Chapter 13: 13. New magic.
It didn't take me long to get settled in, after all I didn't own much just a single bag of shirts and pants, the rest was in my spatial ring which I took out to hang up. Along with my red plate armor and greaves and the other equipment I had from Dart. There was even a couple of normal swords. I also had a couple of small pieces of equipment for Vincent, like a few gun holsters, some greaves, a clawed gauntlet, a red headband. The guns I kept inside because I had no place to put them and no way to work on them right now.
The fusion sword from cloud I took out, it was a set of 6 blades which could connect together to make an almost identical buster sword which I snapped into place before leaning against my original.
Hel just watched happily from the side in a cozy chair not asking any questions. She was just happy to have a new familia member.
"Let's see then, 3 materia slots huh?" I pull out a couple of materia and examine them before putting them back. "Let's go with Heal." I put a green orb into my arm which glows slightly.
Heal isn't like cure, Heal is for status effects. "Poisona, which heals poison, Esuna, cures most other status effects, and Resist, which is kind of like regen but it helps the person resist status effects such as poisons."
"Then we can do Space. Another green materia, it has Blink which teleports the person a small distance away, Warp, which teleports yourself or your enemy a farther distance, and finally Teleport, where you can teleport yourself, your ally or your enemy to any previously visited location." I set the second stone into my arm and it glows.
"And lastly let's do Fire, same effects as lightning but fire related. Fire, Fira, Firaga, Firaja. I noticed when I absorbed the materia I gained a bit of control over the basic element I absorbed, having fire would be incredibly handy for a multitude of things, plus different enemies have different weaknesses." I click the third materia into my arm and it glows slightly.
Also the drain from the materia vanished once I absorbed it. So that was incredibly helpful. Anyway the first two should be self explanatory, the ability to heal status effects as I doubt I'm immune to everything, and the ability to teleport. Both useful skills.
As for the fire, well having a magical fire in this world should be helpful, they have alchemy and blacksmithing. So I can already see uses for it if I can control fire. Plus maybe it will be less fucking loud than lightning.
"Did you get everything sorted?" Hel asks.
"Yep, everything is good now." I tell her before sitting down on the bed.
"So what are you going to do now?"
"Hmm, probably go inform my dungeon guide about my successful recruitment into your familia, then maybe head into the dungeon and gather up some monster cores, it's still early after all. Unless you wish to do something?" I ask my new goddess.
"No, that's fine. Would you like me to update your status when you get back?" She asks.
"No, if I don't update it I can earn excellia faster, if I run into any troubles though I'll make sure to update my status." I figure it's kind of like fighting boss monsters and getting bonus exp for being low level.
I grab the buster sword and put it into my spatial ring, for now I want to use Darts sword, it's just a normal steel broadsword so. I want to give that a try. I grab one of the backpacks and put it on after strapping the sword to my belt. Then I snatch my cloak up and swing it onto my shoulders, it latches on and quickly hides my body and backpack.
"That is a beautiful cloak. It's pretty much alive!" Hel says with sparkly eyes.
I focus on the cloak for a second and it changes to a steely blue color which is honestly pretty cool. "I didn't know it could do that." I admit. A couple more tests and it turns into a jacket like overcoat, a hoodie, a backpack, a pouch. It can pretty much shape shift into whatever kind of clothing I need and change color. I could see how that could be useful. Anyway I go back to the default cloak mode and just keep the color changed.
"Well I'll be back in a little bit." I tell my new goddess with a smile.
"Okay, stay safe." She says with a serious look while thinking. 'I've already marked your soul so if you die I'll have to drag you back from the underworld to keep me company forever.'
"I will don't worry." I tell her before leaving and heading for the guild to inform Rose of my success.

"Congratulations, now I don't have to worry as much about you getting yourself killed and you can level up." Rose says with her usual snarkiness. "So how was Hel?"
"She is pretty nice actually, much better than what I was expecting. I don't seem to feel the revulsion most do apparently. She was quite thrilled to have her first familia member." I tell the woman. "Anyway just thought I would let you know before I headed into the dungeon."
"Okay, just be careful. Gaurds are still looking into that whole explosion thing." She says with a frown.
I nod before heading off to do some hunting.
Same routine as before, once I hit the dungeon. "Haste!" my mana flares up and I'm off with a burst of speed to hunt down goblins. Sadly there don't seem to be more than a couple on this floor and I'm stopped by the guards and asked some question a few times which is annoying. So I decide to head to the second floor since there should be more monster spawns there.
