear right at the girl's heart.

"I don't think that's how you help someone…

"No, wait, that isn't how you help someone!"

Having a belated realisation, I stammered to stop the horseman, despite knowing my efforts will be in vain.
